: ) I pick it up today or tomorrow, as soon as they can do the race ECM tps reset.

Packed up all the extra cyclone parts last night. I have a LOT of parts off that bike!

The M2 was a great bike, I still love it, and it helped make me the man I am today. But when I put it side by side with a CityX *for the types of riding I do* there is just no comparison.

The M2 is running great now, but I am reasonably sure that if I try and put another full season on it, I would likely spend just as much money as I would making payments on the 9sx.

It's at 24k miles, which means belt and isolator replacements are a sure thing, and something like a dropped valve, base gasket leak, starter failure, etc. is highly probable. If it was an S1, I would probably bite the bullet, wait for it to break, then put the money into it it needs.

I don't want to dis the tube framers, even with all the grief the M2 has given me (and it was a lot, believe me) I would not trade my total ownership experience with the bike for anything. It's still the best bike ever made : )

But I have three young kids, and a lot of work at my day job, and some very cool "Church" stuff happening. My spare time margin is razor thin. When the kids grow up and are off to school, I can spend wonderfull relaxed evenings putzing around in the garage, hopefully rebuilding a vintage M2 or S1. But right now, I need to be able to ride my motorcycle, park it when I am done, and go spend time with my family.

We need a T-Shirt.... "I survived the Tube Framers" in big print, with "...and it made me a man" in fine print below it.

I will, of course, bore everyone with tedious posts about the new bike as soon as I get it. : ) This will be my third bike, first new out of the box, and it will be a treat.

nuthin like that new bike smell, reep -- congrats, and enjoy the new scoot -- your posts have never been tedious, so please keep us up to speed on the bike, and how it's suiting you

the biggest loss to the rest of us tubers will be the lack of your good posts on "how to" stuff that some of us havn't had to do, yet ;-}

{still happily mired in the Tuber experience)

Reep...That is great news. I know you will enjoy the CityX tremendously.

Always wanted to tease you about the M2 and what appeared to be your continual state of surgical readiness. Yet couldn't as I gleaned a lot of useful information from you. Still had to wonder how much of that was actually needed vs the inquisitive Engineer in you.

May the CityX permit you more quality time at home and on the road!!!

I must have got a lemon, my X1 still works!

Last year I managed to wring a bit more power out of my bike (and have done more tinkering since), but changed the gearing to suit the more open road riding I was doin' then. I just changed the gearing back to near stock (lots of stoplights here), and man, what a difference! She power wheelies easily starting from just off idle up to midrange in first gear. I'm excited...it's too much fun. It comes up so fast, though...my poor forks. I've been bringin' her down kinda harshly.

Bill, knowing the love of your Cyclone I'm quite taken on your decision. Hope your "relationship" is as good with the new ride.

Jim...congrats on your Bonneville effort. Sounds like an interesting time.

Hey All from Phoenix.

I haven't ever seen so many Buells as down here, it does a Bueller's heart good. I had one on an XB9 pull up next to me the other day and said that he just got back from Bonneville and that he was a Badwebber. I didn't quite catch his name, hello again anyway.

I took a run up to Tortilla Flats yesterday and ran my tires almost to the edge. I'd bicycled up there several times by never on a motorcycle. Tomorrow we head back and will go up through Precott and Sedona.

Got it, its fantastic.

The first and most significant thing I noticed was the seating position. If you have not ridden one of these things, its a lot taller then the normal 9s. It feels taller then it is long, in a good way. At 6'2", it is a very comfortable fit for me, every bit as good as the cyclone. I can look over the top of sport utes in front of me, which is cool.

Going from the Cyclone (normal forks, normal rotor) to the ZTL inverted forks was also *very* noticible. Stopping and turning over crappy roads felt planted like I have never experienced.

The Scorpien tires seem very nice. Not as resistant to turning as the D208's, hope they wear a little longer as well.

The CityX looks really cool! I need a drummer badly though, but I can't bring myself to take the bike down for a week waiting. Maybe a "dead of winter" project.

The thing is really revvy compared to the Cyclone. Where the Cyclone is:

potatoe..... potatoe... potatoe... potatoe

The XB9 is:

tater.tater.tater.tater.tater.tater.tater

Less low end grunt, but very comfortable power, and hints at scary fast scary smooth power up top. Still in break in, so had to behave.

More later, gotta go watch my "welcome to the family" harley tape. I can just imagine it now...

