Okay, here's the question -- Assuming I wanted to buy a second (or third, or...) bike, what's higher on the fun/sexy/quality/reliability list -- a Monster 750 or a Speed Triple? Steve. |

The myth about Desmo's being somewhat specialist comes from two things. One of those still applies. The valves do not close with a spring like conventional set-ups. Instead they close with a forked rocker pulling the valve shut. There is nothing complicated about the mechanical actuation of the Desmo sytem. A simple clip affair allows the rockers to move out of the way so the shim can be accessed. The only difficulty one might encounter is with the mathematical process needed to measure \ adjust the shims. No you don't need a degree in Math, just common sense. Good eye sight helps too. Myth number two doesn't apply to belt drivers. Remember when Ducati's had bevel drive over head cams? They were somewhat complicated to assemble \ align. There you are, now you know where the rumour started about Desmo's being difficult. Nothing to do with belt drive. Belts are easy to change and they are cheap as chips. I wouldn't go 10000 miles on mine. They are supposed to be changed every two years anyway, despite mileage. I'm also told that a French or Italian car shares the same belts as a 916 but I've not got the research down on that one yet. Rocket |

2k4x, You have to move up to a Monster S4R or at LEAST a Monster 1000 to start compairing to a Speed Tripple. The Tripple puts out like 116HP at the rear wheel. |

Okay, so between the Monster 1000 and the Speed Triple then? The S4R represents too much of a price difference to make the comparison on par. Steve. |

If it's semi-unique I'll throw it in the RANE benefit auction. If not I'll put it back in the box. (the bumper sticker, not the foil key tag that came with my RS). The sticker is about 2.5"x8" |

The S4R represents too much of a price difference to make the comparison on par. Like Jason said, that's the only Monster you could compare to a Speed Triple. There's simply to much of a performance difference to compare any other Monster than the S4R. Price is irrelevant unless you're actually buying one. But you did ask which bike is \ has fun/sexy/quality/reliability. That would be both. The Monster 750 is a bit of a chic's bike. You won't set the world on fire with its performance. There is a lot of tuning scope with one though, but then you're talking money again. If you don't want to go balls out on the open road and you do a lot of city riding the Monster is a cool bike. Nothing about the Triple makes it a chic's bike unless the chic's a tomb raider by profession. The Triple is a powerful machine and it is heavier and larger than a Monster. If performance is your measure of fun you wouldn't be asking after a 750 Monster in the same breath as a triple. The Triple could scare your granny, just looking at it. The Monster might get you laid, in a gay bar. Rocket

Before this post gets removed..... Just Harleys ran 10.34 on a carbed X1, no wheelie bars and street tyres only. The bike was street legal too. Oh about 4 years ago. Can you say old hat Aaron. Rocket |

Roger, Call a local State Farm agent and ask them your question. It may be just a policy of your insurance company. Some do this as a means to protect against fraud attemtps. Josh, I've got one of those stickers at home someplace. I think I picked it up at one of the Homecomings, or a local dealership. If you do auction it off post a pic of it with a ruler next to it, will help to emphasize the size.

>Just Harleys ran 10.34 on a carbed X1 What was the class and restrictions? Kind of apples and oranges without that bit of knowledge. I know a guy ran 8.0xx with an S2 4 or 5 years ago. The following year he ran 7.8xx with a Road Glide. stickers aren't rare and unique? ok nevermind |

Josh ... last Saturday I had the honor and pleasure of walking a beautiful young woman down an aisle as people looked on and snapped pictures. I then handed her off to someone else and sat down. For me, it was the culmination of over 20 years of watching and helping her advance from a baby, to a little girl, to a young lady, and finally into adulthood and marriage. She makes me very proud. In the words of someone I admire and respect very much, and in the same context as him: "ergo, I'm done." |

HD's support of the Pro Stock motorcycle classes includes body work. I've seen pictures of RS-inspired Pro Stock bikes and one of the S2 bodies is on a chassis up at my local shop (and it ran 8s back when it had a motor). After that they ran RoadGlide bodies and (of course) HD currently has VROD ones. I parked my S3 next to the S2 drag bike at one time. The seat on the drag bike was a good 6" lower and the bike was at least 2 feet longer without the wheelie bar. Very funny to see. |

Speaking of ProStock/TopFuel - head over to Vance and Hines website (each is linked <-- ) and look at the pages for each of their drag bikes. Then pull down the "Harley" menu on each page and see how they spelled "Buell" |
