Damguy; The oil dipstick is accurate, when it says it's at the top of the line, it's at the top of the line. Run it halfway between full and the lower line. If you fill it up it just blows it out. Your other questions are dealt with in topical archives on this board, dive in and learn. Where are you located? You will find this bunch very helpful and willing to share garage space to help you sort your bike. Be patient, and use lots of blue loctite. Beware the one they call Court. | ||

Well I need to know what the "Collective" thought is on this mounting idea for my latest version of "You never have enough light".  Passion is in need of more light like Stripe'r was prior to her assimilation of the PIAA's.  Since Passion's S-2 fairing is smaller than a S-3 fairing it looked strange with the light mounted in-board of the mirrors and the vent mounting look real bad. So what's the verdict? Neil, I don't like it for 2 reasons: 1. It will put stress on your mirror posts which could cause cracking of the fairing. 2. Its ugly.  Can't you put them on the forks? | ||

Neil, Yep, look at teardropping the lights under the turn signals maybe, or possibly go with a wide narrow/thin light under the bottom of the fairing as long as it will clear the fender under full compression. | ||

Neil. I agree on the lights. I hang(very crude attachment method) 35w fog lamps on mine. At night they make a huge difference on lighting up the roadway. I have thought about going to 55w units but haven't found ones that I like that are small enough and give a good beam pattern. My CBR has an excellent headlamp beam pattern. I don't know why cycle manufacturers can't do a better job of designing headlamps. | ||

Peter: no, it's not ... But it does remind me of the parks in Copenhagen in the summer around lunch time ... mmmmmmmmmm MikeJ: in the morning, that picture is not too far off  Neil: I'd mount the lights on the upper fork legs. That way they would turn with the forks/bars, and maybe provide more light when going into turns. I've been thinking that someone with a band saw could fairly easily make aluminum brackets that could clamp onto the fork legs and provide a PIAA type mount. Anyone have a bandsaw ?? Henrik | ||

Bomber has some nice fork-light attachment clamps that he should start fabricating and selling as a sideline. On my M2 I used some pipe clamps and aluminum strapping to rig up fork-mounted light hangers. The lights I used aren't very good, but the mounting has held up well and was inexpensive. | ||

I'm a few weeks out before I start bike wrenching again (school gets priority at times) but will break out the measurerator (aka: calipers) in a few weeks and let you know the dimensions. Are you doing/running the MilwaukeeRally B-Trax or is Reg handling that one himself? | ||

Hey Bomber: Like the Showa USD forks the WP forks on the S2's taper. Also you have limited space between the fork tube and the fender. What kind of majic do you have to remedy these 2 scenarios for making light brackets? You M2 riders are lucky since the fork tube doesn't taper. Hey Dan  : Thanks for the kind words. Anyway with the bracket sandwiched between the mirror/ fairing/ flat mounting plate (and the light weight), I see very little liklyhood of the fairing cracking (althought on Stripe'r they did break out a section of the vent wall that I had to repair). As far as ugly, I've been called worse  . These little PIAA 1100X produce gobs of light that is real high quality and with only a 25 deg. beam spread. Time2Work Neil S. | ||

The best headlight bulbs (H4s) you can get your hands on right now are made by Hella. The +50% and +100% are great. PIAA used to make some decent 80W/80W H4s but their 55W offerings suck for the money. Don't get suckered by all the bullshit PIAA pushes about how their 55Watters are the equivalent of 135W. Tripper: Thanks for the dipstick and locktite info. It appears I'm using oil cause whenever I add it's gone the next time I check. It isn't leaking but I suspect it's blowing out the crankcase and into the air cleaner cause there's more there than I would think is normal. I'm from Mass and know there are folks from here on this site and I need to hook up and pick some brains. Guess I'll dig into the archives. Thanks Damguy |
