Jim, From what I have heard, sales are up overall here and in Europe. I think they are selling more bikes in Europe than here right now. In some markets they must be selling like hotcakes cause others are not pulling their weight as you mentioned. | ||

Jim_sb (and others) regarding Buell dealers going away... There was a post here indicating that the Buell plant is approaching capacity for making the new bikes. And I read an article in Cycle world, explaining why the price dropped on the XB9's, they indicated it was a result of up front costs (tooling, design, other investment) being recooped ahead of the scheduled plan. So a few gems of dealers are going out because of cumulative damage... it was just too late. I feel bad about this, but it does not suprise me. But I think the majority of the dealers are going away because Buell does not need the grief, and Harley is no longer bullying them to carry the bikes. It's a good thing (IMHO). I had a "local" Buell dealer that was bullied into the brand by HD. After a year+ of pain and frustration, I stopped going to them and drove the hour+ to a dealer that takes the brand seriously (F&S Buell in Dayton). I would have been better off had I just started at F&S in the first place. | ||

Caveman, I saw the Buell truck in St. Paul a couple of months ago. I ended up getting to chat with the drivers wife. You know how some people are proud of their bikes? Well she was proud of her truck in the same way. She told me all about it. If you get some time away from the hooters girls see if you can find her. You will enjoy meeting her. Jim | ||

I am in Lebanon, not that far. The dealer I like is F&S Buell, in Dayton, not far from the I-75 and I-70 Exchange. I think thats only about an hour from Columbus, but I could be mistaken. They are not perfect, but they are very good, and make things right if they screw up. The cruiser type workers there respect Buell even if they wouldn't ride one (not unlike my feelings towards the Harleys), and the Buell guys there totally "get it" in a "been there, done that, wrecked it and have the stitches to proove it" kind of way.  | ||

Most of the folks here in columbus don't seem to give a damn, every once in a while meet a tech that has that wild look in his eye but for the most part all the harley buell shops cater to 30 somethings(which I am), with too much money in thier pocket(mine are empty), and a bike that hasn't left the garage except to show it off to the neighbors. | ||

I need a little advice. My bike (and I) were hit by a driver a couple of months ago. I am healing, but I was told by the insurance company that they want to total the bike because of the cost to repair. I really don't want to lose the bike. Not only are S3's few and far between up here, over the past year I have added a number of mods (thanks, Al) which are still on the bike (race ecm, supertrapp canister, shift linkage, etc.). However, I was told that if I chose to take the money and repair the bike myself, the bike would always be identified as a salvaged bike. So the question is, so what? Is it just the value is reduced? Is insurance harder to get? Does anyone have any insight on this they can share with me? | ||

A salvage title would reduce the bikes value on the resale market, I know of no other consequence. Considering the low prices that Buells are bringing, it's not much of a consideration. If you are comfortable that the repairs can be made effectively, go for it. Be sure that the frame has not been tweaked. | ||

Injured in Seattle, It might be to your benefit to discuss this with an attorney. A good friend was launched onto the K-Rail in the center median of a freeway down here in SoCal by a guy in a pickup truck. He had one heckuva time with the truck owner's insurance company and with his own insurance company. To make matters worse he had done extensive mods to his bike that the insurance company didn't seem to feel had value. After many run-arounds he finally spoke with an attorney and things turned in his favor not long thereafter. I am not a fan of litigation, I generally despise it. But there are times when an injured party simply cannot get fair compensation for their property without the help of a professional. If you feel you're getting a fair deal then disregard the above. As for salvage title, it will permanently mar your market value for the bike. IMHO I would consider the pros and cons carefully. Unseen or hidden damage can greatly impact the outcome. Good luck. If you can show the DMV that you have repaired the vehicle (take it to a vehicle inspection station, there's one on Hwy99 near SeaTac) they will clear the salvage note off the title. I have done this personally. You must bring receipts showing the parts replaced. | ||

Thanks! The value the driver's insurance company has provided is fair. The question right now is whether or not I keep the bike or take the money and buy another bike. Certainly enough to buy one of the S3T's on sale here. I will look into the criteria for WA State DMV removal of salvage note today. The local Buell/HD dealership has the assessment of the bike repairs which I still need to closely review. | ||

Seattle, Ask if you can retrieve the added parts off the bike? Sometimes you can do that as part of a settlement. | ||

I was cruising around this site and saw a couple of posts about getting a front shock mount which effectively raised the rear of the bike and in turn brought the rake in. I was wondering if you guys or gals knew where to get one. This is a mod I had been thinking about doing myself for a while now and thought it might be better if I went through someone who had done it before, any help is appreciated. CCryder you got some great riding areas to look forward to as I have been camping down in the central eastern KY area and they looked like fun. haven't gotten to take the bike down yet sometime maybe, I live in Columbus, OH | ||

Seattle, As a matter of fact I totaled an S3 myself. I considered trying to rebuild it because "I had a killer set of tools", but my dealer was good enough to point out that the frames had a "memory". Mine looked fine, but underneath the tubes downward from the forks there was an indentation where the frame had flexed and bounced back. I also had scratched just about every part on the bike, so there wasn't really anything worth salvaging. Look your over closely before you decide. MikeJ's idea might be well worth pursuing. | ||

Seattle, if the buy back is cheap, remember, you could always part it out. I bought back my M2 after the Ins co. totaled it. Frame was not damaged, same with front forks. Less than $350 for me to repair. No problem with Insurance company to insure and for the same value they already paid me for. Sure, if I sold it, I would expect less than a bike without a re-title. So what? I'm already way ahead. | ||

One of the photos I took this year (a top fuel Buell drag bike) at the All Harley Drags in Woodburn, Oregon made the front cover of the NW edition of Quick Throttle Magazine. http://www.quickthrottlemag.com/directory_nw.htm When I took the pic, never even gave it second thought of it making it into a magazine let alone the front cover of a magazine. I want to say thanks to Jerry (Ferris Buller) for all of his support and for talking me into my first Buell way back when. If it wasn't for Jerry, that photo would not be there today. I also want to say thanks to Erik for building a motorcycle that I have come to love. The machine has touched me in ways that I can never express in words. well, day 2 of Bikes, Blues & BBQ called for a stop by the Buell Demo truck with a few Hooters Girls. Talked with the crew for a while, but Hooters Girls can be an inpatient lot when there are more ppl to see and pix to pose for. Especially when their mgr is just "talking Buell!" Court, Gary and Lois say "HI" to you and Vickie and after visiting with them that we both had spent some time in Kansas, Gary quipped, "Court's become too citified, and you can tell him I said that!" Ha, Great ppl! I may just have to stop by tomorrow, sans entourage, and ride one of those things!  | ||
