We thank you Cessna. Unfortunately for me, missing half of my left foot, I was never allowed in the military. I tried all the branches only to get "we want those with all appendages." I guess it didn't matter that I was in the best shape of my life and could get through basic with the greatest of ease, and still can 15 years later. So I went to college instead. So, I guess I thank everyone who did and is doing their part. | ||

Interesting post, that EPA thing. However, note that it applies to FUTURE model years, not past or current. Since the cottage industries that produce aftermarket engine parts are already making parts for these machines, that will continue. Also, there are many, many ways to modify an engine to make more power that will NOT affect overall emissions, as witnessed by the number of worked Civics running around (that pass emissions tests in states that require them). For motorcycles with full bodywork, fitment of EGR systems would be transparent to the end user, but would significantly reduce NOX emissions. In addition, catalytic converters have been used on cars for years, and high-flow models are available. They could be used in combination with lower-restriction mufflers for a minimal loss in performance. And, "cat-back" exhaust systems are all the rage in the compact car scene, again where emissions targets still have to be met. These systems are made by the "cottage industries". Sorry for the long diatribe, but it seems there is a general misunderstanding of what pollution controls cost in terms of performance. For proof that performance can exist with controls, a current corvette is an excellent example. That car uses a pushrod V (sound familiar?) to produce "world class" performance while meeting US and CA emissions regulations. Okay, I'll put my soapbox away now. | ||

Anony: I don't even like the lil' bolt and I'd buy one over the 900SS. I've ridden both and this is my opinion: Simplicity. As many problems as I've had with my X1, I've seen worse with Ducatis. Power: About equal between the two. Handling: Hands down, lil' bolt wins big here. Refinement: I would give this to the Duc. Ducs are works of art. Value: You get more bang for the buck with the lil' bolt. So, the bolt is lighter, handles better, goes faster and has plenty of uniqueness. Between those two, the bolt is an easy winner. At the same time, I'd pick up a new ZX6R or R6 or CBR600F4i instead of either of those and I'm not a 600 fan, either... Vik | ||

The nations security depends on the guard and the reserves ... it's all part of the total force concept. With the reduction of active duty military numbers, we rely on them to get the job done. They are everywhere and defending our nation. If the ROE (rules of engagement) orders visual presence but no weapon in some airport at a low threat checkpoint...that's all there is to it. It's a carefully calculated operational risk management. Go ahead and believe the no ammo rumors where it really needs to be...do ya feel lucky?  DAve | ||

Yup, Thanks to all of our armed forces. Dad, Grandpa and Grandpa were all military men, I was set to be a marine until diagnosed with diabetes in my early teens. Buellers, My 2000 S3 with 12K has stock exhaust and intake. I am considering replacing the stock muffler with the D & D slip-on. Would the addition of the just muffler likely affect performance? Would simultaneous alteration of the air intake system be necessary (advisable?) for performance to be enhanced? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Jon | ||

XB9S Release Date.....My local dealer has given me 3 different dates. Date #1: According to a factory "insider", they were supposed to see the first shipments in late September. Date #2: According to another factory "insider", they should be arriving in October. Date #3: The Buell Motor Company line: Sometime in the fourth quarter. No matter when they ship, it will most likely be too late in the year for most of the country. IMHO, they should release new models in either mid-August to mid-September or wait until spring. There's no way I'll buy a new bike when the snow flying!!!! | ||

I'll have to pass on ASB's BBQ too but only 'cause I'll be Elfin' it on the Salt trying to push a kitted Firebolt over 130. ASB will be riding with me though. I installed their tall windshield last weekend in the hopes that I'll be able to tuck outta the wind blast somewhat. It works well at freeway speeds & above too by creating a relative low pressure area at the front of the helmet thus lessening neck strain. Sparky 96S1, 98S3, 03NineR | ||

I found rearsets for XB's...they also make 'em for S1/W and X1, M2 and S3...but those are very pricey. IMO they're the best I've seen. http://www.satoracing.com/rearsetstop.htm |
