Well, I went to Halshd.com and halspa.com thinking I'd find a pic of the XB fully faired bodywork they have hanging on their wall for sale, but when I did a search on Buell under accessories while looking for the bodywork all I got was : "Your search returned no results, please try again." Oh well....  | ||

Anyone notice that the R's mirrors appear to have longer stems. Warranty on the XB9's is also upped to two years. That black XB12R is calling to me. | ||

I like both the Red and the Black colors. Looks really good. I wish Buell all the luck....Can't wait till 2005. Also wonder if there is a new sporting vrod in our future? | ||

Looks Like Buell basically reverted back to the Sportster motor specs as far as bore & stroke, though a tad more bore for 1203 cc's. Anyone see what the Revving spec was on the 12R's? A lot less than it's 1000 cc little brother I suppose. 2 year warranty...finally..I still can't believe folks buy 20 grand Big twins with a 1 year warranty....maybe Buell will rub off on big brother HD with the warranties. I sure could own one of these new Buell's, but after seeing where the pricing went on 1000 Firebolts..I think I'd wait a year or so...plus gotta see what the "New Sportster" may be made of. There are oxides produced if there is oxygen present during the welding process. Any oxygen at any percentage will form on the cooling metal, or in the Heat Affected Zone (next to the fussion zone). This is why any oxides present during the welding process will contaminate the weld. Internal cleaning is the only way I know of to eliminate oxides present on the inside of a weld. Outgassing can only occur if there is any substance present that can be liberated. Oxides can be liberated if the flow of product is abrasive in nature. D.I. Water will attack Stainless Steel because it has an affinity for everything. It grabs what it can, where it can. Particle counts in a High Purity system (like in the Semiconductor facilities) will tell if a line is clean but not at the molecular level. Welds shouldn't out-gas, but oxides may be liberated during the process of flow, either a gas, or a liquid. I be stumped , -JW:>  | ||

Holy @#$%#$@!!!! I could not be more impressed with what I have read about the new dogs!! Sure, anyone can fantasize about Buells with insane numbers that no factory would ever mass produce, but THESE bikes now actually exist, and I am very optimistic about what they might do in the real world. Waiting for the first road tests in the magazines is going to kill. Does anyone know how soon we will see them in the showrooms? This is coming from an S1 guy, who is feeling an overpowering pull towards the XB12's. It's funny, the XB9's never really grabbed me by the balls like these 12's are. It will be fun when new guys/girls start joining the Buell clubs on these things. Who knows anything about the butterfly in the exhaust? Could this feature accentuate the already impressive low end grunt that makes Buells so irresistable? I really need to settle down... breathe PS no smart remarks BuellieDan hahaha | ||

Jim, I was under the impression that anything liquid (molten metal included) would absorb a certain percentage of the local atmosphere. Hop dip galvanizing is notorious for outgassing. Cannot paint it unless it has been treated extensively or sat for a long time. I don't think welds are any different. Over time the gasses will disipate, but higher temperatures accelerate their release. | ||

Spent about 5 hours today and yesterday screwing around with a CNC water jet machine. What an impressive piece of equipment! Cut a few pieces of artwork out of ½” and ¾” thick glass, some 3” thick S.S plate, some high dollar ¼” cobalt plate, some brass, flagstone (totally impressive) and carbon steel plate. Wow, I want one of these puppies. Can’t believe the guy that owns the machine spent so much quality time with me. I drew quit a few things up for him in AutoCAD at no charge so I suppose he’s returning the favor.  -JW:>O | ||

Blake, Dunno, no big deal, just never heard of it welding wise in 35 years. Of course that doesn't mean a damn thing either. I've welding a ton of galvanized rigwall piping over the years too. Now that I think about it I have heard of outgassing in beryllium coppers and vanadium alloys but nothing else. Of course outgassing is a well known problem in the semiconductor arena but not from welding. Dunno, -JW:> | ||

OK, If the weld has porosity,and there can be some and pass inspections, the paint(or oil /anything else) will get in there and cause problems with the powder coat. Just like pin holes in fiberglass that get oil/wax in them and cause problems in paint. | ||

Jim I was simply bringing to Joel's attention that porosity (if indeed we’ve identified it as porosity) isn't acceptable to any degree (like none, no can have, not acceptable, nada). It’s also fairy tale that an electrode (welding rod) is porous therefore causing the porosity. I don’t buy the story about the welds outgassing either but then again I’m not a metallurgist. Instead I think the metal is contaminated or something therefore not allowing it to take the electrical charge. Dunno, -JW:> | ||

Steve Ford, Weird you mentioned you owned a powder coating business at one point in time. I would think its’ a pretty damn lucrative business. The guy I’ve been dealing with for years has always been ridiculously busy. I love just going to his shop and looking at “what's” being powder coated. A ton of ideas just setting there and it gives you an idea of what’s hot in the marketplace. Seems to me there isn’t a whole ton of knowledge necessary either compared to the financial rewards. The only tough part I see is getting the permits and finding a large enough wheelbarrow to carry the money to the bank (at least in my neck of the woods). -JW:>O | ||

Jim, I just don't feel comfortable on the "S". Bars are too close. I'd like to try one that have the bars at the same height, but further forward like they are on the "R". For me the "R" is more comfortable stock. | ||

Quick question. I have a 98 S1W (actually pick it up in 9 days 8 hours and 56 minutes)and I am looking to put a K&n filter setup that a guy has made for his X1 fuel injected buell and i was wondering if a venturi ring part # 29719-88 will bolt to a 98 S1? If not, does the carburetor have a flange? If so, what is the outside diameter? Thanks in advance! Danny | ||
