i'm going to be riding my 97 m2 from san francisco to salt lake city sometime in the next month... this will be a 12 hour, 800 mile ride across some of the most beautiful--yet barren--stretch of land in north america... those of you that have ridden highway 50 know what i'm talking about... now... am i insane, or is this a reasonable request to ask of my snarling beast? as an aside; the last time i made this trip was on my 1976 bmw r90/6... i blew up the engine... though it did have over 200,000 miles on it, so i guess it was about time. badweb survey time: what is the longest single day ride any of you have taken on your buell? under what conditions, and with what results? thanks for participating! c | ||

Cerbero, I did 920 miles in 18 hours in rain then hot sun then night on my '97 Cyclone. No problems whatsoever. This was at the tail end of a much longer journey from NY to TX via back roads and the Blue Ridge Parkway. | ||

Jack van voast on his S-2 and me on my 97 M-2 did the trip to wendover and bonneville from the bay area.......No problems what so ever other cold weather.....and rain...we basically cruised along at 80 mph....rex | ||

"Motorcycle Fatalities on the rise..." I took a closer look at the picture and I don't believe that it is from any red light camera in the U.S. I'm sure some of you are wondering as to what kind of a sick-o wants a closer look, but I was curious if the rider had a helmet. The report was so good as to make a general statement about relaxed helmet laws possible being a contributing factor, so I looked closer. Before someone goes off on me about helmet laws and there good I just want to say "It should be the riders choice." There are many other things in this world that we leave to personal choice that impact our society as a whole, why cant this be one too. Now that I've spoken my opinion on that on to the other issue that I have about the article. If you are reporting about U.S. fatalities then I would think that a U.S. based picture would be what was needed. The other thing that really gets me is that this is a graphic picture of the downside of riding in a motorcycle mag. I understand that we as riders need to present the whole picture, otherwise we will be accused of trying to hide the bad parts. I just don't believe that what has been shown and reported presents a clear and truthful picture. I'm sorry to rant on about it, it just pushed some buttons on me. On a more somber note. Ebear, May peace and joy find you again, a sisters love can never be replaced. Although the memories bring you sadness now, they will bring you warmth and happiness in the times to come. I know the memories of my father do now. | ||

My guess is the crash photo is from Spain, based on the license plates and "no parking" sign. Probably included for the dramatic effect, but I agree that it should have been credited more clearly. You reap what you sow. Dudes who drink & ride, don't wear helmets, and wear wife-beaters and shorts as cycling attire may believe their candles are burning twice as bright as mine, but surely they will burn half as long. Ride to live to ride again. | ||

OK guys. I need help from those with electrical genius. This is a picture coming off a 3 contact 3/32 speaker/mic. plug.  The wire on the right (white/gnd) is the mic plug. It works great. The wire on the left has a red colored wire and bare wire in the same insulator. I assume the red wire is hot and the bare is the common gnd.  This leads up to the earbud. I'm puzzled as there is no insulator separating these wires and I can't get sound no matter which way I connect the wires. When I flicked the end of the red wire I got clicking like a momentary connection was made. Is the red coloring on the wire an insulator? If so, will heating it up with solder help? or is there another way to remove it? Thanks, trying to wire up my helmet... | ||

I've seen that same "uninsulated" wire coming off earbuds before, never had any luck attaching to it or repairing it. I think it is probably lacquered wire of some sort, and when it wears through it is trash. Can you just replace the whole wire with some better grade cable? | ||

Time frame We'll be racing this year in June. Vic Fasola will have to decide which race exactly. I wanted to race this month -- I'm a little bit overly enthusiastic maybe. I'm not as much worried about the chassis development, but we definitely have a lot of work to do with the motor. We want to make sure it's durable. Development We hope to get a lot of help from Italy, but we're prepared to do it from here if need be. We're definitely starting the development here, and then hopefully Italy will be sending some parts initially and then doing some development simultaneously with us. HQ The actual team will be located in California, but we may have an engine shop located back East as well. Vic and I have been talking about that and it might make sense to do so. We'll be on the East coast a lot very soon anyway and Vic has a couple of guys who already have an engine shop right there ready to go. They'll be starting this week, tearing the motors down and doing some rebuilds. Tires We haven't finalized the tire deal. We've had interest from all three of the majors – Dunlop, Pirelli, and Michelin. Testing Absolutely, a lot. Will start testing shortly -- within the month of May certainly. Aprilia's current financial difficulties Obviously I'm not worried about it, or we wouldn't be making this announcement today. The team is being funded by Jeff (Jensen) and the people behind him, and we're getting help from Aprilia USA, and getting some parts help and some motorcycles from Italy. We really feel it's important to get started now so by next year it will be a fully competitive program | ||

Cerbero: 2004 XB12S, Dover, DE to Toronto, Ontario, Canada area, 10 hours 650 miles. Return trip 3 days later. This was done in OCtober and was all good up until I hit the snowfall in Binghampton, NY. That was a tad scary but made it through without mishap. Otherwise I have done 350-400 mile days on a regular basis, well at least twice a month since January. | ||

Cerbero, Take along a spare quart of oil or two and enjoy the ride. Rode my 2000 M2 from Milwaukee WI to Seattle WA a few years ago with no problems other than more oil loss on some days than on others. That and getting rear-ended were the only negatives of the trip (and dealing with the insurance company). If I had the time I'd do the ride again with no hesitation. | ||

Cerbero -- 900+ miles in one 24 hour period -- northern Illinois to southwestern Wisconsin, bopped around a bit, and back . . .. . start, high 40's cloudy . . .. middle, low 80's sunny, end low 50s, cloudy . . .. no problems, though I do have a tendancy to carry a quart of my favorite oil (Mobil 1) just in case, and woiuld advise you do too . . .. my guess is that well stocked gas stations are fthin on the ground where you're going | ||

About 750 miles from NYC to NC; gray, drissling rain which cleared up later - mid 50's to mid 60's. Ear plugs, redone seat, heated grips and Widder electric vest along with an Aerostitch made it quite comfortable. When I arrived at my destination I was ready to get off the bike and take a break, but not terribly beat up. Did another 350 miles of back roads the following day. Henrik | ||

So far 450 miles is the most I've done in a day on my Blast in 9 hours, about half wide open highway running, the rest mountain 2 lane. San Luis Obispo to South Lake Tahoe. Eric |
