Looks like HD will soon be getting a new CEO. Only time will tell what changes are in store and the reasons for the new blood. http://www.motorcycledaily.com/16december08_retire ment.htm |

40 years at the Motor Company, last three at the helm, I am sure Harley has a well thought out succession plan. ~jammer |

If they have someone already lined up for the job, why would the board form a search committee and ask for resumes? Sounds unplanned to me. CEOs don't typically retire at 57. |

nothing at Harley ever happens without a plan. they are one of the most successful companies in the history of this planet, well into their second century of doing business, and that's not by not having a plan. just sayin. FB |

>>>>they are one of the most successful companies in the history of this planet That's an accurate statement. Both Buell and Harley-Davidson have DETAILED long-term plans. Harley-Davidson did not become one of the most successful businesses in America and Buell did not become the ONLY "garage start-up" still standing by trial and error and hoping for the best. Keen listening Buellers have had a glimpse of the Buell plan. |

Keith E. Wandell, previously from Johnson Controls: New Harley czar is an outsider New blood or fresh meat? Time will tell. And don't let Cityxslicker see the bit about dirtbikes... 1313 |

Weird- Johnson Controls to Harley. Johnson has a weirdly diverse product line; the article mentions their automotive seat division. I know they made seats for Chrysler at one time. I've mainly dealt with Johnson's Direct Digital Control (DDC) HVAC control systems. The controls work well, but they're known for being VERY proprietary (incompatible with other manufacturer's products). I'll trust your opinion of his value to HD/Buell Court. |

Johnson Controls is a very well run company and consistenly listed as one of the best places to work in the US. They are very well respected here in Milwaukee. They make auto interiors as well as batteries. They are big in the hybred market. Good company, I am excited abotu the guy. |

I think the Keith Wandell news is cool but I think the bigger news is that Matthew S. Levatich becomes President and Chief Operating Officer of Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Matt is a Buell guy! |

>>>but I think the bigger news is that Matthew S. Levatich becomes President and Chief Operating Officer of Harley-Davidson Motor Company. You have no idea (actually YOU do) how accurate a statement that is! I have huge respect for Matt and my experience, during the time I worked at Buell, proved to me that he is a super results sort of a person. Both are great moves and there are a couple more on the way . . . I'd wager. |

Buell Motorcycle Company’s Planned Operational Consolidation As a part of company operational excellence efforts to reduce cost and improve efficiencies, today Buell Motorcycle Company made public its intention to consolidate operations from five leased facilities into one leased facility in East Troy, Wis. By moving our operations into one facility, we will spend less and eliminate waste which results in greater value to our customers. We anticipate Buell will move into the new leased facility in the first half of 2010. The new location will be just south of Buell’s current location, in the East Troy business park. Key to this consolidation plan is to sustain our highly valued, dedicated Buell workforce. The East Troy area has been home to Buell for 25 years and we have a dedicated group of long time employees who live in the East Troy area. Moving outside of the immediate East Troy area was not an option as that would severely impact our existing work force. Sincerely, Jon Flickinger President and Chief Operating Officer, Buell Motorcycle Company |

I am thrilled for the people of Buell. Few times in my life have I ever seen so many ordinary American men and women come together to form such an extraordinary collaboration. This ranks right up there with the "Road X to Jefferson Street" move. Congratulations to all the people at Buell. Court P.S. - and a big hello to the banker who denied Erik the $3,000 operating loan in 1990 because it was "too risky". |

five leased facilities Wow, I did not realize Buell had 5 leased facilities. I knew the motors were made at the HD plant but was unaware that other things were going on at other locations. Good stuff. |

Bad news a great guy Ron "hutch" Hutchinson is leaving after 30 years of service. He will be retiring shortly. I would like to send him best wishes. |
