Congrats all. What? Glad Henrik made it after all. Peter is there? Yeah, how is the Snail doing with the GSXR? Congratulations to all the record setters. Way to go. "Id like to hear what kinda times that Yamaha warrior is running." Dyna, it ain't a drag race. |

Snail ran 172 against a 182 record is what I heard. Yes, Peter is here and he made the 150 club! His backup pass was 153mph. PaulinOZ has now taken over the controls of the M2 from Peter and is going for 150 club status. Correction Court ... Richard set the 1350cc M-PF record aboard Susan's S1, at 166.9mph. This is the motor you helped with. It was done on gasoline but no nitrous or anything, and no windscreen either. He's now going after the 166.590 M-PG record of 166.590 held by Carl somebody, never heard of the guy. |

OK fella's, not to open a can of worms, but looking for opinions on Air filters. I have a 1998 Thunderbolt which is sitting at Destination HD for a 10k service. A Vance and Hines slip on is going on. I live in Seattle and ride year round. As in rain rain rain. I am going to have either a force or Buell oval Air filter, who likes what? Any huge difference? thanks for all advice etc. |

f1johny, i ran a force filter on my m-2. it was ok but did not like the rain! seemed like i would forget the sock until the motor quit revving. switched to the buell race filter setup. the k@n filter is wide enough that about an inch of it shows and therefore catches rain. i try to keep some duct tape on the bike so i can cover the leading edge of the filter in the rain. with the rain your talking about i would'nt recommend either one! |

From www.saltflats.com Saturday Sept 20, 2003 Today at Bonneville the weather was again, perfect. It simply doesn't get any nicer. The days high was about 85, with no clouds, and sunny blue skies. Racing action was suplemented by an airshow based out of the Wendover airport. As I write this at about 5:00pm, the vehicles in Dan Warners impound department are: Cars Casey Clark # 217 AA/BGL 310.149 Andy Flagg #2201 F/PRO 165.800 Jorgen Moller #56 D/BSTR 193.332 Red Mathel #1940 XF/BVCC 136.743 Motorcycles Joe Amo #268B MPS/BF 1000 213.624 Cliff Gullett #7911B MPS/PF 2000 155.255 James Higgins #1875 MPS/BG 123.699 Allan Galbraith #1747 M/PF 250 77.123 Dray German #2501 SC/PF 500 95.463 Tom Habrzyk #887 P/P 650 159.771 Ron Jay M/PG 250 80.??? The results of yesterdays "Horsepower Wars" in the M/PG 250 Motorcycle class, were a classic Bonneville story. Both racers set recoreds in that class on their return runs this morning. First Ron Jay on the harley 250 Sprint ran and raised the record to 71+ MPH. Then less than an hour later, Allan Galbraith on the Triumph Trophy 250 raised that record to 79+ MPH. Again tonite, both bikes were in impound. However, Allan Galbraith had changed classes to the fuel class. Ron Jay arrived in impound late in the day with a qualifying speed of over 80 MPH. If he can raise the M/PG 250 Record to 80+ MPH, we can be sure to see Allan Galbraith return to the gas class, to continue the battle. It has been an amazing display of both sportsmanship and racing tenacity to watch this classic Bonneville class duel in a small displacement class for what are esentially obsolete engine designs. This story isn't over yet.

F1Johny... Seattle?! Ha! Rochester N.Y. is just as wet, (& MONTHS of snow as well) I run a gutted stock airbox. If you can stand the looks, it works well in the rain. Remove snorkel tube, use K&N stock replacement filter, reroute head breather lines to catch can, add venturi ring P/N 29179-88 & re jet as needed. There is also a trick using the snorkel, modified with a K&N conical filter in the airbox, plugging the resonance holes. If you run a Force, make SURE to read Aarons notes in the knowledge vault. edited by aesquire on September 21, 2003 edited by aesquire on September 21, 2003 |

Virus warning: Are there still IE users without updated virus protection ? Some of those careless individuals will be tempted then to execute the "protection file" send them by "Microsoft", (complete with original Logos and working links.) I got this morning 11 of that letters with the .exe file with the WORM.AUTOMAT.AHB virus. Take care. Hans |

thanks for the words and pix from the Salt, guys, give 'em heck today! FMJ took Snail's new Gixxer Thou for a spin out on Highway 101 during Four-Play in July, and came back all wide-eyed and adrenalized, shaking his head in disbelief. i asked him what he thought of Paul's new toy, and the first three words out of his mouth all started with "F". "Didya see God?", i asked. "Yeah, I PASSED Him!!!" FB |

Receiving most interesting garbled transmissions from The Bonneville Salt Flats.....apparently....Josh is telling us only PART of the story. It seems, absent my presence as the moral compass of the group, that havoc and debauchery have ensued. I am tasking a satallite into a geosynchronous orbit to gather info...

