PDXS3T

Email me your address and I will send you the correct Weather pack connections.

I'll lend you my crimping tool if you send it back when you are done.

Replaceing the Weather pack on the harness is a five (5) minute job for even an old guy like me with bad hands.

The bad news is that you will have to remove your battery to get to the wiring harness.

Get the correct 02 sensor from your local dealer and away you go.

We reotinely replace weather pack connectors on the NASCAR stuff every day.

Email me at Buellskinner @AOL.COm with your address.

Be Safe

Guys:

The one reason I still ride Buell's are the other people who ride Buells.

Not a problem at all. Tool and parts will be in Fed Ex no later than Thursday,

Sounds like a good week project getting the bike back on the road.

Okay,
this one has been kicked around before, but here it goes again. I'm ready to buy my tire balancer, I came across this one (for all I know I saw it here, I can't remember where the link came from).

Has anyone used this?

tire balancer

Thanks

Matt: Just make very sure that the unit you buy has enough adjustability to accommodate the remarkable width of our rear wheel plus pulley. The unit at my local Honda/Suzuki/Kawasaki shop is wide enough for their use and not wide enough for a Buell rear wheel.

Jim_Witt, last time I checked, the price for a full seat of Mastercam was around the 12k to 15k mark depending on what versions you include like Mill, Lathe, wire EDM and so-on. I now use a draft version of release 8 (which costs about $150) to do my sketching, and do all of my 3D in Solidworks and import .igs files into Mastercam for CNC work.

The 3-in-1 machines - I'm not sure to tell you the truth! I'd expect it'd be a nice purchase maybe for your garage to do custom contract work! I'd like to have one in my garage just for fun!

Rock and Roll.

Pdxs3t: Did they say why they cut the wire to begin with? (There's no way the O2 sensor is in the way of working on a rocker box leak, even the rear one.) That type of "workmanship" makes me cringe.

I'm looking for a quality Tank Bag to fit on my 98 S3T. Most I see are of the magnetic vaiety which I am going to assume is worthless on a plastic tank. I'm open for suggestions. Please note I said quality.

Thanks.

Scott,
Define "quality".
I've been very happy with the Buell branded tank bag on my M2. Just make a strap (suspender type of strapping) for the loose ends when you're not running the bag on the bike.

Brad,

Doyle's is claiming they didn't do that to the O2 sensor wiring. Blamed my regualr servicing dealership (who has always done top notch work) for it, which is what I expected.

Ara,

CS stepped up to that plate today during a phone conversation (with my wife, love ya Shel) and hit a great big grand slam home run, offering the support needed to correct Doyle's FUBAR!

I too have been very happy with my Buell branded S3 tank bag. It expands when needed, came with a rain cover, and has a map window and lots of pockets. The bag straps stay on year around for easy using.

For some time I always thought that there wasn't much going on around here when the GDB was relatively quiet. Oh narrow vision round eye. For those that don't use the new messages utility you are missing out!!! So much stuff going on around here you'd be amazed.

Jim, I'm MUCH more impressed with a wife that is both willing to call a motorcycle manufacturer for her husband AND get the job done successfully than I am with the performance of the manufacturer's customer service department! Only one word suffices: WOW.

So what is it with Harley/Buell dealers and standing behind their work? I've had 3 different dealers (Widman's, Hal's, Ted's) either screw something up or fail to repair something properly and each time they denied it was their problem and I was forced to fix it on my own. Independent shops on the other hand own up to their mistakes and do their best to correct the problem.

My current issue is a cracked engine case. I took my S1 to Ted's for the exhaust "Y" update and an X1 top motor mount. When I got the bike home I saw that the lower front engine mount (by the oil filter) had a crack all the way it. The experts I've talked to have agreed it's due to improperly supporting the engine while doing the work.

Pictures here and here

I took the S1 back to Ted's and had the service manager look at it. Before discussing what had happened, possibilities, or anything else I got "Well, I'm not going to do anything about that." After discussion he decided that the most likely cause was it happened "spontaneously".

Anyone else have their engine crack spontaneously?

He even said he'd seen it before. After some more talk he admitted it had been on a wrecked bike.

He insisted that they properly supported the engine to perform the work they did. (Bear in mind they had to remove all support from the front of the engine)

But at no point did he talk to mechanic to determine how it was actually supported or if anything happened/went wrong during the procedure.

Apparently it didn't matter what the mechanic actually did or what actually happened.

Estimate to repair? $1000 to weld it (strip engine, weld the hole, machine new mount) or buy new cases ($1800?)

Is it any wonder I buy older bikes and try to do all the work myself?

Any help on the matter would be appreciated I have not gotten anywhere using non-legal channels (Since I don’t have any “before” photos or expert mechanic testimony I figure I can’t win in court).

Anyone know if this will kill me if I just put a frame brace on it and continue to ride until it separates more?

Kinger,

There's no need to use anything extra to restrain the front straps. I stow the loose ends by folding them back over the frame tube where they're tied and pushing them in towards the engine. Then tuck the rear strap under the seat. Out of sight, out of mind.

Kinger, Sparky,
There were a few reports of people doing just as Sparky said with their straps, and the straps working out and lodging against the fork limiting the amount of turn the fork could make. If I recall right, one guy just cranked hard on the handlebars to avoid going down and busted/crushed the clip in the process. I figured for less than $10 at a fabric shop I picked up 6' of nylon strap and three clip assemblies, and looped them together into a Y-shaped (or V-shaped if you prefer) suspender-thingy/assembly. Keeps the straps from flopping around, and prevents the possibility of an accident. A side issue is it looks like a tank retainer for the underinformed. Did not require any sewing, and it can double as a belt for your pants, or for hanging your food in a tree in camp.
Do what you feel comfortable with, and be responsible for the same.

MikeJ.

A new BRAG chapter has started at Mancuso H-D/Buell in Houston, TX. Buell riders interested in joining can sign up at our grand opening 3/15 and 3/16 at our 12710 Crossroads Park Drive location, or call and ask for Keith at 281-970-9700.
Chapter name is "Texas Streetfighters." Planned events include monthly rides, dyno shootouts, BattleTrax competitions, track days. See you on the road!

Josh,

The opinion here is that the damage you've described and photo'd would probably not be the result of "improperly supporting the engine" during your upper isolator replacement. The geometry of the links means that if the engine drops, it pivots toward the link, rather than placing much vertical load upon that area of the engine case. More likely is the effect of lateral movement or tension, improper adjustment of the lower link placing the engine into a bind, or an accident at some point placing lateral (see it would be "vertical" if the bike were on its side. But then again, YMMV.
