The wind has blown the chalk away.

Jim; Rocket's Badweb account was suspended 2 days ago for consistent boorish (I think that's what the Brits call it) behaviour. He left us a "pleasant goodbye" and it was also removed. He does have email.

p.s. contrary to Fishheads post, he was not offered the opportunity to contact a custodian and work it out. That is the normal procedure and has been the case numerous times in the past with Rocket. It has not been offered this time.

the press release RE HD's change of leadership doesn't seem like a diatribe to me -- sheesh, if I was Bleustein, I'd retire too (I'm thinkin he won't need us to sell donought to support him, he's done a great deal for the company, and I'm sure has been rewarded for that successful effort)

Buell's value remains the same regardless of who's at the helm -- I'd be very worried is Bleustein was a biker or a real techie, with the possibility of his hangin on to Buell just because, but that is clearly not the case -- I expect the new guy to continue on, hanging on to those things that produce value, and shedding those things that don't

The diatribe comment followed Rocket's removed post. Not the H-D piece.

I took it Meester Rocket felt miffed that a "scantily clad tart's bum protruding from a bike saddle" Avatar was disallowed. And he insulted Buells (ho hum, whot's new?). And used the "eff" word toward the administrator. One should not be surprised the message was pulled.

Nope, I just imagelinked to the photo on their site from the article.

Sad that the photo shop their photogs used to sell their used film gear to apparently closed up, was an interesting place to shop.

Karen Sherlock is credited with this imagelinked pic from the current edit of the article:

Merry Christmas to BadWeb, and all its participants from Woz... We had a great American Sport BikeN anniversary party on December 6th, celebrating six years at American Sport BikeN and we're in our 7th year now. For info, I've been asked to co-host a call-in radio talk show about motorcycles and it will be on KNBR 1050 in the San Francisco Bay Area starting some time in February. It will be "podcast" (hopefully) and online via streaming audio once we're going.

Morris and James Carey of the Carey Brothers "On The House" syndication are motorcycle enthusiasts and had the idea, came to American Sport Bike Night and asked me if I would co-host the program. I went and asked Leigh Taylor (Scuseme) is she wanted to do the Race Report and she said yes, but she's been signed on as a full co-host for the program. This is going to be fun.

You can send ideas, topics, and information to RiderRadio@Gmail.com where I've set up a program account. We'll have a toll-free number (we have it already, but I've been told that I can't give it out until we're "on the air"; ).

More to follow, and if you know of a motorcycle radio program in the United States, let me know as I'm in the middle of plenty of research.

Happy Holidays to all,

International Motorcycle Speed Trials by Bub was great!

Woz...

ION Engine Plant In Doubt Without New Backer
By Eric Johnston, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES, Dow Jones

MELBOURNE -(Dow Jones)- The future of ION Ltd.'s (ION) engine block plant should be known by the end of the month, with administrators for the stricken Australian company Monday threatening to shelve the project unless a new investor is found.

Adding to doubts over the future of the unfinished plant, which is meant to be a key supplier to the local unit of General Motors Corp. (GM), ION administrator Colin Nicol told creditors the plant won't be profitable based on current projections.

Cost overruns at the plant near Melbourne, combined with a cash-flow squeeze, prompted ION to place itself in voluntary administration early last week after its local and international bank consortium withdrew a A$440 million funding package. ION shares are now suspended, with the company in the hands of creditors as the administrator attempts to prevent bankruptcy, probably through the sale of assets that include operations in the United States and New Zealand.

ION had been preparing to produce an alloy engine block, a key part in the A$ 400 million high-tech six cylinder engine that GM's Holden wants to ramp-up from 2006.

Designed to meet Holden's annual demand for 200,000 engine blocks, the plant had been expected to cost A$90 million. But over the past year ION's management lifted planned capacity to 350,000 units, while total capital expenditure estimates have blown out to as much as A$160 million.

"Unfortunately it appears that it won't make sufficient money at 200,000 units to repay the debt that's required," Nicol said.

While Nicol is planning to either sell or recapitalize ION's other businesses, he said a decision over the future of the engine block plant will be known by the end of the month.

The plant is going to need support from customers, a new investor and probably the Victorian state government for it to be completed, he said. The Australian government has already injected around A$17 million of funding assistance into the project.

Talks are underway with Holden to see how crucial the plant is to the company's global V6 engine program, he said.

Holden began limited production of its new engine in November last year, with components sourced from Mexico. The carmaker is hoping to boost production to 240,000 engines a year by 2006 to be exported to GM operations around the world.

A spokesman for Holden declined to comment.

Banks Might Not Get Full Return

Addressing around 80 creditors at a meeting in Melbourne, Nicol said ION's operating performance, while profitable, has been deteriorating for more than two years.

Earnings forecasts were cut three times in the past year with the company's current fiscal year earnings slashed from A$155 million to A$57 million.

The company's expansion initiatives and poor project management had been burning cash at a rapid rate, with an additional A$170 million in funds needed by June next year to keep operations afloat.

Nicol is confident ION's businesses could be sold, particularly with restructuring of some assets.

ION's Australian manufacturing operations are based at one plant in New South Wales state and two in South Australia.

Between them, the plants have almost 1,700 employees and produce alloy wheels, transmission systems, suspension components and aluminum cylinder heads.

ION also has a major plant in Auckland, New Zealand, and is building a new plant in Kentucky in the U.S. The company is a key supplier of cast-alloy wheels to U.S. motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson Inc. (HDI).

With an asset book value of around A$720 million, Nicol said ION will be able to cover employee entitlements. Other creditors, including banks which are owed A$330 million, will get a meaningful return on their funds.

"Whether they get all their money back I think is less likely, but the return is still expected to be meaningful," Nicol said.

At A$135 million, National Australia Bank Ltd. (NAB) has the biggest exposure while Westpac Banking Corp. (WBK) is owed around A$120 million, people familiar with the situation have told Dow Jones Newswires. The balance is split between Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA.AU), BNP Paribas (13110.FR) and Japan's Mizuho.

Separately unions have called for corporate watchdog the Australian Securities and Investments Commission to investigate ION's management, given sharp revisions that were made to earnings forecasts.

"Questions over the accuracy and completeness of information provided to financiers and shareholders, there is no doubt an ASIC investigation is justified," said Australian Workers' Union National Secretary Bill Shorten.
