Very interesting conversation with Aaron Wilson tuesday night on Nallin Racing Speedtalk. He is very excited about new developements at shop. New catalog coming out after the new year and maybe their own proprietary head design from the ground up --in billet also.Could be the start of LOTS of interesting things coming from Colorado.

Interesting to see the reactions here. Some laugh and some are bothered.
I only posted it as it was something I found on another site which seemed a good way to promote voting.
And yeah Bomber, I know where you're coming from. I was in threat of a cavity search in Philly this year because I had a steering damper in my bag for Aaron's M2 at Bonneville. It went through customs everywhere else without problem.....
Then they jumped on Grizzly because he was laughing and videoing it at the time.

Jim/Aaron,
THAT would be very cool!

Peter...

For what it is worth, I forwarded to a number of folks that are in the over 40 (some in their 70's) and somewhat politically motivated (read: any party) and all not only enjoyed it, they sent honest (almost tearful) replies.

It is a good thing to use a little humor to get folks thinking again.

Thank you

Geeeshhh.....I had one of those once. They come, as you may be aware, with a squeeze bottle of "scent" that you, in a perfect world, apply to the canvas dummy, toss and the dog goes and clamps down on it.

This, ordinarily, would have have been a problem had I not, while reading the enclosed literature, left the squeeze bottle on the sofa before my "girth-ish" Mother-in-Law arrived.

I saw, almost immdiately, the embarrasement on her face as she seated herself, causing the bottle stuffed between the cushions, to emit a nausiating "barrrraafff" sound.

The rest of the day, all I heard was "stop, leave me alone" while I giggled hopelessly.

Life's funny. . . can you tell who's writing today? :)

Blake is away and left me in charge. I'm not good with calculations, but I'll share this tidbit, received in the night from Australia, sure that this is the type of analysis that Blake would want us to consider.....

There are approximately two billion children (persons under 18) in the
world. However, since Santa does not visit children of Muslim, Hindu, Jewish
or Buddhist (except maybe in Japan) religions, this reduces the workload for
Christmas night to 15% of the total, or 378 million (according to the
Population Reference Bureau). At an average (census) rate of 3.5 children
per household, that comes to 108 million homes, presuming that there is at
least one good child in each.

Santa has about 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different
time zones and the rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west
(which seems logical). This works out to 967.7 visits per second. This is to
say that for each Christian household with a good child, Santa has around
1/1000th of a second to park the sleigh, hop out, jump down the chimney,
fill the stockings, distribute the remaining presents under the tree, eat
whatever snacks have been left for him, get back up the chimney, jump into
the sleigh and get on to the next house. Assuming that each of these 108
million stops is evenly distributed around the earth (which, of course, we
know to be false, but will accept for the purposes of our calculations), we
are now talking about 0.78 miles per household; a total trip of 75.5 million
miles, not counting bathroom stops or breaks. This means Santa’s sleigh is
moving at 650 miles per second--3,000 times the speed of sound. For
purposes of comparison, the fastest man-made vehicle, the Ulysses space
probe, moves at a poky 27.4 miles per second, and a conventional reindeer
can run (at best) 15 miles per hour.

The payload of the sleigh adds another interesting element.
Assuming that each child gets nothing more than a medium sized Lego set (two
pounds), the sleigh is carrying over 500 thousand tons, not counting Santa
himself. On land, a conventional reindeer can pull no more than 300 pounds.

Even granting that the “flying” reindeer could pull ten times the normal
amount, the job can’t be done with eight or even nine of them—Santa would
need 360,000 of them. This increases the payload, not counting the weight of
the sleigh, another 54,000 tons, or roughly seven times the weight of the
Queen Elizabeth (the ship, not the monarch).

600,000 tons traveling at 650 miles per second creates enormous air
resistance—this would heat up the reindeer in the same fashion as a
spacecraft re-entering the earth’s atmosphere. The lead pair of reindeer
would absorb 14.3 quintillion joules of energy per second each. In short,
they would burst into flames almost instantaneously, exposing the reindeer
behind them and creating deafening sonic booms in their wake. The entire
reindeer team would be vaporized within 4.26 thousandths of a second, or
right about the time Santa reached the fifth house on his trip.

