Just a quick general note to say how much I appreciate all you guys (and gals) being out there and the info you share. My '00 M2 recently began to sound like I was friggin' Flash Gordon circling in to land (how many of you remember Flash Gordon or Buck Rodgers?). I did a word search on BADWEB and was pointed to the solution. A simple thing really, but pretty damn puzzling for a non-mechanical type like me. A buddy and I (along with a contingent from Detroit) ventured down to the rained out Deal's Gap weekend. I was hoping to talk with many of you (we ought to have name tags with everyone's on-line nicknames to recognize each other). Unfortunately, we couldn't even do that. We arrived to the BBQ late and nearly everyone had cleared out due to the report of approaching rain. In addition to placing faces with names, I was looking forward to wearing out my tires from the weekend's rides. Oh well, another time I suppose. H-man |

Well, the oil tank shows a proper fill level. Can't think of another reason other than the gasket just let go. S.C. |

The saga of my piece o crap X1 continues. The pile broke at deals gap & its terminal. My local dealer just pulled it apart & it appears the oil pump is screwed, cams are missing teeth, bent pushrod, hole in piston, etc. I told them I wanted Buell to cover it & already I am getting the old "Buell is being sticklers & your bike is out of warranty" Its 14 months old & this is the 6th time its in the shop, 4th time for major issues. I am so sick of this shit. |

Dyna... Not to be a Jerk... But what the heck do you guys do to these bikes.... I've got 15K and absolutly "no leave me on the side of the road" problems.... I have a 98 S3(Carb)... I use Mobil 1 and Redline Supershock Heavy... I don't beat the PISS out of it... and keep an eye out for potential problems (oil level, tire pressure, loose bolts, leaks, and on and on)... The point is I think we all know we own a prema-donna.... and it needs to be looked after like one... However, I can understand your frustration... I just have'nt had the "BIG BREAKDOWN" yet... Looking at your profile though... I think you need to break out the chicken bones and candles...... |

ya see, thats the problem, some people DO beat the piss out of their Buells and nothing ever goes wrong. Some can ride them like a parade bike and they will grenade. Its a crap shoot with Buells. One of the recent cycle mags had a interview with a Buell tech recently, and he even said that the company was beyond the "quality control and reliability issues of past models" (not an exact quote, so dont jump all over me). So when an employee of the company admits there was/is trouble with them, what else can you say? Some people can put up with it as just part of the price of owning a Buell. Thats fine. Hell owners of old British bikes put up with all kinds of stuff, and LOVE the bikes (I like my old Trumpet, even though at this point its trouble free). I know I had to put up with all kinds of break-downs when I owned Harleys, and I still like them. But some people dont think the trade off is worth it. I still love mine. Buying my Buell was the best money I ever spent, wouldnt trade it for the world. But some whould argue its not the best bike they've ever bought, and I dont think you could argue with them on that point. |

Some people have had good luck, some very very bad luck. Chibueller, Lurch, Vik,Cecil, Me, & many many others have had numerous issues. Often times catastrophic in nature. The worst thing I do is wheelies. Im not banging the rev limiter, Im not riding at 140 mph, etc. The last few times it has blown up, I have been taking a nice leisurely pace & yet still shit happens. You know how it goes, all companies end up producing a few lemons, Ford, GM, etc, they all have their problem vehicles. It just seems like Buell has more than your average manufacturer. It definately appears as if the oil pump possibly starved the cams, leading to total failure this time. Oil light never came on, no unusal noises, no nothing. Just out of the blue it up & dies. |

Someone earlier posted a picture of the new Suzuki SV1000. Well, it comes in a naked version too! And the SV650 and SV650S have been revamped to look just like the SV1000, and it is now Fuel Injected! Just thought y'all would like to know. |

Something about the new SV just ain't right. Can't quite put my finger on it. Just too much busy going on. They should have run the can under the seat at least. |

It's the squared of frame instead of the round tubing. My husband was griping about that too. But I don't know if he'd trade in his SV650s... maybe for one of the 1000s some day. *sigh* Two inches taller and I can ride one of those suckers. Damn genetics. |

Jenkat131 - somehow I dont think you will have a problem riding it - but stopping it at a junction and not falling over might be difficult.....REALLY shiny nylon trousers can help... but are a real disadvantage under heavy acceleration.......dont ask how I know...... |

Dyna & everyone else with "issues" When life gives you Lemons, Take a Picture of it! I Figured the whole bike is a shame, so I almost left it under that tree. Thanks to Matt for the Picture, and Dave S. for the idea! |

To Jo`se Dyna and others with "issues" Damn!! It's been a long time since I posted here. Big Bird ( 98 S 3-T yellow of course) is closing in fast on 32,000 miles. Been riding mostly trouble free last year and most of this year. Will have to address some "issues" this winter such as small oil weeping around oil pump and 3rd gear is now going Ker-Klunk instead of Klunk. I here Jim's makes a good shifting drum and detent assembly. Any body have one of these? Would probably do good to renew the rocker gaskets also.I agree some buells last when ridden in anger and some self destruct when treated like a baby. I also say if you use your buell a lot you should be on the lookout for possible problems. Haven't been street riding as much this year, have borrowed a Yamaha xt 350 from my brother to do some dirty riding, forgot how much fun that was and how out of shape I was. I don't think my bro is gonna get his xt back. Also when is a good time to replace the drive belt. mine looks good ,appears to be wearing smooth and no chunks or tears in it. Talk to ya later, Brian |

