The bike would die the moment he let the clutch out to get going, if it's cutting out under load he got past that point...... |

Hey JQ, were you ever up to Battlefield Harley Davidson/Buell in Gettysburg? I was looking for BRAG groups back in 2000, and I remember I talked to one of the leadership members of the D.C. group. There was a herd of Buells there, he introduced me to different members, who in turn showed me there bikes, and were a great bunch of guys. He also told me of Badweatherbikers, and a few other places for lookiing up information for my bike. If this was you, I really wanted to thank you, and the D.C. members for helping me get my feet wet... True, true, I should not stay up so late, my mind does not function right. I am taking notes so next time the Orange Crush wants to pop and bang, I have a little more knowledge where to look. Brian |

Stingaroo, did the guy talk your ear off? More than likely José. back to the side-stand switch: my first one acted like Ken/Blastards -- 'spitting and sputtering violently and backfiring and momentarily dying out'. second one would kill it when releasing the clutch. third one may be OK, but it's bypassed with a shunt made out of the second's plug. any word on what's going on?

If you are looking for the harmony of a humming engine and a silky ride, this is probably not your bike. If, on the other hand you are: a bit on the insane side, love adrenalin, need a workout while riding, love attention and generally causing chaos – Call Harley today and they will hook you up. Pinched this from an online review of XB12S on an Oz Motorcycle site http://www.roadcarver.com/article.php?type=bike&id=45 Thought it summed up a Buell owner fairly well

Brian, I probably have your bike's picture in my computer somewhere. I remember talking to you, I love Gettysburg, the town is great, the dealer better still and their Battletrax surface is the best that we ride on all year. I scraped my pegs in the rain, the grip is so good! Back to the other topic: It could be anything, the switch even, but without having the bike in front of you and based on what was said, it does not sound like the switch to me, but I could be wrong. edited by josé_quiñones on January 22, 2004 |

Blasterd, It was probably carb icing at 30 degrees and FL humidity. My S-3 does it below 40 degrees here in VA... |

Thanks for all the input guys, everyone here is so helpful. I did clip the kickstand safety switch wires and cap them together. I also checked the tank vent hose, everything else will have to wait for the weekend. Whatever it was, the bike was fine tonight. I do have a couple of questions though, what does a loose primary chain sound like and should there be oily residue covering my front wheel bearing? Just some things I came across while re-torquing bolts today. You guys will have to look me up if you are coming to bike-week, I-75 runs right through Lake City. Thanks, Ken |

Oh yeah, Ferris, the plug wires and caps are a-ok. Kenw, what should I look for regarding the crankcase vents? Ken |

eBay heads up. These S2 touring bars: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2454633399 They are the older model that were recalled because they break at the weld. I've informed the seller, but buyer beware. Henrik |

How concerned should I be with a leaking front fork seal? It was leaking just a bit for about a month or so (you could see a thin line of fork oil on the leg). But I noticed last night that it's leaking significantly more and running down the fork leg. Is this one of those "WTF are you doing?!? You're gonna die if you don't get it fixed!" or "Get it fixed soon, you could be damaging your fork, but it should be ok to ride." Thanks . . . Chris |

You need to address it pretty quickly. If the fork oil gets on the brake pads it ruins them as well as creates an unsafe braking situation....I don't think it will damage the fork in any way. |

split the difference, Chris . .. .don't ride much before getting it fixed, and try to discover if there's a ding in the fork leg that will imeediately destroy the new seal (not always the case . . .they sometimes let go for no reason, or, at least, reasons not immediately understood) |

Yeah,Ferris could screw up a round steel ball. I had the ealy bars on my S-2 when I showed up at the Buell factory for a tour in 1996.The engineer who was showing me around(Brankin Brehmer)noticed the bars while checking out my bike.In a blink they had whisked my bike into the backroom and installed the recall bars on the spot--now that's service. |

Bart, I just posted in the Arizona Section. I'm not going to ride tommorrow. I want to replace the fork seal before I go on any long rides. Hopefully it will be done by next weekend. I've got a Sportster but somehow don't think it will be the same as riding with you guys on the M2. Have a nice weekend. If you head up north, dress warm. |

i've been noticing that the brake side fork seal usually starts seeping first. something about brake dust on the fork leg eating the seal up? anyhow, i just got my fork seals in today and will be doing the service this weekend. hopefully, it will go real well and i won't end up with a spring in my chest. my s1 has been seeping a few months, about 800 miles but has gotten worse recently. tim |

Smoke: There is some learned opinion that feels the brake force acting on one side only, torques the whole assembly. That's not the first brake side fork leg that has been outta whack. |

My S1 is leaking on the brake side also. I don't buy into that force tweaking the seal though. If so, a fork brace would cure that, right? Anyway, I'll be getting it replace next week, along with my tires. Az_M2, the Sporty is fine. What matters is that you ride. If you want to go, it doesn't matter what you are riding. As long as YOU enjoy yourself!!! think again my friend before you pass up an opportunity to ride. "It doesn't matter what you ride, all that matters is that you ride!" Either way, Have a great weekend. |
