Greg:

Wow, I had that very discussion just yesterday when "upper management" told me I had a cynical approach to engineering & controls. I told them the problem with idiot proofing is that its difficult to imagine how stupid some people can be. It's a constant challenge...

Right...imagine they made the brakes softer and used lighting cams. Dump the clutch, you're still taking off...then when you need to stop in a hurry the brakes aren't as strong, Great ideas. Sounds much safer.

IMO a torquey engine is better for begginers...harder to stall. I don't see what would make it all the more dangerous. I'm not an expert by any means...but I did teach myself to ride on an S1 a year and a half ago and I'm still alive.

JeffB,

Did the cams go to Michigan? If so click his profile and see if the web-link is still live (caution though if you check it at work as it triggers the firewall blocker here for some reason). If the web site is still alive then you may be able to find a telephone number to contact him directly. If that's who it is he may be having a few problems workwise, in which case he should either pay or return the items. If this isn't who it is then sorry, I'm just pinging on who posted about them.

I've had no problems dealing with the people here. In fact I sent a set of Blast bodywork to California based on an email that the money would come, which it did. I've bought a few things and sold a few things here, all with no problems that I know of.

The guy, whoever it is, may have just run into a bit of trouble, and if so he should at the very least contact you and admit this. Keep us posted how it all ends up. I try not to judge someone of wrong doing until I have some facts to back it up. Hope it all settles out for the best for you.

Thanks for the info. He contacted me yesterday after I posted the message and sent me payment by PayPal. He didn't offer any excuse other than the check must have gotten lost. Whatever. It is taken care of.

Can anyone tell me the proper settings for the Craine HI4-e ignition module. I have a 1998 S1W and the rear cyl is detonating pretty bad. Thanks......

On the Blast training bikes. I think a way to help with runaway frightened students would be a radio controlled ignition kill circuit tied in with a solenoid on the intake or exhaust to act as a Jake brake to help slow down bike.

Smitty...I was in my local H-D/Buell shop last week. They had these little "mini bikes". They had a remote that could be used to kill the enging in case the rug rats got into trouble.

Not a bad idea except you'd probably have to kill all the bikes at the same time. Otherwise you'd spend too much time throwing switches to find the right bike (or you'd have too many remotes).

Other than "We will believe it when we see it," does anyone have any comments on Nick Ienatsch's article in the January 2003 Cycle World about the Fischer Motor Company and their MR1000???

I should think that HD/BMC could beat them to the punch if they decided there was a market for this type motorcycle.

No question about it both are Henderson 4 cylinder motorcycles... Emblem was very similiar to Excelsior because they were both made by Schwinnin the bicycle people.. Production stopped in 1931... The bike your Aunt is on appears to be a 1929 KJ model... Hope this helps

Look what is on EBAY;
Schwinn Paramount BUELL frame full/susp.
Item # 1974416992

This is a collector's item. It was one of the first full-suspension frames and was designed by BUELL. It was handcrafted at the Waterford plant. According to Richard Schwinn, Waterford made only 251!! It has a custom Paramount paint job with matching Rock Shox MAG 20 paint job!!! Along with the frame and fork are Magura hydraulic rear brake and lever. Included is the Shimano XT headset.

Happy T-day all !!!

Greetings from Buffalo, NY - a light dusting of snow is forecast for this evening (4-8 inches) with similar dustings daily through Monday.

Buffalo Snow Depth Euphemism Translation Chart
up to 11""dusting"
12" to 23""flurries"
24" to 35""squalls"
36" to 47""storms"
48" and up with winds 45 mph and higher"blizzard" (you know, like winter conditions, eh?)

I only mention this as I am taking a friend for his road test on Tuesday. Any suggestions, comments? (I already KNOW we are both insane, I own a Buell and he wants one...).
I found him a small bike to learn/practice/test on - `81 Kawasaki KZ750H - small enough to learn on but big enough to require some respect (and be a backup bike when he gets the tubeframe he wants). 8 months of learning and he has only dropped it twice - same day, same parking lot, 10 feet apart, speed < 3mph. Pretty d@mn good, I think.

Don
Thinking about spring... and why "tubeframe" is a misspelled word on this site

Thanks Jmartz, and Blake. I am too familar with the intake seal leak thing. I holed the rear piston at 19,324 miles due to a intake seal leake. I have a pretty severe hearing loss and I wear ear plugs on my bike to try to keep what hearing I have left and as a result I don't hear any detonation. A buddy of mine just replaced the stator on my bike and test rode it. He called me and said the rear cyl pings real bad. 'Didn't you notice that'? Well, no.

Don,
Hell, I think we have more snow in Rochester!

Tell him to put both feet down (when the brownie is looking anyways) or you could have some interesting material in the car to distract them.

I thought I was nuts!

You going to the Toronto show? Free parking for bikes........

Later