Blake: Move this to NC-17 and I'm gonna fine you..... I'm thinking that folks from Henry Kissinger to Colin Powell would have paid big bucks to insure Bonneville was dry and that these impressionable foreigners had not fallen into the TEAM ELVES Social Graces & Etiquette School. Close your eyes.....think of the scariest moment you ever remember. Now....think of Jim Higgins, with a couple cool ones on board, teaching our guests the "American Way". I leave these guys alone for 2 days and what do I get but Hollandish Cops looting ATM's....Danes passed out on trampolines and poor, innocent Susan Wilson held hostage in a grocery store parking lot. World, I hereby serve notice, that I have issued the ultimatum to Jilles that he, in my absence, is serving as the OFFICIAL TEAM ELVES SCRIBE and if there are not updates on the www.teamelves.com website when I wake tomorrow, that boys' packing back to Europe with a LOAD OF PATCHES~! Man....the Racing was cancelled....the crests were fallen for a few moments...but they've rebounded like a golf ball hurled against a concrete wall! In the word's of B. C. Forbes..... Have any of you XB guys had your primary cover off? I checked the XB parts book the other day and found the part number is different from the "updated" tensioner. The picture in the parts book is pretty crude but appears to be the same basic design. I would be interested to know what the difference is. Greg (Blake, I posted this in the knowledge vault but thought I would post it here for maximum exposure.) |

Yes 'tis true, young Jilles and Fireman Jim gave us fine symphony of wind and flowers ! Make that wind that doesn't smell like flowers and you might be thinking along the right lines Trust me when I tell you this, do not, I repeat, do not, sit yourself within 20ft of these guys when they've been on the beer and hamburgers. Phew man these guys 'pen and ink'. I can report however that young brother Jilles has been masterful in his duty to the world outside of Colorado, and indeed completed the task in hand. No not that task you buffoons, the task of reporting the antics of the Colorado Wrecking Crew. Now has anyone seen where his reports are ? Tomorrow brings us another day of riding. Canyons , canyons, canyons and more canyons. As it goes I think there's a little bit of friendly 'needle' between the various riders gathered. With the pace been rather 'steady' for reasons I explained earlier, there's a little of that hanging back thing going on, which breaks up the procession. So you just wait for the right moment, after you let several riders pass, then give it the berries and shoot back up to the front. Ok we're not Edwards at Laguna Seca, but you got to remember, Bob(X1 glider) turned up on one of those Harley bikes so we have to make some allowances, right What a dick this guy Bob, he leaves his X1 in Texas and comes to a Buell party on a wart-Hog, which he's never gonna win anything on except 'the wooden spoon' trophy. So if anyone wants to come and hang with us, and race for the 'wooden spoon' accolades..................more fool you he he just don't forget to bring your own bike. They're in short supply around these parts. Warning !! Any rider participating in the Race of Canyons must not exceed the spirit of gentleman, or lady (sissy in the case of Jilles), riding, or patch fines will be instigated. See you tomorrow.............. Rocket |

THANK YOU AARON! The Sportster List Race Team had a GREAT time at your vast motorsports retreat. A 1500 mile drive is quite a distance to party with the likes of Rocketman but hey.... how many folks here in the colonies can make that claim. It was very, very nice to see those from last year and meet a few new Buelligans. As much as I HATE the drive, I certainly hope that we can all do it again next year. ~Crim~ ~Roadkill~ 180 MPH Sportster Sportster List Race Team http://www.sportster.org |

I go away for a few days from the keyboard and Rocket's gotta take the piss outta me behind my back. Oh god, now I'm talking like that English tosser. He's just mad because he is having a hard time keeping up. Nevertheless, the beer is flowing as is good conversation with new found friends. BWB proves that it is not on the screen I am currently looking at, but here in Berthoud. More good times to come over the next few days. |

Sharkus here. Just wanted to thank everyone who insisted I get a race ECM on my X1. After my dealer reset the TPS and put on an easy adjustable idle it is a world of difference. Warms up quicker, roll on power is smooth and strong from 2,000 rpm to redline. Now...after reading all of the posts in the last couple of weeks I have just one more question. My Buell is a 99 X1 with 1085 miles...when should I expect it to blow up, spring an oil leak, not start, start running crappy or just plain up and die. I'm an agressive rider but not one of these hardcore riders doing stoppies, wheelies into 4th or 5th gear or riding around corners with sparks flying from the pegs. I really like my Buell since I bought it 5 weeks ago but after reading some of these stories...well I just get this feeling that I don't want to ride out of the city, much less a 210 ride to Myrtle Beach. |
