I've asked for this thread...just bought an XBRR and would like other owners, mechanics, and riders to comment about the BIKE ITSELF, not the Buell Racing Program (or any perceived lack thereof!), religion, politics, Ducati, the Big Four, etc. It should be about tuning, tweaking, riding, track day riding, racing, and owning an XBRR!

Our riders seem to enjoy riding the bike quite a bit. Their only complaints were the initial steering lock setting and the stock clutch.

The initial steering lock is too close b/c you will find yourself sliding the bike into corners without a slipper.

We have since adjusted the steering lock and gotten a slipper clutch.

JBar, give me a call (I emailed you) and we can talk about some other stuff you should know before ever running the bike.

Josh

OK, what day/time/event are the Buells going to be raced in Daytona? It was fun watching them last year -before they went kaput. Better luck this year!

Buell recommends rocket brand fuel 114

VP tells me that most of the riders they have using their fuel use MRX-01

Red line ATF is the oil to use in the transmission especially with the slipper
and Motul oil also recommended by Buell.

Brett,

I finally broke down and bought a barrel of 114 Rockettbrand Fuel. It arrived last week and I'm trying it out tomorrow at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

I tried VP-110 and it didn't work at all. I also recieved and loaded the new map for 114; we'll see how it works tomorrow. Also, Henry Duga sent to me a map for Sunoco GT 100 unleaded, which was done for Warr's in Europe (no leaded fuel allowed)...

Thanks for your help; do you think that Syn 3 won't work for the STM slipper clutch?

We ran our XBRR at Button Willow and did ok, 10th in Open Twins and 11th in Formula 40.
Considering that we started 33rd on the 9th? row, not bad.
Pete was held up by two novices dicing with each other during the first race and almost high sided trying to pass them. He decided to play it a safer after that experience.

We are considering a a different spring rate on the rear shock as our rider is a bit..ahem...hefty.
As of now the bike isn't completely dialed in.

Had a hell of a time finding Rockett Brand in California, ended up running VP for our first race.
We installed the STM clutch with the plates and springs recommended by the Buell racing guys but don't know the difference because we never ran the RR with the stock clutch. Our rider Pete has a lot of experience racing Sportsters so he was ready for anything but had no real handling or wheel hop problems.
We put on a new starter motor and a long cable lead.
The tach was not working and mis-wired out of the crate from Buell but it was easily fixed.
I don't know anything about the new lifter anti-rotation devices. Are these in the '07 models already?
Our only problem was a loose charging system wire during practice which almost put us out of the main race(long story).
Pete came in after the race ecstatic to have raced the XBRR and cant wait to get to Infineon (Sears) on the 29th.
Any tech tips out there?

PS We are having a "Race Bike Night" at our dealership on Thursday, the 26th of April. BBQ, Bands, Bikes (XBRR,Mert's street tracker v-rod destroyer and more), Mert Lawwill, hope to see all you Bay Area sport bike riders at GGHD in Corte Madera, Marin County! Should be good fun!

Jbar,

The unleaded cal is specific for Sunoco 260 GT Plus, not any of the other flavors of Sunoco 260.

A limited HP cal for Sunoco 260 GTX is being refined which is the Moto ST spec fuel.

H-D Formula + for stock clutch plates, and Redline D4 ATF for the Alto plates.

Syn 3 keeps the 150 horses lubed.

Jbar,

The lifter anti-rotation devices are specific to XBRRs. The new steel parts keep the valve gear together to 9000 rpm; the older nylon ones in this application would ocassionally break, with expensive results.

Dear Anonymous,

Thanks for the info, particularly on the lifter rotators and the fluids.

The XBRR is still not yet sorted out...the new Map has been loaded, 114 fuel used and idle adjusted to 1800 to 2000 RPM. The bike idles great, but starts hard when cold and has power hesitation beginning at 3,000 to 4000 RPM that continues to rev limiter (under load and without load). Bike powers up the gears on the straight, but with the hesitation. Corners are worse.

LV H-D will be putting it on the dyno and work with Buell racing to sort it out.

Any ideas?

Dear Maxisimo,

Congrats on your Buttonwillow run...sounds great!

You might or might not have the new rotators; depends upon the serial #/build date. I'd check with the factory. It's a factory-paid mod if not, per the dealer.

RockettBrand fuel is available only from the refinery in Indiana...about $600 per barrel including shipping...it will produce the most horsepower, however...

Did you use C-12 from VP? How did it run?
