Sporty I used to travel internationally a great deal as part of my job . . . . the US customs gits were, by far, the worst on the planet (including many parts of what are usually not considered part of the "free world"  . . .rude, condescending, poorl;y trained, worse educatied, rude, in your face, did I mention rude? yikes . . .. is it any wonder so many folks have an even worse attitude towards this country after encountering a poorly spoken, gum cracking, offensive "ambassador" at an airport . . . . . in contrast, my dealings with Canada's border folks have been much more pleasant (including the one that turned a somewhat moe hirstute bomber away at the Niagra crossing in 19 and 68, saying that I should go home and face the draft, it wouldn't be that bad . . . .he was right, I did, but he was wrong {grin}) remind Court to remind me to tell you the story | ||

I've been to quite a few counties around the world (including one who required a visa I didn't have) and the only time I've had problems was with Canadian customs/border guards. Enough that I didn't even bother entering the country. | ||

I have named few bikes of the 27 I have owned. But the 2001 X1 had to have a name, and that name had to be "42". The meaning of life the universe and everything. It fits perfectly  | ||

Rex the Crimped bars are the good ones because there is no material loss. The cut and welded bars are weaker due to the loss of material. | ||

Paul, I got your message on my mobile. I'd dragged myself out of the cardboard box and was actually on the bike going to work  Good luck at Lake Gairdner(click for info) and please go crazy with a camera. I want to see pics of everything.....! For anyone that's not aware, Paulinoz and Pilot (I think?) are going to the Australian salt flats tomorrow to set some new speed records with an XB12R  Have fun mate. I'm REALLY jealous..... | ||

Rex, pretty much what Wycked said. also, the problem bars are the S2T tall bars, not the S2 standard bars. (S2pengy, please correct me if i'm wrong here, thanks.) | ||

Ferris, I would also like to know re the standard S2 bars. My tall touring bars (the ones I'm currently using) are the new crimped units. My standard set are the cut and weld variety. I prefer the tall set but would like to know if the lower standard set should be destroyed. Brad | ||

Yep, both of my set are cut out style, on the bike and my spare..but I have no idea if they are the touring bars or not? Jim......Higgins...the next time we are together, we can look at them....Looks like they would be stronger than just crimped bars welded on to a flat spot...ohwell.....rex | ||

Brad, The lower set are fine - they were never recalled, AFAIK. Rex, The standard bars measure 4" from bottom of the collar to top edge of the bar. HTH. David | ||

Bike preped and ready to load. At work till 2pm go load up and leave, Ross has been travelling since 4 am yesterday (approx 2,500 km) will met him 300 km north of here for dinner tonight and then drive to salt saturday mornning.  | ||

" Yes, send the low bars to me and I will see that they are properly I've got a modification idea and I need a spare set of bars, for the experiment they can even be the tall bad variety as the first test will never be mounted to a bike. And actually the handlebar recall only affected the taller touring bars as I understand it. Tall and cut then chuck them, tall and crimped then use them, short are fine regardless. AFAIK anyways. | ||

Ok guys....$500.00 or trade for a new '99 X1 shock. Please please...my bike is on a trampoline and not safe to ride. The weather is starting to get nice...HELP!!! I have a NIB post recall rear shock for 1997-1998 S3/S3T: Kit Part No. K1400.E (Shock Part No. K0431.B) All mounting gear is included. Would anyone know where I could get a trade for the same to a '99 X-1? This is the newest shock you can get for your S3/S3T. I am willing to sell for $500.00 plus shipping. This kit retails for $629.00 at Harley/Buell dealerships.  | ||
