Quick update: I'M STILL IN IOWA!!! At this point I am looking at jobs and real estate. Now I know how those little towns in the middle of nowhere started. All kidding aside, Waterloo HD/Buell cycle center has still not received the head from HD so they are tearing apart a shorwroom floor bike to get the parts. At this point, they are doing everything that they can to get me back on the road. My bike should be done today, and I'll be putting some shakedown miles on the bike before I make a Bonzai run back to Cali tomorrow morning. |

Not Buell, but.... all the new 2004 H-D bikes are up on the minimally revamped HD website. Go see the new colors! Lava Red Sunglo, Impact Blue, etc. Alas, no touring V-Rod...yet. |

Jprovo...That is good news. Now just take it easy on the new head and you will be home in time for your anniversary. Well, maybe Halloween, eh? Sparky...That is the way I recall my last visit to traffic school. Agree with your approach to lane sharing. Thirty years of doing it in La La Land and it seems like a second nature. Hootowl...Thanks for the update. I still get Free2Wheel and read the Sargent's column a few months back concerning the issue. Of interest a friend got a ticket for lane sharing in San Francisco on a single lane going up one of those miserable hills. Judge dismissed the ticket when he saw my friend show up with a copy of the CA Motor Vehicle Code. Man was the cop red faced! Court...CB-1 has an ugly power band. Much prefer Erik's philosophy of "Real Bikes for the Real World." Agree that if filtering results in a clog that the rider should be cited. Guess in LA that means holding up traffic in an accident. Also, though it was legal for cabs to do what ever they want in NYC. Really enjoyed double and triple parking. Heck we even quad parked in front of Lou Ferigno's (sp?) Gym in Brooklyn. Note: I let my local sales reps do the driving in NYC. Even then it makes lane splitting blind folded on LA's 405 seem like a piece of cake. Bomber...You have truly out done yourself this time. LMAO |

Imagine what I could do if I only were to apply myself! (and, yes, my 1st, 2nd, 3rd . . . . . .grade teachers would agree) rational traffic lawas that are vehicle specific would be a great boon to humankind . . .sounds like their further down that path in Europe than here ('course, they seem to take driving more seriously there, as well) . . . . Bomber...Free2Wheel is a free monthly So Cal biker mag that is distributed at the dealerships and local hangouts. All kinds of bikes, routes and trips. Is really a neat publication. Will bring you a few issues next time we meet. |

Hi Tripper: Now I see what you meant: "The subject was activated again when I turned the key" I really understood that you (doing software maintenance for the board) switched it off, and that it was apparently a mistake. The stupid sign was meant for myself because I am lost every time, trying to remember the subject when reading messages in the middle of multiple opened windows. Have to scroll then up, while in the passed the name of the thread was represented on the bar, below the screen, which stays now empty. Hans |

I've got a '95 S2 that's been a great runner. It just recently started giving me trouble. While riding, the bike will suddenly loose power, and drop to idle. While doing this, the tach will jump around from 1000 to 8000 rpm even though the engine is barely idling. I give it gas and it tries to run up but sounds like it's only one cylinder. If I turn the bike off and wait a minute and turn it back on, it runs fine. This has been happening for about two weeks intermittantly and is happening more often. Last night it happened for the first time at night. When it happened, my lights and gauge lights dimmed, until it started running right again. I'm not sure if this is a short, an electronic problem, an ignition problem, or if my plugs could be causing a problem. I've got 144,000 miles on the bike, with about 8000 on a new top end that has been blowing oil on the front cylinder. I clean the front plug about every 500 miles and wonder if it has anything to do with this. It really seemed like the problem was the ignition, until I saw the lights dimming last night. Now I'm not sure. The bike is carburated, has stock ignition. Any ideas anyone? |

Bart, S-2's have a bank of circuit breakers in back of the battery.I have had both of mine do weird things as a result of these getting too much exposure to weather etc.Mine both would drop a cylinder and tach would drop to 1/2 speed and then suddenly pick back up again.Kinda like you loaded up and cleaned out.The 2 closest to the left side are ignition related and I replaced both--instant cure.Any auto parts store will have them.Try that, its sounds similar. |

