We have finally released the new Sport Twin site but have not made a big announcement anywhere except here. We still have a few bugs to slay so keep in mind you will see a few here and there, I would really appreciate it if you would use the links at the top of our pages (Report bugs or problems here)to report any findings. Consider yourselves beta testers for a few days. All sections work fine including the store. We still need to add some of the stuff from the other site like the color matrix, recall listings and more model data. We have also created a Harley side as well ( http://www.thundertwin.net ) in addition to Sport Twin ( http://www.sporttwin.com ). Fatpony, Put the race ECM in your pocket. Ride to the dealer on the stock ECM. Do the ECM swap out in the dealers parking lot. Then if it won't run it will be a short push. My X-1 ran OK on race ECM for about twenty minutes without the reset. Then would not even start until TPS was re-zeroed. | ||

Thanks Court! A pic is worth a thou. words. Instead of working on the Buell I took the Busa for its first real break in ride today. What fun. We rode 220 miles through the Siskyou Mts. from sea level to 5K' and then back to the coast via Bear Camp road. Right through the area burnt by the recent Bisquit fire. The fire killed miles and miles of beautiful timber. I still blame the enviromentalits for what happened, always will. It saddened me to see such waste, in fact 'enraged' would be a better term. But other than that it was a fantastic day. This ride was a preview of a part of what may be included in next years 'All Cali and Part of Oregon' ride. Paul | ||

The final two SBK races at Imola were absolutely astounding! I'm going to tape them both when they're rebroadcast on SPEED tomorrow night. I figure they'll be good to watch on a cold and rainy weekend afternoon in January. No doubt that Edwards and Bayless are FIERCE competitors, and it was really great to hear them speak so highly of each other after the races were over. We never got that from Fogerty. My impression was that the Honda steered better than the Ducati. Bayless seemed to be fighting his bike. Anybody else get that? As for Nicky, he is a boy not a god. Clearly he is possessed of an abundance of raw talent, but Honda is risking his future by giving him a GP ride when he is so young. Many far more seasoned racers failed in Grand Prix, and returned to superbikes to regain their winning ways. It takes more than raw talent to win in the premier class. Russ | ||

Then again, there's Valentino Rossi, the Italian boy wonder. I think Colin would have given him a good run in Moto GP. Nicky will be busy acclimating to Moto GP, new team/crew and learning the tracks next year. In GP I'll probably end up rooting for the Americans and Baylis on his Duc. Gotta route for Duc over Honda. How cool would it be to have Duc field the Texas Tornado and Troy Baylis in Moto GP to face off against Rossi and Hayden?! | ||

I was thinking (like most people) that Honda gave Colin the shaft. Upon further consideration, though, I think there may have been other circumstances to consider. When your #1 rider is Val Rossi, I imagine the cost of keeping him on board is very high. The other honda riders in GP were no slouches either, regular front runners all. And, with Honda committed to providing RCV's to more sattelite teams next year, the cost outlay must be pretty high. So, when looking to fill a seat on the GP team, the decision between Colin & Nicky may have been more financial. Champions both, but Nicky was probably a MUCH cheaper option. With Colin moving to Ducati next year, I can't see him being seriously challenged for another title. With Bayliss gone to GP, his main playmate is gone. He and Hodgson could wrap it up 1-2, assuming Nori doesn't knock them down (figuratively and literally). Way off topic for a buell site, but bike related nonetheless. Ben | ||

October is finally here and the leaves will soon come off the trees. The frame sticker on my bike states it was built this month in 1995. It has been a wonderful 7 years of riding and ownership. My planned December retirement for my S1 will have to be moved up since the charging system has failed and other repairs are also due inside the primary cover. Today is the last day I will come to work on my bike. I have enjoyed this bike like no other, although since the isolators were replaced recently, vibration levels have risen well above my personal preference. Like some have mentioned in this forum sometimes it almost seems that you have to be a mechanic to stay being happy with this brand. Not a problem for me but I can sympathize especially with those that have acquired fuel injected lemons. The fact is I never quite found room for my right knee and burned my clothes and my leg on many occasions. Except for the new found vibration caused by the harder isolators the leg thing seemed in retrospect like a minor aggravation. I would like to thank Mr. Buell for his foresight and efforts in convincing HD to go along with such a radical chassis design powered by their traditional engine. Unfortunately his current vision is not in focus with mine. For this reason I will be replacing the Buell with another brand yet to be determined. Given my riding preferences (and needs) great handling and modest acceleration do not exactly meet my requirements. This will be my last regular posting although I might chime in form time to time with my controversial and anti-establishment views. In a few years, perhaps after my own retirement, I might restore this best looking American Sport bike which in its short 3 year run inspired many of us. So as Mr. Schwartzenegger would have it, hasta la vista… baby | ||

Court, I have heard of several Firebolts That had small oil leaks with the oil cooler lines but nothing about gear problems. | ||

Jmartz, Your contributions to our little community shall not be forgotten or go unappreciated. We certainly hope that you "chime in" more often than just "time to time". You'll always be welcome. I, like yourself, do not see myself and BMC on the same path and another Buell to eventually follow the '01 X1 is questionable at the moment. I have no regrets over having chosen the X1. In spite of various "issues" which Buell owners must concern themselves with, it has been a great ride and should continue being so for many more years. Whether or not BMC will have something for me when it's time to retire the X1, we shall watch and wait. The Buell experience is something all riders should get a taste of. So many do not understand and they all ask, "why?" I tell them that all they need to do is to take the X1 for a ride and they will understand. Those who accept the offer return enlightened, new custodians of memories they will not soon, or ever, forget. Good luck, Jmartz, and come visit us often. Time to fly-- Bob | ||

The good news is that the Firebolt (and I WILL endeavor to confirm this) is wracking up some darned impressive $$/bike warranty cost numbers. I saw, for the very first time ever, Steve Pratchler's XB9R while in Colorado. Everything I'd heard from current and former "Original Elves" was evident, the build quality jumps out at you JUST LOOKING. Someone had mentioned that Buells $$/unit costs were running well below Honda's. Seems damn near impossibile...well at least until I saw the Firebolt. I was impressed and am hopeful and confident that the gang at Buell has cleared a hurdle. Court | ||

JM, What, you aren't going to ride the S1 anymore?  Ain't anything on it that can't be repaired/replaced. Retire hell! Don't let a stinking stator rob you of some of the best riding of the season. How many riding seasons do you think you might have left on this earth? Life is WAY too short man. Buck up! C'mon, get that thing fixed and enjoy romping around the Georgia back roads. I saw a VR and stator on ebay last night. |
