Jim, I don't know which political party you belong to but I gather it's not the Republican party. Just remember it was Bill Clinton that signed NAFTA. It is also the Democrats that buy votes by giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens, wanted convicted criminals to vote and are willing to sell missle secrets to China for a measly few hundred thousand dollars in campaign contributions. The first thing I do before I buy is look and see where it is made. If it says China, I look for something else. But I also pay attention to what my politicians are doing to me and I feel the dems screw me a lot more than the repubs do. I just wish the AMA would stand up and say that too. |

Mike, Many politicians regardless of their political affiliation created this problem over the past 20 years but it’s the lowest common denominator that perpetuated their efforts, that being each individual American and how they spend their greenbacks. If Americans didn’t purchase the goods, the goods wouldn’t exist and we wouldn't be having this discussion. It’s no different than the BadWeb asking its’ end-users to support specific sponsors of the BBS. It boils down to loyalty, one’s character and simply doing what'z right. -JW:>| edited by jim_witt on November 16, 2003 |

NAFTA...Don't know if the US Government decided to get tough since it took effect, but ask any Teamster about the unfair competition (read: no safety regulations) that the Mexican truckers enjoyed in this country. Talk about rolling bombs...Yikes!!! |

The AMA let this Chinese Superbike Team into the Paddock at Daytona this year. Was somebody supposed to block them at the gate?

I can't tell if JQ is being serious and going completely off the deep end or joking. Jim... Like I said, I shun products with "made in China on them". I paid an extra $2 for a mop today that was "Made in Japan". Besides, I like the name "Grab It" better than "Swiffer". Unfortunately, there were no "Made in America" equivalents.Japan I have much less of a problem with than China. With Japan, it's more of an historical irritation and a trade imbalance irritation. Maybe we should have forced them into the Union. They are pretty reliable allies though. Y'all make a lot of good points, but I'm not sure you are seeing the entire picture. Jim, I had intended to comment in detail and thoroughly on the listing about a week ago of all the gloomy sounding statistics that you posted, just as I was halfway down the list with my questions and comments, the damn PC locked up on me and I had failed to save my work. That was an hour down the drain. Anyway, to summarize, that list and most of the statistics it presented were extremely lacking in integrity. The whole thing appeared to be an orchestrated and carefully hand picked list of statistics published for the sole purpose of not to help us understand the truth, but to push a specific agenda. I guess I should revisit the list and rework my comments/questions. I hate redoing work like that. I guess you are worth it. |

Jim, I wrote a reply and then didn't post it since I didn't really want to start a politcal discussion. But I will say a little here since Blake weighed in. A talk show host said that he didn't see any problem with cheap imports since it helps all of us buy more. But it does concern me when Americans lose their jobs due to cheap imports from countries that use slave labor (i.e.China). Look at what happened when Bush put tariffs on steel to help our steel companies, the Euros go ballistic. Where does it stop? When I buy stuff I just try and make a decision on where it is from, how bad I need it, and is it worth the cost? I do get real unhappy when politicians take my money and then tell me how to live my life. |

I did find the "ranking" thing that Jim posted about what helps the US best really interesting... Like "US owned company China manufactured" versus "China owned company US manufactured"... I wish there was a US made equivilent to the "good enough" tools that I get at Harbor Freight. A $35 biscuit joiner of medium quality in my shop is infinitely more useful then a $150 joiner of premium quality that will forever be on my wish list...

thing, Cool. ping me and let me know what you want for them. Still wondering about these bars, though. This is from Motorcycle.com's long term review of the S2 - they don't look like stock bars to me - anyone know what the deal is with them? |

Far as I know, Crossroads is the only one making 54mm clip-ons with a 1" bar. Those look similar to the Crossroads but is that some kind of a riser on them? |

Hey PB: If you are looking for a set of "clip-ons" for your S2, I have a set. I also have a set of spacers that would move the fairing forward so you have a little extra room. I also have a stock set of S2 bars. I replaced the stock bars with a really nice set of "Touring" bars from American Sport Bike that save this reach-challenged" Buelligan. Let me know and we can talk. Neil S. |

When I put the clip-ons on the Bonneville S-2,I just made a couple of bars 1" and machined down the ends to 7/8" to go in the clamps.I wanted to use my stock throttle and clutch controls. David,I might have a st of each,I know I have at least 3 sets of bars,so I will check. |

Thanks all - 'thing and I have a deal. Not specifically looking for clip-ons just wondering if any S2s actually came stock with 'em? Neil were yours OEM? (never mind I just double-checked all the pics in the review and it looks like the stock bars got replaced at some point) Neil - I'll let you know - I want to try the stock bars before I decide if I want to go to clipons. Thanks all

Hi, I am looking at coming to the States in Feb and was hoping to find out some of the better Buell/HD shops around for accesories etc. I will be in Seattle, LA, San Francisco Las Vegas. Any help or direction would be appreciated. Also thinking of hiring a Buell or HD prefer in the Seattle area as I will be staying there the longest. Will it be too cold and snowing there in Feb. Cheers |

Seattle in February can find anything to 60°F to below freezing, from nice early spring weather to ice to snow to rain, the only constant with the weather in Seattle is in the variability. I'd suggest you start with Eastside in Bellevue, a little hard to get to due to the MicroSoft implosion of traffic and business and people, but seemed like a nice shop the last time I was back home there. The other shops in the area I'm too out of date with to comment on. Maybe post your question in the appropriate StormFronts sections and see if any current locals can give better data. |

Notes for Seattle - Stay clear of Cycle Barn in Lynnwood. I don't trust them for service. Too many bad experiences. For great service and people go to Eastside Harley in Bellevue across the lake from Seattle. |

Told my Brother in law about that Blue Moon Beer you shared...I gotta find that stuff around here.Is it seasonal???(that comment invites Ferris's reaction!) reaction? burp! I am looking at coming to the States in Feb... yo Aussie Buell, here's another vote for Eastside Buell, in Bellevue, just east of Seattle. ask for Scott Moon, tell him BADWEB sent you if you make it down to the general San Franciso area by all means visit Darkside Danny at Modesto Buell/Ducati, one of the premier Buell dealerships in all the land. the weather on the west coast in February is, as Mike said above, a mixed bag, so you should be prepared for anything. on average it'll be a little warmer and a little drier the further south you go, but Feb IS still winter after all (up here, anyway), even in California. on your way from Modesto to Vegas be sure to take a lap of the Lake Isabella area, specifically Ferrisville. give me a ping and i'll show you some roads to sigh for. Aussie, While you're in Seattle if you get tired of the rain then hop on a ferry and float across the Sound to Port Townsend, or if the mountain pass is clear head to Lake Chelan (or if you watch Frazier down there "Lake Chelon" ). Both have usually 300 rainless days a year, or there abouts. Little known local secrets so don't tell anybody. |

yo Aussie, part 2: what kind of time do you have heading down the coast, in general, and what kind of riding are you interested in, in general? i ask because i can give some pretty good first-hand route advice on the "best" way to get from point A (Seattle) to point Buell (Ferrisville). FB |

Blue Moon is a Coors product. It's their "wheat" beer, & is not seasonal. Good with a lemon or orange twist. |
