No neighborhood would be worth living in that didn't allow you to park or wash a car in the driveway or have a motorcycle either. I'd rather spend my time riding my bike than fighting the ignorant a-holes that would come up with that stupid rule. |

One of the major reason I was attracted to the X1 was the aluminum tail. I thought it gave the bike even more of a visual character than any other brand. This guy ruined his...Seeing these made me miss mine even more since it was stolen... Wonder at what speed would these guys be pulling to the right ? Roderick |

NC Bueller, I think Josh is mistaken. The only mufflers that I know of that will fit the race kit are the D&D and the factory race mufflers. Race kit muffler are very short due to the 9-1/2" longer race header. Some of our Japanese Buell riding brothers seem to have adapted the eRAM type of electric blower(s) to their intakes. Not any worse than the stock intake. Personally, I'd paint them black though. I wonder what kind of performance boost they are seeing? |

I guessed that it had to be electric, but even though I'm from Hawaii, the best I could do was pidgin Japanese and that was a looooong time ago. Roderick |

Blake: Thanks The info from Josh was appreciated, however, from what I understand, you are on the right track about the race header being longer, than the stock header. I'll try to determine the legnth that will fit the X1. Ride Safe |

Blake, All you need is a straight muffler with a 2.5" inlet and an overall length of (I think) 19". I'm running a Stainless Specialties muffler now and had a WestTek on it before. It actually should be pretty easy to fab one - Aaron made one for me in his garage in a few minutes out of an exhaust resonator tip. The other thing you need is a strap to hold the rear up to the stock Z bracket. If nothing else, get one of those cheap "cherry bomb" mufflers from an auto parts place for $40 and then a stainless strap from Stainless Specialties for $15. Incidentally my very nice polished stainless steel muffler cost me $189+strap from SS. But I had them make it with a 3" outlet and it's just too loud. If anyone wants to trade their quiet race muffler for this one and cash, let me know. And, left over from the WestTek I have a stainless elbow that would bolt this one, the race muff, cherry bomb etc to the stock head pipe. Can't believe I haven't seen more of this as it's pretty easy. Josh |

Blake, you're right. What's the best way to answer a question in one thread with an answer in another? Does it waste bandwidth to post the answer twice, or is it better to post the answer in the appropriate KV thread, then post a link to the answer wherever the original question appeared? I'll try to do the right thing if you'll tell me what the right thing is! r-t |

Mikej, Finally got a response from CARB - CARB wrote: "Any and all vehicles registered in the state of CA have to have a smog check and be compliant with our maintenance requirements. The only difference that exists between goverment and private sector applies to emergency response (ERV) vehicles. In those instances, those ERV's that are needed can be purchased if they only meet Federal standards and not California when those vehicles are not available for the CA market. Under those circumstances, CA agencies can get a waiver, but make no mistake only for ERV's." Mike, I believe you posted awhile back that State and Gov't vehicles were exempt re Smog. CARB says only emergency vehicles are exempt. Seems like you were misinformed on that issue. Take care, Jim in Santa Barbara |

Jim what the law says and what happens in reality are completely differnet things. California has long been a do as I say not as I do state. Many state/local Gov. vehicles that knowingly can't pass smog are stickered and sent back out on the road because they don't have the money to repair/replace them. As much as I enjoyed Kalifornia I will never live there again I just can't put up with all the BS |

RT, It's up to the person starting the thread to post their question in the right topic. Most are pretty good, but lately I've noticed a return to the GDB of technical questions. No big deal really, but every now and then a good one comes up that I wish had been filed in the KV instead. I guess we could start relegating people to the Hall of Shame or fining more patches when they violate the forum's organizational etiquette. |

ChadleyS1 asked... "Blake, I found out you are from Texas. Are you going to the Thrills in the Hills rally? At this point, it looks like it is going to be a great run! Call Austin HD 512-448-4294 and ask for Billy Davis for more information. If you are already going, that info is for everybody else. Thanks." Wish I could, sure would be fun. But I'll be in Bonneville watching a Buell break the 200mph barrier. Sorry it took so long to reply to your question. I missed it among the pictures on the Cool Pics: People/Action/Adventure Pics page. Y'all need to get your buddies and get to a CMRA race day school before the season is over. Then you can come out and blast around Oak Hill Raceway all fall/winter/spring for only $50/day. Check out http://www.cmraracing.com click on "schedule". Two races remaining. New racer school is on Saturday morning. Contact info should be provided. DO IT!!! If you do, you WILL be thanking me later. |

Court: No thanks, man, I ain't comin' to NYC. I did that before, when I was younger. Made my eyes burn. 'specially there around Bleeker St., where I had a girl friend. Had to hide my 650 Trumpet in her locked doorway at night. She wasn't worth the trouble. My eyes burned just fine in Bridgeport. And don't you worry about what we're smokin'down here. We're doin' just fine, thanks. |

ELF-LY SPEAKING. . . . . Okay. . . it's time to start getting ready. I am going to be posting frequent updates to insure ensure we've covered our bases. COOLERS: If you are arriving in a vehicle and can bring a cooler, it'd help. We're set up to pick up a pallet of liquid sustenance at Costco in Salt Lake City. Coolers it makes no sense to buy and trash and they are no cost effective to ship. ACTION: If you can bring a cooler (be sure to put your name on it) send an e-mail to Vick at teambuellelves@aol.com and put "Cooler" and your name in the subject line. FLAGS: I suspecte we are going to arrive at The Bonneville Salt Flats with one of the greatest representations of countries around the world. We have TEAM ELVES flags and are encouraging folks coming from other Countries to bring a flag from their country to be flown over the TEAM ELVE pits. ACTION: If you can bring a flag send an e-mail to Vick at teambuellelves@aol.com and put "Flag from ___________ (country)" and your name in the subject line. GROUND CONTROL: I need someone to act as the TEAM ELVES GROUND CONTROLLER. This person will be responsible for maintaining communication with teams, recovery vehicles and those in the queue for 130/150 cClub runs. You'll keep track of the days schedule. You'll maintain communiction with recovery vehicles to insure they are in the right place at the right time so no ELF waits. You'll receive communication from the recovery vehicle and make sure it gets to the pits if the ELF needs anything prepared when he/she and the bike return to the pits. It'll entail keeping track of where all TEAM ELVES assets (bikes, vehicles and talent) are deployed at all times. Requirements: 1) Ability to speak a ton of languages. 2) Ability to understand and work with Rocket 3) Ability to work long shifts w/o going to restroom 4) Keen sense of orgnaization. ACTION: Drop me a note if you are interested and can help. Court |
