Ah sorry about that it was a 12R. I read it in MCN about three weeks ago but forgot to mention it myself! There was another thing I didn't mention too and something of grave concern to motorcycling in general - the fire that devastated the National Motorcycle Museum here in England back in September. The list of irreplaceable machines destroyed is nothing short of sickening including the 650cc Triumph Streamliner that broke the motorcycle world land speed record - famously inspiring the name of the legendary Triumph Bonneville after the Utah venue where the record was broken. Very sad. Rocket

BattleTrax in Dublin, CA, USA today rocked! special thanks to Reg & Lora Kittrelle and the entire BattleTrax gang, Mike McGuire and his crew from McGuire Harley-Davidson/Buell in Walnut Creek, CA (www.mcguire-hd.com), and the Buell Motorcycle Company for putting this little tire-shredding extravaganza together. it was great to get a grin and a bear hug from near-Governor Woz, and very cool to hook up with Jack Van Voast again, and righteous of EZBlast to come up out of the crowd and say hey. and thank you to Danny and Daphne and their menagerie for putting us up (and putting up with us) last night, and to the very same Danny and the good folks at Modesto Buell/Ducati for showing us a good time (and some killer prices) at their open house and dyno shoot-out yesterday. the weather today in Dublin was PERFECT, there was a great crowd on hand, and the Thong strutted its stuff and made a damn good showing against an army of young guns on Buell XBs, KTM Dukes, and the like. you (i assume you know who you are) REALLY shoulda been there. FB ps: thank you to Denise for being my #1 fan! |

Curse you Mr. Buell for saddling me with this bike that I can't sell. I've got a '99 S3T with 13500 fairly trouble free miles on it. I also keep a second bike of various brands/types on hand, over time, to satisfy different cravings that come along. I recently traded California for Minnesota and an RC51 for a YammieHammer RoadStar. I've discovered a new type of riding - my wife laughs when I tell her - Slowtorcycling! That's what the Yamaha is for. Back to that damn Buell. I've had some great rides on it. Met Mr. Buell on one of the first long distance rides from Phoenix to SantaFe with a good friend on his S3T. Erik was there with a BRAG group out of Albuquerque that is run by a HD dealer. I forget his name at this moment, but he's also a great guy and a friend of Eriks. I was fortunate enough to chase Erik and his dealer friend through some really pleasant mountain roads around SantaFe New Mexico. I watched Eric pass his buddy, casually waving to him one handed on the outside of a 60-in-a-25 left hander. Nobody crossed the centerline, nobody got hurt. If I had to take one hand off the bars in that corner, I wouldn't be writing this now. At dinner that night, I had a chance to talk with Erik about bikes. He's a great guy and wasn't condescending at all. Truly a gentleman enthusiast. I asked him how he knew that a sporty motor could be that much fun, he answered ...... I didn't! This old S3T has seen some other great rides too, once on the way home to Phoenix from Albuquerque, Hwy 40 in the rain, rainsuit on, speedo on 80, cruised the whole way to Flagstaff without missing a beat. One spring ride, with another group out of Phoenix, we abuse the speed limit all day long including a run up the East side of AZ in the White Mountains that was picture perfect, but cold. Cold enough, fortunately to keep my friend Russ's wrist fresh after breaking it in a high-sider that probably saved his life. I remember riding back to where my friends said he was down, with my heart in my throat, hoping he wasn't hurt too badly. That S3T was Russ's second bike, the first being a sporty, and he was just learning to enjoy the outer limits of street sensibility with me and my friends. I think that crash, that he was able to ride home from, (albeit with a broken wrist discovered the next day)saved his life. If he hadn't had that relatively minor high-side, some other corner with a much higher price tag might have punched his ticket. A couple years have past, He called me a few days ago after that BRAG ride in Northern AZ. He had experienced what it's like to ride up to a crash where someone he was trading yuks with a few miles back was dead. He rides a Busa now, and I think he'll probably last a long time. Anyway...... back to this damn Buell I can't seem to lose! On one ride out of Auburn in the CA foothills, I get to spend the day chasing Brad (YellowX1, now red Duc) and his friend (Bob?) down through some awesome roads. Brad and Bob eventually lost my peg-scraping ass. I caught up with them a few miles further where Bob had lowsided his M2 and was surveying the carnage. Bob wanted to keep quiet about his little incident. It was an emmy performance watching him at the next rest stop trying to act like everything was great. He was in a lot of pain with a sore shoulder and had to hang his beat up leather jacket on the back of his bike to hide the damage to the plastic and leather. Great afternoon chasing these guys through some world class roads. Chop and Vik were on that ride, it was good to put faces with names. Oh yeah - the damn Buell I can't seem to sell. Several times I've come to crossroads where it seems the only thing to do is dump the Buell. There's always some other toy that I think I need more. I go ahead and get the new toy, promising the wife that I'll sell that Buell for sure this time. I make feeble hearted attempts to run internet ads here and on the other free venues. Once in a while I run a newspaper or cycle trader ad. I keep dropping the price, and keep getting absolutely no takers. It's like it's cursed, I can't sell it. So here we are, a late October Saturday in Forest Lake, MN. I spend most of the day doing odds n ends from the honey do jar that seems to never empty. Hang this here, move that there, tighten this, call these people etc, etc. So it's about 3:30, 48 degrees and overcast. I decide it's a great time to go for a ride! A good portion of the leaves have fallen, all but the fastest of ducks are dead, and there's only a few more days to sneak a ride in ahead of old-man-winter. I put on the long john's and close the vents on my leather Vanson with Buell on the sleeve and head out to the garage to pick a bike. The Yammie is there in all it's glory, looking cool and laid back in it's white and chrome splendor. And then there's that Buell that I can't sell..... I decide that if the Buell will start (3 yr old battery), it will get the nod for the day. It hesitates a bit, the fuel pump sounding rather asthmatic in it's effort, but finally catches and settles into a very unsteady idle. Kind of like a really good jazz drummer - no discernable beat, but some kind of impossible rhythm. While that old sporty motor works out it's kinks, I chug down a nice hoppy ale and put on my leathers. I know, don't drink and ride, but this is going to be a slow ride and I think I know my limitations. (Good advice from Clint baby). I stretch my body, stiff from all the undergarments under leathers and jeans that don't seem to fit like they used-to anyway, onto that old S3T that I can't sell and stumble down the driveway. The tranny feels like it's filled with molasses but the fuel injection woke up in a good mood and the bike is carbureting (FI'ng?) nicely as I idle out of the neighborhood. I just moved to this neighborhood and haven't really had time to learn my way around the many many miles of undulating two lane blacktop that flows through rolling hills, St.Croix river valley, swamps, lakes, fields and small farm towns. There is very little traffic and my outfit is just on the verge of warm enough to sustain me for an hour's ride. I head north for about 10 miles, enjoying the powerpulses from that lump of an engine as it succumbs to the idea of pulling this bike and rider down the road for a while. The road is unfamiliar, but it's got a nice resume' - two lanes, smooth surface, rolling hills, gently banked corners, picturesque landscape and no traffic. The speed limit varies between 45 and 55 so it feels great betweeen 60 and 80 on that damm bike I can't sell. The air is fresh and cold - I keep checking, hands, feet, chin ...... is it too cold? Naaaaah - I can go an hour, easy. There's woodsmoke with barbeque in the air, and a nice warm, high-cholesterol grease smell from the bar I just passed. The road gets a little more interesting with one of those yellow signs indicating squiggles ahead - why doesn't it just come out and scream "caution, motorcyclists at play". I love those signs! Most of the leaves have surrendered their last gram of chlorophyl and their tenuous grasp on immortality. I can see through the woods two or three corners ahead. I know that there's no oncoming traffic. This is where this fricking beast that I can't sell loves to live! Curves marked 35 mph are easily coasted through at 70 if you bring the front end up a bit with some throttle after braking. In 3rd and 4th gear, between 3 and 6 thousand rpms, this motor is absolutely insatiable. The FI is still in a good mood and the engine is singing a sweet, sweet song of twin cylinder off-beat magic. My ear plugs filter out the spurious Milwaukee clatter, all I hear is rumbling exhaust music as I grin my way along about 20 miles of this autumn orgasm. I come out of my spell as I slow for Marine on St. Croix and a gaggle of SUV's trying to out-bore each other on the way to Stillwater. One last stretch on the way home to let the ponies ramble. I bring it up to 100 gentle and smooth on a long straight, grinning at the wail as I sail through this glorious afernoon on the way back to logic and responsibility that my home and family represents. The last few miles it starts to drizzle so I reign in the rpms and start to think - man, I'm getting cold. The raindrops are turning to ice as I rumble into the drive, letting that damn bike I can't sell idle as I open the garage to park it. The engine relaxes into an intoxicating gentle beat that seems to beg forgiveness. If that damn bike could talk, right now it'd be saying to me, "It's not my fault, I am all I could be". The rain has moistened the bike just enough to allow a clean towel to absorb water and not scratch the paint as I rub off the bugs and grime left over from my last few rides. The deep blue paint with white frame and wheels create a classic look, easy on the eyes, on this damn bike that I can't sell. Curse you Mr. Buell. But I digress.................. |

