Hey Ferris -

What's the weather like in Ferrisville today. We've got absolutely beautiful riding weather here in Mariposa, sunny and warm. If only the ground weren't all covered in that slippery white stuff.

Does that report come from the back of Thong? WW and I went for a walk and almost didn't get back w/o chaining up our boots. I've got a great pic of Congo African Grey Parrot meets snow...but no connection cable for download.

actually, it IS gorgeous here today. not particularly warm, tho, since a brisk wind has come up since i last posted. almost none of the recent snow has reached the lake -- you've got to go about a mile up the Bostrom (literally) to really get into it. hence, the roads in the immediate vicinity are perfectly rideable today, no chains required.

no riding for ME today, however.

must...keep...polishing.......

hello to Wonder Woman :)

Hey Ferris my comments were not intended to dis the S2. Hell dude I'm not so stupid that I don't see what appeals with them to you S2 lovers. Anyway you nailed my post in the end with your dragger jeans comment

Incidentally there's a company over here markets kevlar denim jeanery and I'd be amazed if this stuff isn't available over your side of the pond - just what you need dude.

Eric I will get there one day - hopefully sooner rather than later. America has so much to offer the Rocket. I have dreams and some of them have already become reality thanks to many on the BadWeB so I'm gonna carry on dreaming <grin>. Not to worry also - the big Buell is still in my blood <help!>. I have a dream of riding it around America someday <more punishment>. Thanks for the nice words Eric and have a great 2004 in that Kali sunshine <jealousy>.

Rocket

oops Ferris I nearly forgot - in the group pic the dude on the far right sporting the green top, yeah the dude with the beard - how much you want to bet he's NOT riding the white framed bagger?

Hey Ferris my comments were not intended to dis the S2...

no worries, Rocket, i knew you were just playin' around :)

oops Ferris I nearly forgot - in the group pic the dude on the far right sporting the green top, yeah the dude with the beard - how much you want to bet he's NOT riding the white framed bagger?

you're right, he's not, but i can tell you who IS, and that'd be the guy standing directly behind the "white-framed bagger", yeah, the fella whose hand is resting on the seat, none other than Modesto Buell/Ducati's finest, Danny "Darkside" Goldsmith.

if you like a guy with longgggg hair, multiple face piercings, Pegasus tattoos, and a smile that doesn't know how to quit (not to mention he's a Real Good Friend to have at the dealership), Dark's the Dude.

ya gotta love him. three days after he buys his S2 in '97 he departs from Rapid City, South Dakota and rides pretty much non-stop to Washington, arriving just in time to join Erik Buell and 120 of his best friends for Blue Groove/Northwest and a ride up Mount St. Helens (the genesis for the annual SPLASH ride).

so 20 minutes into the deal, with Erik and crew in hot pursuit, we come around a corner and there's Darkside parked on the side of the road, looking rather forlorn.

we all stop, and it turns out the bolt and nut that holds the shift lever on are MIA. Dark's got the lever in hand, but no hardware to secure.

a couple dozen of us (including Erik) start searching the shoulders, and several minutes later, against what seemed like some pretty long odds, somebody finds the hardware, out comes my tool kit, Danny installs, Erik supervises, and we were on our way.

Danny's been a good friend ever since (and FWIW he's one of only two guys i've ever ridden a Buell in Mexico with).

these days the piercings are gone (altho i'm pretty sure the holes are still there), but other than that he hasn't changed.

which is a good thing. :)

ride to lean,

Ferris you're supposed to bet he's NOT but if you say he's NOT then you've won the bet if you gets my meaning - which just goes to show my theory about grey trousers and beards is yet another one of Rocket's famous fook ups!

Great yarn by the way - and how much did I lose?

Ferris & Dino...it is freezing down here in LA. Going down to 30ish tonight...mighty wind blowing too. I has been so cold I have not ridden in three weeks. Just put the bike on the charger to keep the battery up. U guys coming to Laguna Seca this year? I scored on a Motel 6 room in downtown Monterey last September...now that is advance planning! Stay warm...looking forward to Octoberfast already!

