Jimjib, our local dealer still has a winter deal to upgrade your 883 to ThunderStorm heads 1200 for around $1500. How can you go wrong with that? |

Maybe a bunch of local Buellers should get together, pay the Motorcyclist parking lot a visit some weekday afternoon, let them know, one way or the other, how we feel about their crap reviews. |

Hey I live near LA... make it on a weekend please and let me know! I read Motorcyclist in its entirety every month and enjoy it very much, but the sometimes blatant Buell bashing is getting very old. Sometimes they even contradict themselves within a single article. i.e. when they compared the XB12R to the 900ss they complained about the suspension with one side of their mouth and praised with the other. Every one knows that the 'Bolt needs to be set up properly, perhaps more than other bikes, but I doubt they had that much trouble doing it, I mean they should be experts at set up by now. And they claim to just be in love with that dual spark engine and rated it way above the Buells, but the dyno results on the page (and I cant find the article right now so I may be wrong on this) and the acceleration numbers said otherwise. I really don't want to think these people are corrupt but am I missing something here? |

Hi Blake, over at ATC there's a new post from a German fellow with an X1 that, according to his mechanic, self destructed it's engine due to pinion gear or oil pump gear teeth breaking off, pretty sad...so i was thinking it would be nice if you or someone here with the computer skills and German language speaking(leaves me out on both counts)could go to Borgforum.de and invite these guys to check out this sites Knowledge Vault section.Stuff like Reep's"pull oil pump and look into camcase at pinion gear thread" would be of great help to any Buell rider. Thanks for the K.V. section.

Turnagain... don't throw out that kind of bait and leave us hanging! When mentioning an XB and Cycle Rama... it's what's inside that counts! Pictures just tease! Sucks to hear about another engine getting lunched by that gear. It is a 20 minute job to inspect it, but a pretty major PITA to replace it. Everyone here with 10k or more on the engine probably owes themselves a check. You will need a flash light and dental mirror... though I was actually able to use my Nikon Coolpix to get up in there and get a shot of it (posted somewhere here).

Not many shopping days are left so make sure your orders are placed early enough to arrive in time for the holidays. American Sport Bike’s newest arrivals: American Sport Bike #9022-Carbon Fiber Windscreen for the XB9/12 Lightning. This nice high quality piece features 6 layers of pre-preg and removes almost ½ lb. from the top of your bike. $159.95 American Sport Bike #9007 Carbon Fiber Right Side Engine Scoop. Many of you have asked us to make a high quality piece for the right side that matches the rest of our high quality carbon. Here it is. $124.95 *Dealer inquiries invited* It’s a known fact that bikes, like the Buell will accelerate faster, stop quicker and handle easier. Chapter 20 of Sportbike Performance Handbook, by Kevin Cameron states, “On a 100-horsepower, 435-pound sportbike, with rider and fuel, every 6 pounds of excess weight you dump is equal in effect to one more horsepower. Think about it.” In any high performance application, whether it is racing bikes, cars, planes or boats, weight is the enemy. Take a look at the list below and see what you need to do to get the full benefits of what you’re riding. The match-up: American Sport Bike Carbon vs. O.E.stock pieces: Note: The O.E. pieces in most cases here are at least 100% heavier (sometimes even more) than American Sport Bike’s Carbon Fiber. The following list is for the XB Series. O.E. Pieces vs. American Sport Bike Carbon Tank Cover: 2 lbs. 8 oz. vs. American Sport Bike #9006 C.I.A.: 13 oz. Ram Air (Left Side Scoop): 15.5 oz. vs. American Sport Bike #9012: 4 oz. Oil Scoop: 5 oz. vs. American Sport Bike #9011: 2.5 oz. Rear Fender: 7 oz. vs. American Sport Bike #9009: 2 oz. Front Fender: 14 oz. vs. American Sport Bike #9008: 7 oz. Windscreen (S Model): 10 oz. vs. American Sport Bike #9022: 3 oz. It’s easy to see who the winner is. Please don’t confuse this with other wet lay-ups that are very heavy and often cover pieces rather than replacements. While on the topic of weight savings, did you know that our # 9031 (XB9/12S Tail Section) is significantly lighter than the O.E. piece which weighs in at 3 lbs. 8 oz. American Sport Bike’s replacement section weighs in at 1 lb.12 oz. –reducing the weight by half. Aftermarket exhaust systems for the 9’s and 12’s are also much lighter than stock, sound better and make more horsepower. We have Dyno sheets on the Jardine Exhaust that we carry. If you would like one faxed or e-mailed to you, let us know. We also have Dyno sheets on our #9006-Cold Inducted Air Box Cover (carbon fiber) If you would like one of these, let us know. With a 2.8 horsepower increase and weight savings, we’re pretty jazzed and think you will be too. For those of you with XB’s that are into performance, we are in the midst of arranging an agreement to be the exclusive distributor for the new Brion-James Billet Aluminum Velocity Stacks. 6061T-6. The manufacturer claims that initial Dyno test results done with the velocity stack, our #9006 C.I.A. and the race kit, produce between 6 and 12 rear wheel horsepower gains. For those of you who would like to convert your XB to a chain drive, kits are now available at a very reduced price. Kit includes: swing arm, idler, axle, axle nut, adjusting blocks. This is an outright kit for $1295. If you are interested, let us know and we’ll get you set up. Intended for race track use-get the gearing you want.

