Captainplanet:
If you do end up taking off your headers yourself, I would be interested in knowing how it goes (overall difficulty, things you wish you hadn't scratched, etc.). Having my headers coated may be my spring project. Till then, I will enjoy the heat from the pipes this winter.

Chainsaw,

Unless it gets really cold here this winter and I decide to drive the car a few weeks, I won't be able to stand the time it takes for Jet Hot to do the coating. Plus I thought 150 plus shipping was a bit high. I'll be sure and post notes here if I do it though.

When I was quoted a Jethot coating price, it was more like $400. I was looking for a more heating retaining feature.Maybe thats why it was higher, a diff process? If I could have got my header done for $100 to $200 I would have done it. They said the coating would have kept the heat in better than than the wrap. I find that hard to believe, those of you with the coating can you put your hand on it(right out of the exhaust port) after about 10 runs at the drag strip?

The jet hot on my S1 seems to be dulling some around the exhaust port area, with maybe 3 to 5k miles on the pipe. It still looks good though.

The wrap would make a nice bumper if you ever drop it and I think it probably retains heat much better.

It took about 2 days to get my pipe back. (Total off and on)

Of course the coating place is about 5 miles from my shop. It was just over 100.00 if I recall correctly. They coated it inside and out and it looks great.

Captainplanet: $150 is a great deal for what they do. For $150 two years ago, they coated my HOG's 2-1 header, heatshields, clamps and muffler. They clean the pipes thoroughly inside and out, remove all corrosion if it applies, they can even repair for an extra charge, then base coated with their platinum finish, then overlayed the Jet Hot 2000 coating (matte black finish). It dissipates heat fast enough so that I can clamp my hand around any part of the header within 2 minutes of shutting down after a hard day of running between 5000-7000 rpm. Try that with chrome! While running, an HVAC friend measured between 30-40 degrees drop in temp, with his infrared temp guage. My inner thigh is pretty happy too, no more uneven tan.
Perhaps the best reason to get the Jet Hot is that it is 14X more resistant to corrosion than chrome (in an accelerated salt spray test) and it resists burn thru a hell of a lot better. Drag racers typically get 4X the life span out of their headers and that's saying a lot. As an added bonus, their finish is rated at 3.2 rms the last time I looked, something that might help with scavenging. Plus it looks more attractive than wrap. The platinum coating is gorgeous these days.

Get the Race ECM. The bike will run so much smoother, and almost totally eliminates stumbling.

Jose:

Pollutants in the atmosphere are removed by photochemical reactions. The trouble starts when we put to much in the same place. An analogy would be "a piss in the ocean" versus "a piss in a pool". The problem is that even "a piss in your tub" it is still hard to sense.

The worst US cities are getting 200 ppb Ozone during summer episodes. Mexico city gets 800 ppb every day. The CARB has been looking into every possible emitter left out there to furhter reduce LA smog. Their present targets are 2 cycle powerd jet skis, leaf blowers and even model airplanes.

The fault with this approach is that they do not seem to be looking into the quantity of the emitters. What possible effect will cleaning up motorcycle emissions is going to have on the air if they represent only one of every 500 vehicles and are usually recreational so that they represent an even smaller ratio of the running population?

Like head injuries, which occurr far more frequently to people traveling in cars, but the protective head gear is only mandatory in 2 wheelers. What possible effect will this policy have on the public burden when it does not impact the majority of the events?

I just got back from a mercury conference in DC. The goverment (EPA) is going after the power industry for a total cost of 5 billion to all of us in order to reduce their mecury emissions. What they seem to overlook is that only 10% of the mercury deposition comes form the electricity generating industry. What possoble effect is this going to have on the total mercury in the air?

Hey guys, I picked up a slightly used, but still broken, Borla slip on for my Y2K M2 today from the salvage yard. It is very straight and polished up real nice!!

Now here is the problem:HELP: the 2 ream hangers where the pipe bolts to the fram are both broken off!! They were 1/4" by 3/4" stainless steel straps, welded to the pipe, and very beefy looking to have been broken off!! I REALLY want to put this pipe on somehow, and was curious what the "pros" would recommend!! I love the look of the carbon fibre, and it is way light and gorgeous to look at in the sunlight. I have heard these have a great sound to them, and really want to put it on!!

Help guys, PLEASE!! I was thinking buying some universal hangers from Pep Boys or something, as none of the Exhaust places around here are willing to work with stainless that thick, and the one said it may even be a safety concern!! Good point, but come on, if you cant or dont want to do it, just tell me, you know!!

Thanks guys, please help, having exhaust withdrawls!!