There seems to be a little confusion on the Akira DVD. I have no way of copying the DVD. What I though you guys wanted was the edit. The edit is just the motorcycle bits with a music background. I ya need the DVD, you can get it at Walmart. The edit fits on a CD. Loved the story from Yardbird. Wish I could write that well... |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guys, I need a favor from someone. The Dept. of Children and Families needs the value of my 2000 M2 before food stamps can be issued to my family. The problem is, it needs to be a low value and on something "official" like Buell or Harley letterhead. Can anyone or does anyone know anyone that can help me? thanks, Ken |

Ferris, All is ok with us at this time. I am still unemployed but I am actively looking daily. I have been doing odd jobs to keep us afloat. My wife and I have talked it over though and have just about decided that I should go back to school and get a degree in a different field. But to do that we may need some assistance and that is why I am asking for a value of my bike. Bomber, the closest dealer is 45 minutes away, maybe the Honda place in town can give me a low-ball quote. Ken

Ken: I'm betting the dealer, any dealer, can get you fixed up. Snag one of the guys here to help, you're busy enough. And.... I spent 8 months unemployed last year; it sucks. The way i got unemployed made it worse..the timing (2 kids in college, fired on my birthday, etc) promoted the entire event to totally sucked. Several of the fellows here played a major role in maintaining my remaining modicum of sanity. I was getting (try being a "Courtney" ) more "you sound cute" offers to meet for drinks, than jobs. Lord knows why....read that LORD part again, but when things turned, they turned well and fast. Today, at 3:30PM, they're continuing to turn for the better. Nothing sustains like friends and family. I need some help in aquiring some oil change supply receipts from either the Reno, NV area or NJ area. To make a long story short, in order to get my money back refund, on the extended warranty I purchased on my 99 X1(Harley had a special deal in 99 that offered money back if you didn't use it) I need to show proof of maintenance, and I can't find all my recipts. I think I must have trashed some during the move. So anybody who could be so kind as to fax or email as attachment any invoices that could help, I would greatly appreciate it. Anything from late 99 to present would be helpful as long as it shows Oil or Filter purchases Fax numbers: NJ Area - 732-605-2539 NV Area - 775-327-6688 Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.
