Anybody watch the NHRA races last night? The V & H's Pro Stock Harley/VRod made it to the finals.
Pretty impressive, running high 7.1's/180's.

Dyna

They got an offer they couldn't refuse from a car dealer who wants the space . . . .

altghough WE are surprised and bummed, imagine the employees (some very long term) who got a day's notice, including one of the owners' kids who helped run the joint . . .. . ah well

Are they closing up shop, or just relocating?
Sometimes those deals that can't be refused have underlaying incentives. (Did the place own the property, or lease the property? There is possibly more to the story, or not.)

FTD,
That's great news. Just to clarify, when you say they made the "finals" you mean they placed 2nd or 1st right? Second if they lost, 1st if they won the final?

It still irks me that they call that thing a V-Rod. It is more closely related to a Buell or a Sportster than any V-Rod.

Pammy mentioned:

John Noonan, affectionately re-named, by me, "Disco John"(he knows why) has a LOT of contacts. He runs in the right circles to rub elbows with all the motorcycle industry people. He is very persistant.

Humm,

But .... I "thought" WE had all the contacts, ran in the right circles and rubbed elbows with the right folks too (like in also) ... guess I'm just part of the delusional and gullible crowd.

In a nut shell, they own the property, decided its time to retire, got an ofter from a car dealer to lease the property, and basically shut it down sunday, so IL/WI people need to find a new place for sunday brunch, i working with a brew pub in the city, that has parking, but not enuff,so who knows, not much else around there, tuff luck, so mike the tribs answer is not

It is more closely related to a Buell or a Sportster than any V-Rod

Why so? Isn't it watercooled, OHC?

"It is more closely related to a Buell or a Sportster than any V-Rod"

"Why so? Isn't it watercooled, OHC?"

None of the above is true although I suppose Blake is closer. It is a way off the wall, scratch built, push rod, two valve, 60 degree, aircooled 160 something CID V-Twin.

James,
With one exception, which is new for this year, all the Pro Stock bikes including the Japanese bikes are aircooled.

There is more on the V&H "V-Rod" here

http://www.nhra.com/2002/news/march/031402.html

The closest thing to a real HD to qualify in Pro Stock this year is Dave Faezel's bike.

The V&H bike came in second on sunday. The V&H bikes get a weight and displacement break but, because they are called V-Rods, they have a lousy aero package.

GT Tonglet rode his bike all the way to the finals where he put a hole shot on Geno Scali (Suzuki) but Scali drove around him.

HD 7.177 185 mph
Suz 7.139

The V & H bikes are light years ahead of where they were last year when they could not even qualify for races let alone compete for wins.

The engines are based (loosely)on the VRod power plant but completely machined by V & H.

I posted this under a quick board topic also.

Blake, you are going to love this one. Remember that Buell ad from a few years ago showing the M2 hanging up in the meatlocker?

Well I just looked at the new issue of Superbike...UK mag..& near the front there is an ad for the Yamaha FJR1300 showing the bike hanging up in a meatlocker next to the sides of beef. Almost an exact ripoff. I thought it was too funny.

Yammy is ripping off the Buell ad? That'll come back to haunt them. It's really very much just like the Japanese though. They have a real aptitude for copying and improving upon the ideas of others.

"The engines are based (loosely)on the VRod power plant but completely machined by V & H."

"loosely" is a complete and utter overstatement.

Greg,
How am I wrong? Aircooled, pushrod two valve versus liquid cooled, DOHC, four valve. The only thing in common with the V-Rod mill is the angle of the V. Or did I misunderstand something?

Maybe I will have to buy the mag just so I can post the ad. Its a dead ringer for the Buell one.

Okay if it makes you feel better call it a Buell.

I think it has about as much in common with either engine as a cat has in common with a canary.

Have you ever seen the V&H engine? Belt driven cams in side boxes with the push rods. Yeah that sounds like a Buell. Air cooled? Yup, just like a Top Fuel dragster, everything is hogged out of billet aluminum no cooling fins but hey, there's not any water or antifreeze so it must be aircooled for the minute or two it runs. Two valves per cylinder? By golly it must be a Buell.
Or did I misunderstand something? :p It's okay to be wrong sometimes.

I said "It still irks me that they call that thing a V-Rod. It is more closely related to a Buell or a Sportster than any V-Rod." Did I call it a Buell? No.

You said I was wrong. You seem to enjoy telling people they are wrong. That is a rude thing to do, and when done deserves a modicum of explanation. Lacking any explanation, it is insulting. Add smart ass comments and you've got the makings of a bona fide confrontational asshole.

Am I wrong?

To the list: I am finding myself in a position where some of my toys will have to go on the block. My 2000 Buell is one of them (maybe). I have no idea what to ask for a price. I am including here the specs and stuff (lots) I have on and with it.
S-3T Amazon Green. Deep Bags standard wheels.
Millenium Technologies cylinders with major head work but new stock pistons, for longevity. I stayed with the stock cams for the same reason. Borla full exhaust system, Tall wind screen, Corbin Gunfighter and Lady saddle with backrest in black carbon fiber imbossed genuine leather, tank bra, tank bag, electric deer alert, K$N air cleaner with custom air horn in modified air box. New "unbreakable" right lower, Penske shock, new spare primed left lower (rolled off center stand when parked headed downhil in neutral - let that be a lesson)(original lower still on and working with only a few scrapes that I touched up. New shifter, upgraded header bracket, new Mez - 4 tires, Race module, Power Commander and 4 wire O2 sensore with dynojet custom map, dyno at 89.6 hp but told should pick up a bit more once I went back to synthetic oil and a little airbox work that I have done. Can supply map on floppy disk as well. This bike still gets 50+ mpg with the O2 sensor in the off position and 42-45+ with it in the #1 setting. That is running at legal highway speeds in Montana (70 -75) Have had no need to try the #2 setting.
I have all stock take off items (exhaust - seat - windscreen, etc). The bike has 24K miles and the engine work was done only 4K miles ago. I run nothing But Amzoil. This in NOT an oil pumper like some Buells.
Runs wonderfully and has never been abused. Yah - I know - but I'm 57 and my dumbness has pretty much been used up. I did run the Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 with it a couple of years ago and it did fine.
Any way all I would like to know is what a reasonable asking price for this bike might be. I have seen the stuff going on eBay so know it won't be anything near what I have invested. You won't hurt my feelings. Just don't want to put it out there for a stupid price should I have to sell. At this point I do not - but things are looking bleak.
Thanks for any input.
Ron

Ron,

My gut ballpark analysis says to take the bike back to stock and sell off the accessories first, this could get you $500-$1000 or so, maybe. Then the remaining stock M2 should get you between $3500-$5500 depending on the buyer. If my observation is in the ballpark, parting out the M2 should net you $4500-$6000 and would take about 3-8 weeks, and add in the shipping/payment/disassembly/e-mail contact/communicaiton aspect.

On my M2, should I decide to part it out, I'd probably try to sell the engine off alone first, then go from there on the rest of the stuff. That way I could maybe use the remaining parts on another bike when/if things turned around.

Your location is another factor to consider.