Bartimus, the ground cable at your battery may be intermittent. I have had similar symptons until I learned the way of routing the batery cables so that they stand up to the vibration. |

FireManJim & Tripper, Thanks for the info, I will check into it. I thought about the CB's but not the ground cable. I'll be glad if that's all it is. The miles have been great, I'm looking forward to the Torquefest this october, and hope to take the S2. |

Buell Schmuell As always on a nice long ride my S2 still gets lots of attention at gas and rest stops. I got the bike against warnings of poor performance etc and I have now 3 summers riding on it and it never fails to amaze me. Today I made sure the tank was full on my way out of town on a ride from Portland Oregon too Prineville Oregon. In Sisters Oregon I put in 1.71 gallons of fuel to top off the tank with the odometer showing 156 miles. At home the odometer showed 159.6 miles since the fuel stop in Sisters, this fill required 1.81 gallons, the speed was up with the traffic with most the time the speed indicated was around 70 MPH. Anyone who would think about economy and POWER need look no further than a good old Buell. You do the math !.........Jim |

Bartimus, If it turns out to be a busted negative battery cable, buy one from a 2000 m2. My cable broke on my S2 a year ago and I replaced it with the M2 Cable. It is a direct fit and is much more flexible which should help prevent it from breaking again. Carl |

Yeesh. That IS good gas mileage, Buellgatti. On my M2 171 miles I'm hitting reserve, or darn close! Keep having fun. As I rode mine yesterday I was reminded of the riding position and stability of my old BSA A10, and it was like old times for me. Then I twisted the throttle and things changed! Squashed the front brake as I passed 100 mph, and was awakened by the progressive feel of the brake. This is my idea of the perfect motorcycle, even if it isn't competitive with the Japanese. Good torque, unhurried motor, excellent handling, good brakes, comfortable riding position (even if it does shift on the wrong side, a set of Banke Performance rear sets w/ reverse "GP" pattern shifter make it *almost* right!). I don't see myself selling this bike even if I do get another. STubb. |

Where could an enterprising young Bonneville racer such as myself find a RR1000-ish front fender. Dont need a RR1000 fender, just one that is sorta like it, ya know, comes down to a line drawn horizontally through the front axle, and leaves 180 degrees of the front wheel visible, but yet covers the entire front of the tire, and keeps the whole front wheel nice and streamliney? Anyone know of a bike that has/had a similar front fender? And where one can be found? Short of that, anyone know where I can find an ACTUALL RR1000 front fender? Replica or aftermarket preferably, as it will get cut up to fit our race bike. No time to fabricate one up, just looking for something that works

The RS1200 is not similar to the RR fender. I'll check to see if I can locate a "cut upable" spare. |

Any twin tails out there with a corbin? I am wondering if it's worth the $350 investment. I have put corbins on all my other bikes and have been quite pleased. My twin tail seat is my only real dissatisfaction with my S1W. There aren't any other options are there? Thanks! Danny |

I don't seem able to post in the engine section so forgive me, but I have not been able to find any clear info regarding just doing stage 1 head work. The only performance mods I have now are pro-series pipe, forcewinder and jetting, but interested in more power on a budget. I will probably stick with stock cams because I don't run it out that much. I am just looking for an idea of what increases can be had, how much labor time would be involved, and whether the heads alone is worth the cost. I have seen all the 120+ hp dyno charts, but nothing regarding the budget stuff. TIA |

Danny, The Corbin Twin tail seat is more comfortable for both the rider and the passenger. However, the thing is brutally ugly, if you ask me. The shape of the pillion completely ruins the lines of the tail of the S1. Now, if you had Corbin make a twintail S1 seat that had the rider section the same as the twin tail Corbin, but then faired the pillion into the tail like the single seat Corbin, that would be a winner. If you're not in a hurry and have the money, they'll do it. I have the stock S1W seat, a Travelcade/saddlemen seat, and a Corbin. Even though the Travelcade has more padding, I find the Corbin to be more comfortable. Al edited by al_lighton on September 04, 2003 |

Al is 100% correct, Again. But if you want to RIDE your S1, there is no alternative. It looks better when you set your ass in it and ride. edited by tripper on September 03, 2003 |
