Chop, Up in Auburn there used to be a shop 5 years or so ago that was converting from antiques to antique bikes, I want to say it was called Hobby Horse Antiques, or Rocking Horse Antiques. Anyway, it was between the prospecting supply shop and the old post office across the street from where the J.C.Pennys used to be. I think it was on High Street. The guy there, if he's still there, may be able to help you, or not. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?size=big&mapdata=xU4YXdELrnDc9%2fA5dOD4Fpsm iBw143%2bjgzsO1cxUe8Q5lRY0pDklJgoizLPKqhZmiLk8BPCQ1Gpdx5dh%2b4NDfkJZC9N7YBCMFu2H soLVgQBzRktC07LGwthXSbpT313ZJtW2FabxtWZ51DFkw0VIkiwO7HUgcNViMyR3SOXYgqu%2brCiGHG RaYi8i5DhQFfc4eWDdylAI1Ct47xhCiD8BlLMDd8MPXy1u%2booxZkvQakKW%2fPS2PtCO4RInIqMUoZ 0OHJQiWMYs7D5qJz5svzFPvT2VP9RQLjRRLEQ0K81%2fAq5XllY3472AumrNQ1hmJ2qVfjzUQsZ6%2bX zZA0C7d8hrYNrsjuUgb5ic1OSjQQc3W7c%3d |

DAve; good idea about Wheels Through Time. I went there on a trip this summer. Absolutely a Must if you're even close. An actual functioning museum, where the employees are more than happy to start up a bike or two for you. They even let one visitor take an old panhead out for a spin in the parking lot since he used to own one. If anyone would have parts or at least know sources, it'd be them. Chop, if Dale doesn't have what you need, call Ed at the American Classic Motorcycle Museum in Ashboro, NC. http://www.visitnc.com/hrt/hrt_property_detail.asp?propertyid=1209 Good luck. |

Are the rear brakes somewhat lame on buells or do I have a problem? There doesn't seem to be much action in the lever, and when I apply it, it barely slows the bike down under the hardest pressure. I haven't bled it, but there doesn't seem to be any leaks. BTW, it is on an S1 that has very low milage.....does sitting cause any brake issues???? I did look in the vault, but didn't see anything on brakes. Thanks for your time and help! Danny Could somebody tell me where the correct place in the KV would be for this? I really did look.... edited by dwike on July 28, 2003 |

Danny, The rear brake on every Buell I've ridden is pretty weak. It's that way by design (I've heard anyway). You should change the fluid anyway. It doesn't wear out but it does absorb moisture. It may help a bit but don't expect a huge change. You may want to consider changing brake pads. Better move this to the proper KV forum. Blake's gonna get us..... Brad

Danny, The majority of your breaking is usually done with the front brakes, the rear brakes are there for setting up the bike into a corner. You can lock up a rear tire on a Buell or other brand of motorcycle but this often leads to some very unsecure handling. There was a gentleman in the Carolina's region that sold a rear brake upgrade kit to add more stopping power to them for those who wanted this. The only real times I rely on or use my rear brakes much is on gravel or dirt roads, on snow or ice, in some rain conditions and road surfaces, and when stopped on an uphill section of roadway, or when heading into a corner. Beyond that the rear brake is used either in conjunction with the front brake, or is just a toe rest. |

Blasterd, Same thing happened to me. I thouht it might be because my rear axle was not in alignment so I bought a dial caliper and got the two sides within 0.04 inch and it still squeeled. I put a little Armor All on the sides of the belt and it went away. Magic? I don't know but it worked. |

I was 18 years old and in Da Nang, Vietnam, when I saw two of Bob Hope’s incredible Christmas shows (1966 and 1967). I was one of the lucky few that got to shake his hand after the show. A butt-load of us stood out in the freaking hammering rain for hours just to see him. I will never forget him and the happiness he brought to everyone. There aren't many people in this world I have absolute respect for, Bob Hope was one of them! He was a genuine American patriot and an inspiration to all that saw his shows. -JW: |

Blastard. Make sure it's really your belt. Pull the belt off the pully, put the tranny in neutral, and spin the engine sprocket. See if it still squeaks then, and REALLY HOPE A LOT that it does not, it could be the 5th gear assembly internal bearings (among other things). If it does squeak with the belt off, I would be suspicious of the bearings in your 5th gear drive assembly (which I think is similiar on the blast to my Cyclone). An ugly and expensive job on the tubers, even worse on a blast. |

Danny, The rear brake sucks. Make sure your front brake works well. It's the only one you got.