(do this in that simpsons troy mcclure announcer voice, but every time you see Buell substitute in the audio of a badly edited in voiceover where they replaced Harley with Buell )...

: )

Welcome to the xxxxxBUELL******idson family. We at Ha******BUELL****son are glad to have you aboard... As you make your next trip to your local bar*****TWISTIE ROAD***** please take the time to consider the following thoughts....

Anybody work out how to get some bar ends on the thing? Looks like it could be done right along with the handguards, but they would be pretty low and down. And I gotta find a place to stash some sort of tools for the thing... a tire patch kit, small bike pump, and some cable ties. Not a lot of margin there... maybe a tail bag or cowling.

Reepicheep:

Congrats on the XB9SX. I've been eyeing that bike ever since F&S got it. Definitely my favorite of the current offerings as I prefer the 9s over the new 12s. Still like my S3T better, but would love to have the XB9SX next to it.

Not sure you remember me, but I saw you at Battletrax in Dayton earlier this year.

Can't wait until you update your profile, get a pic of the new bike up!

I've made it so the straps go under the seat (straps closest to your rear end if you're sittin' on the bike) since I took this pic.

Outrider... I don't deny it, it's like Christmas : )

Glitch... thats great, off to walmart and target at lunch to see what the current inventory looks like.

Marks3t... I remember, good to hear from you. You made that s3 look really good on the battletrax course. And they still have one more 9sx there at F&S, it's not too late! I was working with Bill there, who "gets" the whole Buell thing completely, and rides a 12r.

Kirk, I included the "good" bits on the bike when I sold it to F&S, and also gave them a big old box of original bits. I do have a spare tank though, bubbled letters and a couple minor scratches, but otherwise pretty good.

Court... Thanks. Now go get one of your own! I double dog dare ya! The package works as designed, and it was designed right.

Cool side note from the Fuell article... Erik says he got part the inspiration from the CityX concept from watching one of the Terminator movies.

Part terminator, part Dave Guess. I don't quite know how to feel about that ; )

Kim,
Thanks for rubbing it in. He still doesn't want to go back home the scenic way, but after a semi just about took me out on I-40 I'd rather go on back roads. I told him that we'd be crazy to have come all the way down and not ride the 2- laners.
We're taking off this morning to go up thru Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff, 4-Corners, Durango. Depending on where we make it I'm planning on Wolf Creek Pass then angle up towards home.
I'm reall sorry we couldn't get together but I'll give you the details on a less public forum (sittin down over a few beers).
Later,
Mike

That would be a great cap to top off a trip before slabbing it home. Hope he saw the notice for the music. Then he could pop north from there and snag the south west corner of S.D. via Custer northbound out of Cheyenne.

Reep, Don Sabatino out here on the left-coast bought a CityX a month ago. I am blown away by the bike's appearance. It is way too cool in that blue color, and he says the mapping is right on...and he ownes a XB12 and has had an XB9. Don trades bikes a lot, obviously. Enjoy. Pictures don't really do that bike justice. U need to see it in person.

Reep,
I'm think I'm confused. I started with a 2000 X1 and now I have a 1995 S2. Am I doing this Buell thing backwards? Crap, I think I want an RSS next! Anyway congrats on the new ride, those bikes are cool! Get some flashing christmas lights and stick 'em in the tank "bubble"...that'll freak out the ricers fer sure. Tell 'em its a small fusion reactor!

It involves simulated heartbeats, and simulated fire, and a good sized chunk of lexan.

Oh I missed the sounds.....

My S1X is alive and breathes! Finished a couple minor things today. Put blood into it and some food. Turned the key and thumbed the starter. A couple dry cranks and she lit the fire.

Still some stuff to sort out but, it is alive.

btw: S1X would be a S1 with the XB top end.

Kim,
We finally made it home. It took us forever to get thru the mountains in AZ & CO. My partner (also named Kim) sure doesn't ride the mountains like you do. He was afraid to let the bike run going downhill so I would outrun him and then have to stop and wait for him to catch up. I think a grandma in a motorhome even passed him once. We did get involved in a cattle drive while we were doing the south route around Wolf Creek Pass.
I'm real sorry that we couldn't meet up this trip. I guess we'll have to wait until the Buell gathering out there next summer.

Here's a shot from Canyon Lake on the Apache Trail outside of Apache Jct.Wow
