Fatslow,
The 99 Corbin seat will fit your 98. I have one on my 97. It will rub the tank and scuff the paint on the tank but you will not see it until you remove the seat. Also, the rubber bumpers on the bottom of the seat will need replacing after 20,000 miles or so. It is much better than either of the stock seats from Buell for riding long distances. And yes, Corbin.s customer service sucks. Dont expect anything but the bare minimum from them and you will not be disappointed.

Matt,

Wow ... a butt-load of mail today and I realize we spoke via e-mail. Anyway, I purchased a Corbin seat for my 98 S3T when I first bought my bike. With out a doubt it looked good on the bike. However, I hated the Corbin seat and I paid ton of money for it, around $300 if I recall. The seat was hard and to smooth. It forced me towards the gas tank all the time especially when stopping. Plus one of the seams started coming apart within 2 months.

I ended up buying a 2000 seat (if I recall the year). This is the seat that curves down over the sides of the tail section up by the gas tank. And yes, it rubs on the paint (rear of gas tank and front of tail section). Anyway, the stock 2000 Buell seat was extremely comfortable for ME. I've put nearly 40,000 miles on "that seat" too. It also looks as good as it did they day I purchased it and it was a fraction the cost of the Corbin.

>>It is much better than either of the stock seats from Buell for riding long distances.<<

As mentioned I had the exact opposite experience. I tried a Corbin for the S3 - Excruciatingly painful. At Homecoming I bought a Y2K seat (?) and shipped the Corbin home - I wouldn't have made it home on the corbin.

>> And yes, Corbin.s customer service sucks.

I wholeheartedly agree <IMG SRC="> that's why I always recommend not buying a Corbin seat unless you can try it out on *your* bike first.

Did carb jetting (45 idle, duh!) & venturi ring mods this weekend. Dang! major difference in warm up & idle. Friend even says It sounds right, now. Happy M2. The milk crate time really helped my confidence level.

Jst,

It's only got 250Mi on it.... But no warranty.. Basically it's brand new... Not that I would pay that much... But it is not outrageously out of line (price paid that is)...

Phantom,
Get the tps stuff reset. In the knowledge vault here there is a section covering fuel injection and carburators http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/3591.html?1051724053. Rummage around in the archives and you should find the routine to help the bike find it's own happy zone (something about running at a steady speed for some number of miles at some set RPM). I've got a carb'd bike so I don't have to worry about that f.i. stuff.

Welcome to the board. I think there's a few people here from Ohio. I'm around the bend up here in Wisconsin.

Maybe it's me but $11K for a bike that lists for $8,999.00 is a bit much. Not to mention the fact that they rarely went for list. If it had a race kit or some other options maybe $10K out the door, But $11K is over the top.
I guess It's just my $.02

Jst,

I concur w/you on the price... I got my departed '98 S3 (3 miles) in 99 for $10,000 OTD.... the same for my new XB9S...Just for a point of reference, the dealer gave me $5600.00 for trade on the S-3 (18,000Mi) when I traded it in in November 02...

You could have picked up as new 2000 for something like $6000 when they had the whole 2nd rd of shock recalls going on. Just had to let the bike sit at the dealer till the shock came in.

$8,999
+ 595 Freight and Prep
+ 767 Tax
+ 639 Warranty
==================
$11,000 + license and tags.
Adjust up or down in the appropriate category for local variations. If he paid full list for the bike then the $11,000 is easily within reach. And if he's a new rider (which the low mileage might indicate) then he probably paid full list (what with not knowing any better and with a dealer pointing out the Buell cost vs. a Harley cost, "Look at it this way, the Buell is half the price of the UltraGlide over there so it's really not all that expensive".)

Henrik,
You are too skinny to appreicate the Corbin seat. It really is designed for people who go 200+ pounds. Every skinny guy I have met does not like the Corbin but us "large boned" guys all seem to like them.

I still stand by my original statement. Let's hack off the $639 Warranty. The add shows no Warranty. Any one care to take a shot at what tax tag and license are in Wisconsin? Are freight and prep the same through out the U.S.

My whole point was, This poor guy got taken advantage of in the beginning of his Buell ownership and now he's trying to sell a bike for $1,500.00 over Blue book retail. Not to mention how much Ebay charges to list a bike at that sale price.

Yep,
The e-bay price trick is to set a reserve price, then open the bidding as low as possible. At least he'll get to list it again for free once it closes.

And if he did pay some amount for a warranty, it may not be transferrable, or if it is he forgot to mention it.

Nashota is a nice little town near where I used to live. I'm pretty sure I know where he got the bike.

This is good for a chuckle, author is unknown.

TO WAVE OR NOT TO WAVE

I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you, what first drew me
to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become
part of a special community--a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me
more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my
beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate,
hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't
wave. With their little tassle handlebars and the studded luggage and the
half-helmets--God, they drive me crazy.

You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, I do hate those guys. I don't wave
at them, either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180
degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old
bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two-
wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drivearound like they've
got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grampa, and while you're
at it, I'm not waving to you.

Ducati guys (ST2SAM?)--I don't wave at them either. Why don't they spend a little more
money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color you want, as long as
it's red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a desmo-whatever engine
is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never,
ever wave at those guys.

Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either.
They always have those stupid helmets sitting on top of their stupid heads,
and God forbid they should wear any safety gear. They make me so mad.
Sometimes they'll speed by and look over at me and you know what I do? I
don't wave. I just keep on going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki
guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never
wave at Kawasaki guys.

I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I'll never
wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah, like you're going
to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way.
Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from me, and by the way, neither will
the guys in two-piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at
-- those guys with the helmets with the loud paintjobs. Four pounds of paint
on a two pound helmet - like I'm going to wave back to that! I'll also never
wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves.
Or hiking boots.

To me, motorcycling is a like a family, a close-knit brotherhood of people
who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular
gloves and a solid-color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing
gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands).

AND ISN'T THAT WHAT MAKES RIDING SO SPECIAL?

Nev,
Turn your monitor on it's side, then bang on it with a rubber mallet, then turn it back upright. If you have to scroll sideways then it just means that the pixels are spaced out some and need to get remassed again.

Since you didn’t ask anyone specific, I’ll give you my 2 cents. For starters, you’ll be one lucky dude to get anything near what you “think” it’s worth. I’m not saying you won’t be able to sell it but you’ll be lucky if you do. That’s WHY some decide to part out their Buells instead of selling it outright. In my area, motorcycle dealerships won’t take them in on trade either because they can’t sell them. They’ve also been given the stigma of being unreliable, high maintenance, tons of recalls, poor service and underpowered, unlike their counterparts (so to speak).

Boese, the used motorcycle market is the pits if you are selling. All those new bikes with nothing down,no payments for 6 months, cheap financing, etc. On the other hand, there are screaming deals on bikes right now.I see at least one bike a day I must have--and can almost afford.(must save for newer, bigger truck to haul all bikes to Bonneville)