Congressmen who try to reduce the power of the EPA and bring some common sense to their spoutings are branded anti-environmentaists by the Sierra Club and others (who spend most of their funds on political ads bashing these congressmen and very little actually cleaning anything up) and they are subsequently not reelected. Remember the hell they put GW through when he tried to roll back some EPA laws?

Shhh… The following post has NOTHING what so ever to do with Buell but I don’t want Blake to find out.

Does anyone know of a web site that would tell me everything I ever wanted to know about Alfred Hichcock’s old movie PYSCHO?

I will be going to a Halloween party and will be playing a Trivial Pursuit type of game based on that movie.

Thanks, Ray

Wouldn't that be cheating?
Besides nobody has answered my question about the difference between the XB primary tension and the updated one for the tube Buells. Hey, maybe we should start a Buell edition of Trivial Pursuit!

Just got word today from my dealer about my X1 that broke while at the Gap.

Jeff at Ukes just called me & told me they got the fax from Buell about any possible goodwill. Buell said NO! Fuck Buell! It doesnt fall under the scope of their goodwill program is the way it was stated to me.

Never ever again will I purchase anything related to Buell. And yes I will go to any & all extremes to bad mouth the bikes & the company. Wait till next yrs open house. I am probably gonna get arrested.

You know what's bad...my Buell is now the only running vehicle in my household.

I've gotta do a lot of work on my girl's Yamaha powered Ford...a Taurus SHO. Granted, it's done nearly 100,000 miles without any major incident (A/C failed several times and the sunroof motor, radio , a couple clutches, etc, have died) but it's major surgery to work on anything under the hood. Her water pump basically burst today. It also needs a new timing belt, accessory belts, a tune up, and valve lash adjustment. What a bitch. Sure isn't like working on a good 'ol V-8 Chevy

I've got the taxi and grocery getter for now. I pity the fool that has to sit on the back of my passenger peg-less S1!

...and you guys think Buells are bad for recalls/service bulletins...look at any of the major auto manufacturers for any year here. Considering how new Buell is, I think they've been doing pretty good.

Dyna,

Life is too short to focus your carma on negative emotions. Contact an attorney and file a lemon law claim. Sell the bike or fix it yourself. The experience may be a positive one. You think anyone at Buell actually intended for your bad experience to happen? Bubble up the issue to management, write Erik a letter in a professional tone. Stay focused on the positive. Heck, come visit me in East Texas, I'll let you flog my M2.

Josh, no it means it broke 5 other times under warranty & now this is the 3rd time for the same issue & its out of warranty. Its an ongoing issue that obviously has never been corrected from day 1.

Blake, I am working towards a resolution right now, it just takes times for the wheels of justice to get moving.

Without even knowing "what" broke, I can offer a couple tips that may, based on Buell's history of going LIGHT YEARS beyond their legal obligations, be of help in resolving your issues.

>>>Its an ongoing issue that obviously has never been corrected from day 1.
If, in fact, that is true you'll have not one lick of trouble getting the NHTSA to take up your cause for you.

>>>Contact an attorney and file a lemon law claim.
But....prior to doing that, make SURE your state HAS a lemon law. One very humbled owner once waved his saber at the HD folks, who were well aware that the army he was spouting off about being behind him, was no more real than Don Quixote's windmills. Know your rights, before you threaten. (NOTE: I have a VERY similar situation going with another entity and I WILL win)

HELPFUL HINT REGARDING LEMON LAWS: Many such procedures provide for "reasonable use and depreciation" at a rate on the order of $0.27 per mile. I had occasion to deal with one very unpleasant person who was going to put Buell in their place and show the "HD Machine" a thing or two.

He'd flogged his bike for something like 29,000 miles through the Arizona desert. I don't have an opinion and won't hazard a guess as to who's fault the problems were, it's unimportant for this example.

Bottom line: He won. HD wrote him a check for $2,170 ($10,000 less depreciation as provided by the statute) and took his bike and the title.

He got precisely what he THOUGHT he wanted.

HINT: Harley-Davidson & Buell WANT (and want very much) to resolve problems.

SUGGESTION: Loose the "F" word, stay tight to your dealer (the most likely person to profit from your staying in the HD/Buell family) and follow a few simple dispute resolution guidelines. The goal, you must never loose sight of, is to WIN not to shout the loudest.

Anyway...not meant to be a smarty pants comment, but few people have as much Buell problem resolution experiecne as I've gained and I really want to see folks problems solved and can assure you that Erik Buell has never, in 15 years, ever tried to wiggle out of anything that was his, or the companies, responsibility.

Court (just my $0.02 worth.....)