Funny how some folks say the brake sucks & others think its fine. The rear brake on my X1 is one of the few things that worked well. I could stop the bike easily with it. Had plenty of feel & control with it. Could lock it up if I wanted to. Maybe the folks having rear brake issues are also the same people that are having tranny & primary pukeage issues all over the rear end? |

Well... I think the back brake works just fine, thank you very much. I use it every day. Keeps me from rolling down hill at the stoplight near work...

Rear Brake . . .. mine (Y2K M2) was awful . .. bled it repeatedly, no change, changed pads, no change, cursed the designer, the present administration, and the local school board, no change removed the caliper, cleaned the hole in the forward portion of the caliper when the pin slides in and out, allowing said caliper to move back and forth, all of a suddenly, I got rear brake! I used a .32 bore bruch (brass)and flushed the daylights out of the bore with contact cleaner, but anything shy of a .45 would likely work . . . I then covered the pin with never-sieze check yours, you may find similar levels of spooge . . . . cheap and easy fix for a problem that should have occured . . . . btw, that was 15K miles ago . . . .still workin like a champ |

Neil... I'm looking at getting a van and moving down by the river...possibly a motivational speaker gig. How is the S2? Happy camper? Maybe mine needs that same action to justify a Nallins top end? My gut tells me I'd like to get deep into turning around a "H-D oh and Buell" dealership into a "Buell and H-D" dealership. I guess enthusiasm for the Buell line will only get me so far. We'll see... Right now I'm staying here in the flatlands. (The military will move me up to a few years after I get out since I have kids in school) A couple perspective IT jobs here at Scott AFB or in St Louis but nothing solid as of right now. I'd really like to move to a state with mountains...oh and beaches... and no taxes... oh and beautiful women ... oh and and and ..... Sunn battery was selling on Ebay. Excellent people as ya said Neil DAve |

Anyone have another source for a similar 90 degree fitting to Buell/HDs #29390-96Y? They want $10.80 a piece for the thing. If I can't find a sub, I'll make my own. |

AW, I'd get the chrome banjo fitting like you get in the Screaming Eagle and off-brand aircleaner and breather kits. I don't think I have the part #s handy but the hollow bolt and banjo + 2 washers shouldn't be too much. |

Custom Chrome setup w/Banjos and bolts and such was approx $20 . . . . . anneal the copper washers after every thrid or fourth tightening, and use liquid teflon tape (how's that for an oxymoron?), and the seepage will be minimal to non-existant btw, price is 2 years old |

A man is stranded on a desert island, all alone for ten years. One day, he sees a speck in the horizon. He thinks to himself, "It's not a ship." The speck gets a little closer and he thinks, "It's not a boat." The speck gets even closer and he thinks, "It's not a raft." Then, out of the surf comes this gorgeous blonde woman, wearing a wet suit and scuba gear. She comes up to the guy and she says, "How long has it been since you've had a cigarette?" "Ten years!" he says. She reaches over, unzips a waterproof pocket on her left sleeve and pulls out a pack of fresh cigarettes. He takes one, lights it, takes a long drag and says, "Man, oh man! Is that good!" Then she asks, "How long has it been since you've had a drink of whiskey?" He replies, "Ten years!" She reaches over, unzips her waterproof pocket on the right, pulls out a flask and gives it to him. He takes a long swig and says, "Wow, that's fantastic!" Then she starts unzipping this long zipper that runs down the front of her wet suit and she says to him, "And how long has it been since you've had some REAL fun?" And the man replies, "My God! Don't tell me you've got a motorcycle in there!"

I then covered the pin with never-sieze I like silicone dielectric grease for brakes because it handles the temp well plus it's not that messy. I think Ford actually recommends it for brakes, not to mention plug boots, connectors etc. |

Yeah, and the newest trick is the warning from a falsified Paypal, that you have to revitalize you sleeping membership. You will get the message in your mailbox. It is done cleverly, with the Paypal logos and all. You have to confirm your address, password and of course your credit card number. That the date of the expiring membership is called september 31 gives it away. Just their too big greediness to have one more day to collect money. Beware. Hans |

Chop, This morning I checked an old catalog ('97) while over at a friends house from Dave Sarafan (sent you the phone number yesterday). The trans was going for $1,000.00 back then. Never had a problem finding or getting anything from him in the past. -JW:> |

I'm leaving for Sturgis, SD today. Five of us are riding our scooters out there. We plan on riding to Indianapolis, IN today, Sioux Falls, SD tomorrow, then across SD to Spearfish, SD Friday. It's my first trip out there. I figure we'll have 4000 miles in our saddle by the time we get home next Saturday. We're taking a different route back. Hopefully, we'll have good weather and good luck. |
