The M2 I wadded up last July had been Dyno'd @ 86 HP and 75 lb\ft of torque and my current ride is Dyno'd @ 109 RWHP @ 9,400 rpm and 65 lb\ft of torque @ 7,750 rpm. You know what, Torque is better! I'd trade the extra 23 HP for 10 lbs\ft of torque any time. Horse power is a good thing. The more the better! But whacking the throttle while cruising along at 3,500 rpm and having the whole world light up is even better than doing a wheelie at 6,000 rpm. Don't be embarrassed when your Metric friends brag that they can go 299 mph. I'm here to tell you that that sort of thing doesn't mean a darn thing. They can’t really go that fast, and you can actually go 140 mph and can “really” go 10% faster than they can when the road get curvy. In reality, they can only go as fast as the car in front of them goes and you can go that fast with half the emotional and physical effort. When it come to top speed, the 150 HP bikes will win out but the other 99.44% of the time your Buell will be the winner. Buells Rule!!!! | ||

"You know what, Torque is better! " Ray, It sounds a little like the Triumph is about to either get retro-replaced or is about to get a stablemate. With depressed prices and Christmas shopping right around the corner I'm thinking you're thinking of getting a stablemate for the trumpet. Sharon/Foolsownbuells, You'll catch more fish with a good rod than you will with a weak line. Find some better bait. ps, word on the street is that Budweiser makes you burp. Badwebbers, I like where this is going. With all the experience on this board we should be able to come up with some general guidlines and answer the question once and for all time. What was/is the worst bike ever and why?? My personal nomination is the NSU wankel produced in the late 60's. Impossible to fix, ill handling and abysmal quality control. I am adding a M2L to my colleciton as we speak. The S2 will not go willingly back to street configuration. I think we should restrict nominations to only those bikes we have personal experience. I don't ride more than 100 miles on a ride so does anyone think I might be able to just put a filter on the end of the breather lines and clean the filter every now and then? sharkus | ||

Shark . . . .ASB sells a nice one . . . . .'most every gearhead shop does also (tho not as nice-looking as ASBs aluminum number, me thinks). some of these engines drool, some don't . . . . you may be fine with nuthin but a filter at the end of the line . . . . hard to determine without experience, though in any case, keep the line heading downhill from the heads . . .. otherwise, you'll create a trap (just like under the bathroom sink) with, ehem, messy results | ||

S just wait 2K miles or so . . . .. you'll get good growls outa the crack that develops just forward of the front mount (only slightly tongue in cheek . . . I have a feeling my lackadazical mounting practice contributed to the cracking) | ||

Shark,I got a Jaz catchcan recently,comes with filter.Very reasonable price.They make alot of stuff for the car guys. On another note,I just noticed I am short(no jokes ,now)one right side S-2 touring handlebar for some reason.Anybody got a spare they want to get rid of? | ||

Sharkus, Before I went to the Kooks, I took a V&H apart, cut some shim stock about three inches shorter than the perforated section, rolled it to fit tightly, then slid it inside the pipe and rivited it in place so there was about 1 1/2 " of perforated pipe exposed to the packing at each end inside the muffler. It takes the raspy edge off but gives you a wild sound. You'll loose a little bottom end power though. Kerry "Ole Baldie | ||

Buellbob - I was referring to Foolgirl’s profile, you’re cool dude. I would like to have a Blackbird and think that it would make a great touring bike. It wouldn’t really work for riding around town though; someone might mistake me for one of those people who is void of character and ignorant to the finer things that life as a motorcyclist has to offer. A CBX on the other hand, those are cool. Not really worth giving up a Buell for though. | ||

Newbuellie needs more advice: Oh buellish ones... I am sorting my gear to take to Phoenix to pick up my S3/T and need advice on what basic tools to take. The bike didn't come with a kit (don't know if they are supposed to). What is the most common/used wrench(s? Any Allens? I already have: radial tire plug kit, Leatherman, mini-ratchet wrench(no sockets selected yet), pliers/sidecuters, mini-elec/airpump (plugs into the bike), phillips/slot screwdrivers, tire gauge and nitrile goloves. What are your suggestions? Stephen in Seattle |