Not that it matters, however, since Santa, as a result of accelerating from
a dead stop to 650 m.p.s. in .001 seconds, would be subjected to
acceleration forces of 17,500 g’s. A 250 pound Santa (which seems
ludicrously slim) would be pinned to the back of the sleigh by 4,315,015
pounds of force, instantly crushing his bones and organs and reducing him to
a quivering blob of pink goo.

Therefore, if Santa did exist, he’s dead now. Merry Christmas.

MEMO FROM SANTA
I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will no longer serve the States of Georgia, Florida, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, and Arkansas on Christmas Eve. Due to the overwhelming current population of the earth, my contract was renegotiated by North American Fairies and Elves Local 209. As part of the new and better contract I also get longer breaks for milk and cookies so keep that in mind.

However, I'm certain that your children will be in good hands with your local replacement, who happens to be my third cousin, Bubba Claus. His side of the family is from the South Pole. He shares my goal of delivering toys to all the good boys and girls; however, there are a few differences between us.

Differences such as:

1. There is no danger of the Grinch stealing your presents from Bubba Claus. He has a gun rack on his sleigh and a bumper sticker that reads: "These toys insured by Smith and Wesson."

2. Instead of milk and cookies, Bubba Claus prefers that children leave an RC cola and pork rinds [or a moon pie] on the fireplace. And Bubba doesn't smoke a pipe. He dips a little snuff though, so please have an empty spit can handy.

3. Bubba Claus' sleigh is pulled by floppy-eared, flyin' coon dogs instead of reindeer. I made the mistake of loaning him a couple of my reindeer one time, and Blitzen's head now overlooks Bubba's fireplace.

4. You won't hear, "On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen.." when Bubba Claus arrives. Instead, you'll hear, "On Earnhardt, on Andretti, on Elliott, and Petty."

5. "Ho, Ho, Ho!" has been replaced by "Yee Haw!" And you also are likely to hear Bubba's elves respond, "I her'd dat!"

6. As required by Southern highway laws, Bubba Claus' sleigh does have a Yosemite Sam safety triangle on the back with the words "Back Off."

7. The usual Christmas movie classics such as "Miracle on 34th Street" and "It's a Wonderful Life" will not be shown in your negotiated viewing area. Instead, you'll see "Boss Hogg Saves Christmas" and "Smokey and the Bandit IV" featuring Burt Reynolds as Bubba Claus and dozens of state patrol cars crashing into each other.

And Finally,

8. Bubba Claus doesn't wear a belt. If I were you, I'd make sure you, the wife, and the kids turn the other way when he bends over to put presents under the tree.

Sincerely Yours, S. Claus

Hey Court! Brilliant deduction based on your math. I guess it's logical to deduce that the real Santa Claus is Bill Gates. He knows his toys can handle the speed and that us kids enjoy them! Let me see...If the lead reindeer was shaped like a raindrop, then........

Have a super safe and fun Holiday season!

yes I read it and actually quoted it in another thread:

Quote:

If you take your pavement in long, twisty stretches rather than a quarter-mile at a time, Aprilia's Tuono R is what Yamaha's V-Max was 18 years ago: stunning in every sense. The chassis takes a little getting used to, so use the brakes. But the Ohlins suspension is straight-up magic. This engine kicks the slats out of any other quasi-legal V-twin on the planet, including Honda's RC51 and any Ducati you can name. I don't have the heart or the stomach to talk about what it would do to any Buell. Somebody tell me why Milwaukee can't build an engine like this.

Tim Carrithers, Motorcyclist, January 2003, page 36.

I wouldn't be worried about the $18k one, that's a limited edition, the "standard" $11,500 version is the one that will be on easier to find here in the US.

from the article above:

Quote:

According to Aprilia insiders, the biggest problem was the Marlin’s tiny proportions – themselves the key to its stunning looks. While the engine was taken directly from the RSV, and as such should have made 130bhp, it proved impossible to fit a decent-sized airbox under the Blue Marlin’s slimline fuel tank. And without the big airbox of the RSV, the engine’s performance dropped massively – giving the Blue Marlin just 80bhp, a figure considered far too low for a production version of the bike.

Do we have to go through another weekend of "Buell sucks because _________"?

I'm looking at this Buell advertisement that says "some companies show concept bikes, we sell them" and dreaming of a Lightning in my garage.