This aint going into the KV, just a comment on the XB rocker box mod. Since going to this set-up on my S1, I am very pleased. Very minimal, if any puking has occurred. Even with the lines routed down and away it does not even show a puddle after being parked. This should be listed as a "must do" for the tubers. Sometime this week I will post my install concerns in the KV. loki |

Sporadic reports are coming in from EIT (Elves in Transit). Initial reports are that record breaking was a struggle due to salt conditions resulting in poor traction. The one thing that is clear that a GREAT TIME was had by all. More pictures (at higher resolution) than you can shake a stick at will be available soon as well as video. Eager to hear from Aaron & Co. Court |

Quick report ... the S1 has been torn down and had it's M-PF record certified. Developed a problem that prevented us from continuing to pursue the M-PG record, although it clearly showed it could do it. After a starting line mishap, the RR is no longer contending for a record, but we're still running it and having a great time. I personally took it over 175 today, as did Peter, Paul may get on it tomorrow. What a hoot, that thing is a monster. Ray bagged himself another record this morning as did others. FMJ has bikes in impound tonight. Gotta go to dinner. |

Broken front Engine Mount Bolt in Head.. Help. I was working on the S3 today and noticed that the front left motor mount bolt was missing. Well, it ain't missing, it's broken off in the head I know this is a not uncommon failure. Anyone have any experience fixing it? Do I need to remove the head to remove the broken bolt, or have people had any success removing the broken bolt with an easy out while the head is still on the engine and the engine still in the frame? If yes, did you need to remove the forks for working access on the front of the engine to do it? Bummer, this looks like a real bear to fix. Any advice appeciated. If there is something in the archives that someone could point me to, that would be cool. Al |

Al: The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I also had a secondary failure of the right mount: There are several open questions on this bolt failure, but the repair of the sheared off bolt is a fairly straight forward drill and "EZ OUT" procedure. Questions: How many others have had this type of failure? Model? Year? Mileage? Usual Load (2 up, rider weight, touring)?, Type of use (wheelies, stoppies)?, suspension modification (rebuilt front forks, rear shock)?, heads ever removed prior to failure (bolts ever replaced)? Is there a higher quality bolt available that will not fail? The OEM bolt is a grade 8 plus 20% fastener (f911 brand). Does the OEM bolt have a failure mode that can be identified from data? Should these bolts be replaced as a routine preventative maintenance precedure? Should this be included in the "Conventional Wisdom" articles? Is it worthy of a treatment similar to that of the "Showa Shock Report"? You have mail. Don S3 Conventional Wisdom Article - Click Here S2 Conventional Wisdom Article - Click Here |

2003 Blast! bolt failure statistics for me: (The failing bolt is on the front left side of the head.) #1: 7K #2: 8K #3: 15K The first two were done under warranty. #1 was replaced with a #11 bolt, and #2 was a #8 bolt. #3 is the exact bolt in the parts list for replacement, which is a superceded part number. We'll see how long this bolt lasts. |

F1Johnny, I rode the with an uncovered force 20 miles in a nasty rain a couple days ago, then in light rain today. No issue, bike runs better, and looks better imho. I have the injected model tho, so your mileage will vary. Oh yeah, I'm in Rochester NY also, so its cold and it rains Good luck Matt 2001 X1 |

Court: You can DEMAND all you want, but I haven't been seen in full cowboy regalia since Roy and Trigger were appearing on b&w TV! You'll have to settle for this: Just for the record, I AM wearing boots in that picture, which was taken at the B-ville starting line yesterday morning. I got pressed into service as crew for Jack Christer, a Swede racing out of LA on a turbo'd GSXR 750. He's hoping to be the first guy to go 200 on an un-streamlined 750. He's been 193 on the bike, but the best run I saw him make was 179.9something, still 3 mph over the record. I had to leave this morning before his backup run, so I don't know how it turned out. Did I have a good time on the salt? I think the picture says it all! It was great to put faces with all the names I've been reading here for the last few years. What a great bunch of people. I'll be posting more pics soon. r-t ps--Ask Paulinoz how he tried to get us thrown in jail in Wendover... |

There is now a Mecca for ALL two wheeled enthusiasts. It is the Barber museum outside of Birmingham, AL. As Rall aptly stated “This place gives me goose bumps all up and down my arms, it’s so awesome!” Every 2 wheeled vehicle and competition motorcycle you have read about or dreamed about is likely to be there. They have 9 Buells on display or in the works (but whose counting). Neil S. |