All. Thinking of getting a URAL m/c hack rig. Been doing some research, and wondered if any of you had any experience with them? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Figgered that with studs in the tires it could be ridden all winter long also?

Greg- Kim & Chris Beres in Breckenridge, CO have one. They say it's a hoot to go out in the snow and beat around in. I could have given you a first-hand report but I had a terrible cold when I was there and didn't take them up on the offer. I think their's is the model that also drives the hack wheel. I would think that would be a definite advantage in snow. I used to have their email but couldn't find it. |

Sure Mike get me in trouble! Now Cheryle wants to know who the heck Chris is. Greg, As with anything, as long as you know what your getting into, a Ural can be alot of fun. People who would never even think of talking to a motorcyclist will wave and talk to you if you are on a sidecar rig. Uralists call it UDF short for Ural Delay Factor. If you don't want attention don't get a Ural. You almost have to plan extra time when you go somewhere, just to answer all questions people ask. We have had good luck with ours, but just like Buell's they have issues. Check out the Webboard at www.imz-ural.com/. Lots of good info and friendly people, just like here. Ours is a 2000 Patrol with a 650CC motor. The newer ones have a much improved(so everyone says) 750cc motor. They will go through ten inches of powder snow(that's powder not midwest cement) in one wheel drive. And doing donuts are a blast. Our dogs think it belongs to them. They are the only faimly members that don't scream when the sidecar gets flown. If you have never ridden a rig before, and get one be carefull. Take it slow. Urals come with very good rider manuals. Follow the book and you will do ok. Do check their out the webboard. It's the best place to learn more. E-mail is in my profile if you have any question's. If you have never ridden a rig before, and get one be careful. boy howdy! the first time you take a hard right at speed with no ballast (passenger, tool box) and hoist the chair in the air, effectively switching from three-wheeler to two-wheeler and experiencing what a remarkable, sudden, and dramatic difference said switch makes on cornering protocols, be prepared to leave a lasting impression of your clenched butt cheeks on your Corbin. and the first time you take a hard left at speed and look down at your fork tubes and see them flexing and folding to the left a good half inch or so before your pie-sized eyes, ditto the butt portrait. and the first time you spin a big, lurid brody with your hack (intentional or otherwise), scaring the crap outta your own bad self as well as any unwitting bystanders who happen to witness your rotational behavior... ...well, you get the idea. ride kinda sorta to lean, FB (once upon a time with an '86 H-D FXR-P and California Sidecar rig) |

Evergreen Safety, Seattle, Wa. the only sidecar safety course in the USA. Sometimes it travels to your home town. Look em up and ask questions. I took the course and it was a riot. Learning how to fly the chair is a hoot. Sometimes there are better options than the URAL combo available. Seek out knowledge. |

Flying the car is very addicting. Once you learn its hard not to be tempted on every right turn. Leading link forks are the way to go. Much less flex than on tube type forks. http://www.pbase.com/eurobikedenver/ural_pics Kim |