The new Cycle World hit the mailbox today. Dave Edwards talks about the International Bike of the Year selection process. Interesting to note that the German voters at Motorrad MO picked out XB12S as their number one choice. They said " Who ever expected a winning bike from the Buell factory? But the latest long stroke hammering V-twin from Wisconsin is more than just a unique and oddball statement from a nonconformist manufacturer. This bike is really well done and amazingly good. It reminds us of what makes motorcycle riding worthy and inspiring."

Pretty cool eh? The XB did win overall or even place but cool to get a first place vote from a very tough motorcycle market. Overall winner was the GSXR Suzuki.

Scott,

Good to see your name up on the board. I've ridden recently despite the chill, but I draw the line at riding on ice. There's a big Aussie in the Fresno area who rides a GL1500 damn near year around in shorts. A couple weeks ago a mutual friend told me he dropped the wing at slow speed on ice. Couldn't get footing to lever it up so he dragged/slid it across the ice til he could get footing. Thanks, no thanks.

Tomorrow night, when I'm back where I can download a photo from my camera, I'll post a picture from this morning of my driveway.

Scott, i echo Dino's sentiments, it's good to see your name pop up. cold up here in the mountains, too -- a good portion of what we rode back in Oktoberfast is under several feet of snow right now. can't imagine us SoCalians are gonna get much sympathy from the outside world, tho... ;)

i absolutely will be doing Laguna again this year, as will Dino (he just doesn't know it yet). i'll be on my new Buell, with my partner Denise keeping me good company on her VFR. can't wait.

Dave, that's bitchin' news from Cycle World, and has gotta make Erik feel pretty proud :)

Bruce1: I am running the XB Lightning headlights on my S1 and I installed a set on a 1999 M2 as well. They are MADE IN USA, (they use NON METRIC Hardware!!), and I got the whole schmear for $55, including the H7 Bulbs!!! Now, I had to fab a bracket to mount the thing to the existing fork brackets, but the result was a much more contemporary look and the lighting is much better at night, too. After I finished, and I rode the bike around, nobody commented on the dual headlight setup, BECAUSE IT BELONGED THERE!!!

That was not the ONLY bike Erik wrenched on that day....I attended over 50 Buell events that year and I hand it to you, that was one of the best!

thank you for the compliment, Court. i still get a chuckle over the things your son Bryce said to you when we all got back from the Adventure Ride on Saturday... ;)

that's a great shot of Erik above -- geez, he looks all of about 20 years old in that pic! i don't remember who's T'bolt he was working on, mighta been Ricker's, maybe Fireman Jim's?

Blue Groove/Northwest was a magical weekend all the way around, and this July will happen the 7th annual SPLASH ride, a tribute really to Erik Buell, and to the undying passion and enthusiasm of a bunch of Northwest Hooligans.

at SPLASH last year there were 43 motorcycles -- from at least three states and Canada -- that launched from Horseshoe Lake Park on Saturday morning, from the very spot that Erik stood and spoke to the crowd back in '97. the makeup of the "fleet" has evolved some over the years, but the sense of camaraderie and adventure hasn't changed a bit.

i know i'm writing a book with this post (yeah, so what's effin' new, Ferris?), but that's how much this stuff moves me. i want to give special thanks to Chris and Loni Taylor, Mike and Matt Wood, and Bob and Debbie Gussenhoven for keeping the SPLASH dream alive over the years. it's a bunch of work putting on a major ride, and these guys have done a superb job every year of making it all seem so easy.

and fun.

ok, book over. :)

You certainly create and interesting dilema. I was approached, last Friday, to see if I was interested in "moving" an S4 Monster from Anaheim, CA to NYC. No way I can do what I am thinking of but boy howdy does it get me thinking......

I've used them twice with good results. They should be much cheaper than the $2400 you quoted.

I had a Sportster shipped from L.A. to Massachusetts 2 Summers ago, and it cost about $475.00, it I remember right. I know it was under $500.00. I used Daily Direct. I don't have their phone # anymore, but they have a website: www.haulbikes.com
