Pat, Matt, and other NYers,
It is awesome riding up here. I went up to Lake Placid over the weekend, took 9 and 9N, and it was just fabulous.
I am still in the military, 'till 2008 actually.
I saw a ton of bikes in Lake George, but I was the only Buell I saw. It's nice standing out!

Pat- Need any help with your bike?

What is BRAG?

Thanks!

Rocketsprink,
Why not just sew on the fuzzy velcro stuff?

I don't see any kind of strap-on puck arrangement holding up.

Ferris...Thanks for your comments and keep up the good work.

Bomber...A Brats'n'Cheese run sounds like fun. One day or two day trip swinging through the various Buell dealers would be great and folks can pick up and leave off where they choose.

Buelliedan...You are correct in many ways and definitely not wrong in any.

Al is a true Buell enthusiast and would most likely have made the trip regardless. However, in addition to some promotion I believe his primary business goal was to better understand the market. Either way, he was a wonderful person to meet.

Concerning the $75 fee, I never said it was too much and yes I agree with you that it actually was low. What I did point out is that the $75 should be amortized over three not four days. As BRAG originally announced the Farewell Dinner was on Friday and that Saturday at the races was a bonus. Therefore, in my example I addressed the daily fee at $25 per day and a total of $100 less the "Care Package" for all that didn't have the foresight to register for the entire event.

In no way am I arguing that BRAG did not provide an excellent value for the cost. In fact, I believe I said that they set a new standard for such events. The catch is, I don't believe anyone should be allowed to crash or freeload and that many more from the Milwaukee and Chicago areas would have attended for a day or two if the daily fee was an option.

Consider last years Buell 20th. Yes, it wasn't a BRAG event and HDI was miffed because a few loyal Bueller's initiated and conducted the event as it conflicted with their glorious 100th. We had 85+ bikes for the run from Hal's to Buell, but the rest of the event was well less than 30 bikes. Guess who took a day to support Buell but had to return to work or family? The Banquet was a different story as it was in the evening and open to all for only a $20 fee. Was it worth it? God Yes!!! The camraderie was fantastic and Erik was in his element. Do you really want to deny us that experience?

Don't know if I met you at Uke's, but I had a great conversation with Houston Glen who was a year behind me in High School here in Brookfield and has a number of common friends. If I did meet you, you were merely one of many wonderful folks I did and am looking forward to future encounters.

From your Profile, it looks like it won't be long before you start your own Buell Museum and I admire your commitment to the brand. It is Die Hard participants and contributors (on the BWB and where ever else you post) like you that are an inspiration for the rest of us. Just realize I am not blowing smoke up your Tush and am sincere with the comment.

My entire concept is to increase participation at the events. There were many times more locals that didn't go than did and I would like to see this reversed. One reason is to increase the Buell fold. Another is that a lot of preparatory planning and work at the event was done by two local BRAG Clubs and many of those that served you breakfast, assembled your route sheets, etc., had to go back to work and perhaps missed the rest of the functions altogether. Now, does that seem fair to you?

Concerning riding from Brookfield to Lake Delevan or anywhere else in North America (including Mexico and Canada), it's a piece of cake and have done it many times on a wide variety of bikes. So what's your point? Mine was that my Sig "O" and I had a limited schedule and we could only make it for one evening. I don't know about you, but I share my life with my Sig "O" and $150 for a dinner and a romp in a Town Square was a little excessive. Please understand I am not coming down on you. I am merely explaining my position on the matter.

I had plenty of time and opportunity to crash the party and freeload. However, like Ferris and many others that did or did not participate in the homecoming, I share my life with my Sig "O". As a result, it wasn't feasible for us.

Not to mention, as I have posted in the past, I am a man of honor and respect the rights of those that paid for the event and those that organized it. Ergo, I do not freeload as was the intention of many in their posts right here on the BWB in recent months. I play, I pay. That's the way it is. Would your prefer we just freeload?

If BRAG wants to increase attendance at the events and come close to budget they may want to consider this. If not, I assume they want to play with the exclusive few that can attend the entire event. It's not my decision, just my opinion. Note: this is my only sore point or criticism. Sort of a Self Limiting Prophecy, eh?

