I wonder if it's a feasibility prototype, lots of those sorts of cars running around Detroit when I go there.
Did you have to wipe the dirt and fog off the windows to see it or were the doors left open?

And even if it is a V-Rod engine it doesn't mean that's what will end up in production in 1-7 years down the road. Anybody peeked through the picket fence at Porsche lately? The number 3 comes to mind for some reason.

Mike...running prototype. No windows to peek in. Either see it on the street or sol.

My feeling based on observations I made is this bike is not very far off. Will it replace the present motor? I dont know.

"My logic...buy the Buell, enjoy the experience, buy another Buell...REPEAT PROCESS"

Great idea Court but I can't bring myself to sell the old ones. Can cause something of a space/cost/relationship issue!!

I feel like shit having served in the military AND paid my way through college.

Like religion, most folks have an opinion about this kind of stuff that emcompasses other values like "what kinda message are you sending?".

I did most my "teaching", the good and the bad, years ago. The sole message I have for them now is "I love you" (a great way to embarras a kid at parents day) the rest of the stuff is pretty much ancillary at this point but I will say they are two of my best friends.

Erik and I, during a quiet moment at the 20th, had a good giggle about how our kids have turned out so much damned smarter than we did. The last picture I have of Bryce and Erik's oldest was when they were 3' tall. He's 6'3" now and she's just back from "total language immersion" in Spain to continue some sort of genetic research neither Erik or I have the capacit to comprehend.

Yeah....if i had a kid now, I'd tell him "start a motorcycle company or become a construction worker if you want an easy life".

Until you sort out, in your own mind, where you are in all this, I'd submit the "I love you" makes a great strategy in the interim....but, hey...that's just me.

When I worked at a flour mill in Seattle in the early 1970's I worked next to a guy with his PhD in Philosophy. Couldn't get a tenure position so ended up filling sacks with pancake mix and sewing them shut.

Sometimes it's not so much what the degree is in, sometimes it's more what you do with what you learned along the way that counts and how well you can provide what a customer or employer is looking for. I've worked with people with diplomas in technology and CAD training who had trouble typing their names on a computer, and with non-degreed designers who were training fresh graduates from Master Degree engineering programs in how to design parts for the real world instead of working to raw theory. I've also worked with a few PhD in Engineering types who while engineering stuff that makes the math posted on the site here at times look like kindergarten could also enjoy the simple things in life.

What you do is more important than what you've got, but sometimes people need to see what you've got before they'll let you do what you can do. Sort of a catch-22 type of deal I guess. At least I'm still living in the dash phase of life.

By the way, that post is not directed at anybody. I've met more Buell folks in person than you average Joe and have feel qualifed to qualify the above by saying that this would be one of the last places I'd need to give that lecture.

Kids who's Dad's ride motorcycles tend to have pretty close relationships it seems.

Doesn't anybody work while going to college any more??? I know of one. She worked through school, graduated cum loude and debt free from the University of Alabama, broke the federal employment code, and less than six months after graduating had a federal career. I'm proud of my daughter.

Speaking of job opportunities and what to do with useless degrees - the Border Patrol is always hiring and to them a 4year degree = 4years experience when raise time comes around (regardless of your major)

Then maybe you could ride dirtbikes around SoCal, escort people back to the border and catch bandits.

AND Mom's !!!!

I'm of the same mind as Court, I just let em know I love them, and as long as they are happy, I'm happy, and yeah if I can spoil em I do !!

One went to college and the other the service, now both work in the same field and the one in the service is working on the same degree the other got in college !!

And they are both good, intelligent kids, wouldn't trade them for the world !!

Ahhhhh turned into a kids thread,

I have a 12yr old daughter who thinks she is 16 and already eyeing the S1. Damm child can actually hold it up.

I have a 7yr old boy who absolutely loves his Honda dirt bike more than life itself, he even wears his DOT approved dirt bike helmet on his bicycle. Damm boy is crazy on it too. He learned that if he holds the shifter down in between 1st and 2nd, gasses it then lets the shifter go it will wheelie a little.

The 5 year old that seem to want more power for a Suzuki 50cc quad and a 4yr old who only last week thought that some kind of monster had his bike (another Suzuki Quad) by the wheels when he drove it into some thick brush and got the rear wheels off the ground.

The boys are priceless and all my kids have been riding since they are 3years old.

Last week the boys had Thursday and Friday off from school so I took two days off work and we went riding for two days up at my parents home on the coast.

Me on my fathers utility quad (Yamaha Big Bear), a Honda Z50 and two Suzuki 50cc quads. I would not trade those times for anything in the world. And every now and then I'd hear the "I love you Dad".

\soapbox mode{on}Speaking from the point of view of someone who worked his way through engineering school (and borrowed money as well), the conclusion that I've reached is this: Tuition is an investment. If you put it toward a career that traditionally has a market (in my case, engineering), it will have payback. If you go to college to take up space (and that's NOT NASA!)because you don't know which end of your life is "up", then that's a poor investment. If you pay your kids' way through college, and they are meandering amongst majors, trying this and that, it's a waste of your money. I say help them out with living expenses, but get them fiscally involved with their future; they'll be more inclined to make it pay off when they graduate. The really unfair thing is this apparent mandate that kids must go to college to even get a job at McMuck's! Is this because the first two years are spent learning the things that they were supposed to learn in the last two years of high school? \soapbox mode{off}

Arvel,
"Don't forget to factor centrifugal (yes I said centrifugal) force into the equation. It tends overcome the reduction in radius caused by CONTACT PATCH deformation. Especially at high speeds."

The rearward weight transfer due to aerodynamic drag effects is probably equally or more significant than the centrifugal effect acting to try to expand the tire. Neither is close to equaling the force acting to compress the tire at the contact patch.