I've gotta be honest, I think the Aprilia is a neat bike. I have a library rife with books on Aprilia and their history that's to my kind friends at Motoclisimo. I love the Rotax engine sitting next to me in my F650. But I LUST for that XB9R.

I'd submit that few here are going to buy into the "abandon Buell because they make 3HP less than Italians say you have to have for a bike to be successful"

Frankly, I think the existing XB motor is an "appropriate" choice. It's proving bullet proof and reliable as hell in use. It's proving very "hot roddable" as the first Team Elves Special Edition comes to life and it allowed Buell to concentrate on bringing a frame and innovative concept that not even Honda could (and they wanted to) get to market with fast enough. Buell has cast the NAS as a "follower" if and when it get's released.

In addition, I think I have a keen enough sense of Erik Buell's abilites and his well developed sense of balancing the motor his LIKES AS A RACER with the motor he must has to SELL TO THE PUBLIC.

I'm going out on a line here and saying that no one here is buying that "Erik Buell can't design and engine". I mean read that statement aloud and you'll risk filling the keyboard with spewed coffee. "Can't" has not entered the Buell equation. Over the years, and I've gotten to watch this develop, Erik has acquired a keen sense of WHAT sells and how many innovations to deliver in the same package. You've heard me say this before, but if you watch a skilled juggler they never have all the balls in the air at the same time.

I must confess, I am John Q. Public. If I want a race bike, I'd buy a RACEBIKE. Until then, I am spending my time lusting over my Buell and figuring out how to jusify buying my 7th.

As long as we have José_Quiñones around to so generously dig up everything he can find. Most of us are quite capable of locating websites such as AMASuperbike and RRWorld, and the other "e-zines". In fact, most of us probably have them bookmarked, thank you.

Won't people ever learn to take everything they read with a grain of salt? Just because so and so writes for a magazine, it doesn't mean he/she has the ability to know what is best for everyone. It doesn't even mean they are an "expert in the field". As an aside, look at most of the sportbike magazines and check out the ads. Can anyone guess where 99% of their revenue comes from? It certainly isn't Buell.

Just a thought here. Most of us "John Q Public" buyers can not afford more than 1 bike at a time. If I could, I would certainly like to have a XB in my garage. But I can't, so I must own a bike that can do it all. The XB's just don't cut it for me. Too small, not comfortable enough, and I can't carry enough on one to make a two week trip.
My S3T does. Its too bad that H/D has abandoned the riders that use this type of bike. When I wear this one out, it looks like I will have to go elsewhere to buy.
H/D is stuck in a rut when it comes to doing R&D on new engines and chassis designs. They mostly just change the paint and chrome parts around and keep raising the prices. If and when the buying public refuses to pay too much for their cruisers, is when we will see H/D change their ways.
Overall I thought the Motorcycle Daily review was dead on.

>>>Maybe Mrs_Vicky is less understanding than Mrs_Thing

Good news....two of the bikes living in the basement are hers and she's beginning to "wonder" if a Lightning could be lowered. I'm beginning to have visions of "Duel Buells" obscuring the "matching monsters". Se sat on the XB9S at Uke's and thought it was a tad tall, but is open to trying it again.

Had dinner last night with two of the Forbes' who are dying to see, in the flesh, an XB9S. This bike, with it's 40 changed parts, had lured in a host of newfound interest who I doubt will take the time to visit ever Buell curmudgeon site and get their enthusiasm dampened. I may have to take the plunge, I've already turned down two calls from Producer Don to "borrow my Buell" for public display.

>>>you obviously survived your "home alone with Jack, the super glue and the gray paint" episode

Careful...still a bit touchy on that one and the doggie bowling lessons are not going at all well. You'll see next week. You may be the first to ever actually SEE the Buell basement....but you'll have to sign a document first :)

Lib, you're reading it wrong.

"I don't have the heart or the stomach to talk about what it would do to any Buell. Somebody tell me why Milwaukee can't build an engine like this."

He doesn't want the discrepancy to be so vast. He wishes he could mention Buell and the Tuono in the same breath and not compromise his journalistic integrity. He's frustrated (like many) because he believes that Milwaukee has the talent but it is not being utilized. At least that's how I'm reading that statement.

Ok, break's over. Back to studying for my Monday final in Properties of Materials.