Thanks for your understanding regarding this matter. This is just some more rationalization for my position. Please don't take it personal, but I wrote it and numerous others more for BRAG than I did for you.

Hey, I flew out from California, rented a car, stayed in the hotel and paid my fee. I think I have only missed one homecoming since becoming a buell enthusiast.
We did promote al more than he....
The main thing for the buell homecoming this year was food and friends...food everywhere you turned, and then of course all of the buell folks talking motorcycles and having fun.
The buell folks like to talk buells.....In addition to the factory tour, it would be good to have buell talks each night with the engineers and plant workers....we would love it.
the east troy event was great...since the plant is in east troy , we should do more events there and support the town. It was fun to meet them and show them what kind of folks buy products produced in their town.
Erik and his crew were great.....REX

Greetings, all.
I'm back in SD, it was more like 4200 miles round trip. 2 long days there, 2 long days back. I'm beat. Now I get to play catch up at A.S.B., there's a lot of customer assistance issues that have been getting backed up while I was out playing.

I've been to several BRAG events of late, and they've all been pretty well done. Hasn't been one yet that I didn't think I got my monies worth and then some. But I do think it would be a good thing to have some type of "partial participation plan", where you pay like 1/2 price or some such thing to attend one or two of the events. Logistically difficult or not, I GUARANTEE that the events will be better for it. A lot of other "local" people will attend some of the functions, as I'm sure there are many other honorable people like Bill that can't do the whole thing and won't crash an event.

Peggy really seems to be getting a lot more comfy in her new gig. And Mary is always great too.

Too much fun over the past week, no time to do the write up/pictures now. Met so many Buellers that I'll never be able to remember all the names, but what a GREAT group of people. Did my first BattleTrax events (even WON one of them, but it was BracketTrax, not the low time, version...I'm not fast). Can't say I'm a big fan of Wisconsin roads, which lack serious twisties and, near as I can tell, are in a perpetual state of DETOUR. Seeing the factory in operation was just too cool. There has been some serious manufacturing engineering work done to get the processes nailed.

Rex is right, he (and BuellieDan, and others) were better salesman for A.S.B than I. I've got to work on that whole salesman thing, I guess. Thanks Rex, BD, and all the rest of you that helped make folks aware of us.

Major thanks to Coolice (Mike) for helping me get my wounded shop XB9 back to lake lawn in his trailer (broken wire in the loom, I think). Thankfully, it only decided to break AFTER the very cool SIX!!! laps of RoadAmerica. Mike is one very nice dude, the kind of guy that you warm up to instantly when you meet them and would help anyone in need. Thanks dude!

I'll write more and post pics in the homecoming section later.

Al

"BracketTrax"

Good to see you again. All I'd suggest is to have some business cards with the American Sport Bike web site address printed on them. Key chain fobs would be nice too, but business cards would probably be enough.

Al -- it was great to meet you . . . .next time you're in this neck of the woods, gimme a shout, and I'll make sure you come away with a different perspective on our roads . . . .the runs planned we for self-guided larger groups . . . .there were a number of more technical routes that were not published (not a complaint, just an observation) that I would NOT have sent groups of 20/30 riders on without a good point man (way too many folks for fun, I say!), and would have led riders far from the planbned activities (BRAG is part of HDI's marketing, after all, yes?) . . .

anywho, I also had a great time, and enjoyed meeting you and drooling over that aces XB of yours . . . . .

Incidentally, since you're getting it for such a steal, why are you blowing it by telling everyone?

Aaron,
I am up to six but will probably be selling my S1WL track bike soon. Closest track is 3 hours away so its kinda silly to have.

How may times have you and I tried to acquire this very bike now? Maybe now I can finally get it home. (for those of you wondering what I am talking about, Aaron and I almost bought this bike a while back in a strange kinda partnership a few years back)

Not silly at all. I have a great track nearby, but to ride the twisty roads I gotta travel four hours or more. Keep the race bike too.

Congrats on the RS.

Did anyone catch Last Comic Standing that aired Tue 6/8? There was a guy that went onto the next round... he was sporting a Buell shirt with the iron on logos on the sleeve. Wondered if he was a rider who's on this board.
