Tricklidz, you can also get an angled pipe wrench with no teeth from Home Depot for about $23.00. Its small & works great. Sam from Il Harley & Buell was running around at Blackhawk on trackday adjusting everyones shock with mine You can find a pic of 1 here. Ara in reply to your question what kind of coatings and how mich? Pistons: domes coated with thermal barrier coating & skirts coated with ceramic based drt film lube. $25.00 each Combustion chambers, valve faces,radius & stem coated with thermal barrier & dry film lube. $40.00 each chamber assembly. Exhaust ports, at same time as chamber, with thermal barrier coating. $15.00 each. Intake ports, at same time as chamber, with insulating and fuel dispersing coating. $15.00 each. Valve springs with a heat emitting coating. $1.75 per coil. Rocker boxes with an oil shedding coating, faster oil return to the sump. $5.00 each. Exterior of cylinders & heads with a heat emitting coating originally developed for the military. Heat is transfered approximatly 10% better than bare or painted aluminum. this coating makes clean up a breeze as mud & road grime do not stick to it. coating has a black semi-gloss appearance. this is not powder coating which tends to retain heat instead of dispersing it. Heads 50.00 each cylinders $60.00 each. This is a shopping list of things to coat once the upper end is disassembled. Any questions just holler. | ||

Hi All, Just saw a brace of M2's on NW Expwy and 63rd Street in OKC. I was the guy you could not hear over the dual V&H's in the red Dodge with GW2 decals. One was a black (Hey Blake!!!) 97M2 and the second the new body style. Was very nice to hear. One of these days when I have more time maybe I can get back to riding again. I have the race header and muffler, SE High Perf. cams, Woods air cleaner(2.75" Twin Cam style modified for the X1)and ran the stock ECM while waiting for the race ECM with no real trouble. There was a little surging at 3000-3500 rpm but nothing other than that. Race ECM works way better and hope to improve even more when I reinstall the PCII. From what I have seen some bikes are less affected than others as far as the ECM is concerned. I had a friend install the air cleaner and muffler with the stock ECM and the bike ran like crap, however as long as he had only the air cleaner or the header with the stock ECM the bike ran fine. When the race ECM was installed the bike came to life. The open to closed loop happens at 3500rpm according to the scanalyzer taped to my fuel tank while I was riding it for whatever that is worth. | ||

Flapjack, I sent you an email asking whether there is any benefit to using stainless over mild steel when building an exhaust, if it is going to be coated anyway. I am curious about this point where the ECM switches from open to closed loop. On mine when I take off with a cold engine it runs rough for about a mile. After that it makes an obvious shift to running smoother. This is at all RPMs. I can't figure out why it would wait until 3500rpm to switch to closed. At 75mph I am running 3300rpm. That would make a large percentage of general riding in the open loop mode. Anybody who really knows this have an answer? Mike | ||

Well, it became official today. I willingly move to Pusan, Korea just after the New Year. I leave for Korea tomorrow afternoon, not just for work but to also find a place to live and suitable transport for my year long stay. Landyachts like Goldwings and HD tourers are quite common and there's even an HD dealer and an Easyriders (in North Korea). I will find something nonetheless. Most likely something cheap but sporty. Motorcycles are NOT allowed on the expressways so it must be a bike that can handle backroads well. Perhaps a V-strom type of bike. Man, I'm looking forward to cooler weather and scenery that isn't just brown. Perhaps I'll also get lucky enough to find a nice looking, subservient Korean girl willing to please me! I can dream, can't I? | ||

Max said he was suprised by that wheelie, which I thought was very frank of him at the time because he was openly smiling when he said it, and I believed him. That's why I can't wheelie (not power wheelie) for toffee, I can't get the back brake thing. See I never had any real off road experience when I was younger. But hey, as wheelies go I thought Max's wheelie was fantastic because it showed his brilliance on a bike just in the 'save' itself. Great video Pete Who was the racer that went running along both sides of his bike ? Mamola maybe ? Another great 'save' . Be nice to see that on here too...... Rocket | ||

To Flapjack and whom it may concern, My old machinist(3 years retired) did the total thermal barrier coating on his small block chevy race motor(70 nova drag car, high 10s) and he couldn't get any heat in the motor, made less power than before he coated it, the stuff worked too well! He ended up pulling the heads and bead blasting the coating off JUST THE CUMBUSTION CHAMBER, leaving everything else, inc. the valves coated, and that solved his problem. Now, being totally ignorant on the subject myself, I don't know that this would hold true for our motors, or even any application other than his, and considering this was about a half dozen years ago, it may not apply today. But, food for thought, anyway... | ||

Mike, I mistakenly posted 3500rpm. Quoted from the X1 service manual: "The Buell DDFI operates both as an open and closed loop system which allows it to adjust for all possible operating conditions. High lift cams make it necessary for an open loop system at idle and at wide open throttle. During open loop operation, the system utilizes program fuel and spark maps in the ECM which provide stable idle and ease of cold starting, and maximum power at wide open throttle(WOT). During closed loop operation, the system relies on input from the O2 sensor to provide for the most efficient, stoichiometric air fuel mixture (14.6:1) which results in reduced emissions, good fuel economy and power. In order for the system to enter closed loop operation, the following conditions must be met: * O2 Sensor at operating temperature (Engine at normal operating temperature). *Operation above 2500 RPM with engine under load (approximately 40-60 mph in 4th or 5th gear). By using both open and closed loop systems, engine performance is continuosly tuned to compensate for changing conditions and provide maximum performance."
