Djkaplan: I will definitely do that as soon as I get my bars on. I've made some other minor changes since I took that picture... On another note, I was snooping around at the motorcycle.com ftp site and found a folder called...Buell! Inside are a lot of mpegs of old commercials and interviews about the bikes. Check it out: ftp://ftp.motorcycle.com/pub/buell/ |

r-t, Thanks and thanks again. Just could not pass on this one, the polished stock wheels just set it off. Some tlc today and tomorrow to catch up on the routine stuff. It hasn't seen any use so far this year. You are right though, this IS what one should look like. Bry |

Fog, I didn't get any mail, or maybe I accidently deleted it with a bunch of spam. Try again. When my bank angle sensoor went belly up the bike would start and run, and then die, but would start up again immediately, then run for a minute or two, and then die. When it died it was just like shutting off switch, it didn't sputter, it just died. It sounds like your bank angle sensor is different than the one on the S-3, there's no reset button on the S-3 I think I have a spare 'sensor arm' too, but I doubt if its the same on your bike. the sensor arm is under the right side cover, works like the points providing the impulse to the coil. Check with someone who knows, if these parts are interchangeable it would save you couple hundred dollars 'shot gunning' for a solution. You can pay me if you use the parts, send them back if you don't need them. Paul |

Scott, pull your plugs and crank the engine, if you don't get fuel shooting back out of the plug holes your injectors or fuel pump are faulty. Check the wires to the injectors carefully for breaks, I had one injector fail because of a broken wire connector. Doesn't seem likely that both wires would break simultaneously. Blake, I'm not that nice, I haven't spent much time lately in the archives. Been very busy accomplishing very little. Paul |

Scott, You need to figure out if its gas or spark. I'd yank the air cleaner and see if the injectors throw fuel. If they do check all the stuff fogcity is checking. If they don't, throw a car-type fuel pressure gauge on the Schrader valve upstream of the fuel filter. You should have (uhm?) 50psi. If you have pressure and no gas, check the connections. Auto parts places sell a 'noid that plugs into the fuel injector harness in place of the injectors and will tell you if the wiring is good and the ECM is trying to send gas. If all that works replace the injectors as they're clogged (like mine were) or dead. Then beg the nice admin to move this thread to the proper KV. Josh no spell check, long day, I'm going to bed |

Snail - The e-mail I sent was basically saying thanks for such a generous offer. I'm taking the bike in Monday for a speedo sensor replacement and I'm going to have them keep the bike for a week in an effort to find the problem. If they tell me I'm out of luck, and if I find out that your coil, etc, will fit into my M2, then I would like to take you up on that kind offer: I'll get back to you and let you know either way in about a week. Thanks, Paul. |

Blake, This group of people makes it all the better. I think it makes a worthy replacement for the missing M2. I have ditched the thought of a twin-tail for it also. Gonna look for a S2 or a (carbed)S3 next year. What am I doing? I am becoming a multi-Buell owner...... HELP A couple things I really do miss though. I got way to accustomed to the Banke shifter and brake pieces. Just gonna have to wait for the insurance to settle out and see what appears. Any one running the pro-series rear sets? Wondering about the SRQ(as Reg put it in B2W) as compared to the stock set-up. Loki |

Hi all: This is my first post here so hope I am doing things correctly. Saw the picture of Loki's S1. Damn those things are sharp. Have owned my S1 for several years now and just love it. you can make whatever you want out of it, roadracer rep, street fighter, or darn near a xr750 replica. Was on the Buell site yesterday and saw that CHROME HEEL GUARDS are now available for the XB. I believe this is the problem with Buell, they have no idea what we want. In the FIREBOLT i believe the have answered the question that no one has asked. Bring back an updated tube framed(just like those evil handeling Ducks have) S1 with an 88cuin twin carbed engine, old style body work and it would be a hit all over again. Enough of my rambeling, my one finger is getting tired. |

Hi Guys, I've got to be the most stupid and bla bla... I guess You get the picture;-) Yesterday I thought I'd do something about the ugly "arm" on the front isolator mount on my M2 (you know, the fastening point for the breadbox). And what happens, the aluminium cast is full of cavities ("pores"... It looks like crap, I was not able to get even close to a decent surface.. Today, I tried to fix this with some help from a professional welder. The result was even worse than before.. The alloy used is a bit odd and the part behaves just like real sh**ty aluminium. Has anyone had a similar experience? If so, what was the cure? I'm kinda desperate (I'm even worried that the part wont hold together when riding) so if anyone has any tips on what to do, I'd be more then happy!! Worst case, I'll replace the mount with a stock Buell or a billet one (If someone can make it..) Are the isolator mount interchangeable between the Buell models, I know there are differencies, like for example the breadbox mount, but I mean the same geometry between the head - isolator/frame? If so, which model to select to get rid of the breadbox mount? Does anyone have one lying about??? I just can´t seem to stop wondering why I always have to mess things up... Anyway, thanks for your time! Cheers/ Jonas |

Took the S1 out for a short hop today. Is it me or the small tush cushion. Compared to the M2 it felt like I was sitting so much higher. Yet I was completely flat footed...... This may take some getting used to. |

Josh writes:
Auto parts places sell a 'noid that plugs into the fuel injector harness in place of the injectors and will tell you if the wiring is good and the ECM is trying to send gas.
Can you provide more detail on this Josh? I'm not exactly sure what you are describing. On another note, I have the fuel pressure gauge and I'm going to spend some time looking at the bike tonight after it cools down a bit outside. It's about 107 right now. One more thing. Does the ECM have the capability to provide spark, but due to a possible failure, not provide a signal to the injectors? I wondering if maybe the ECM is preventing fuel from getting past the injectors. I wish the factory manual was some help, but everything covered regarding this problem would require a scanalyzer. I'll know more about what's going on later this evening after I have had a chance to look at the bike. I'll post my findings then, Later, Scott |

Scott, You can see if the injectors are getting volts with a multi-meter, if they are and no gas to the cyl. = bad injectors, or no gas to them. Pilk |

Dave, Sure is, was the in from Royal Oak. The funny part is I had met the owner on several other occasions. That and if the other had not gone missing, I would never have looked at it. My riding buddy pointed it out to me. Something about how I like the "archaic" non FI bikes. Thanks for the compliment. Just could not have passed this one up. I figure a matching S2 will appear in the not so distant future. Gots to have something to put a passenger on..... |

>>Auto parts places sell a 'noid >Can you provide more detail on this Josh? I'm not exactly sure what you are describing. They sell small light/diode devices for a couple bucks that plug into the FI harness in place of the injector. The light flashes when the ECM sends the "squirt" signal. I know I own a couple different ones but I'm think it's the "bosch" unit that works in the Buell harness. I'll go out and check against my old clogged injectors (that I just found again). >Does the ECM have the capability to provide spark, but due to a possible failure, not provide a signal to the injectors? I wondering if maybe the ECM is preventing fuel from getting past the injectors. I don't know if the ECM can fail internally (but I'm sure anything can break) more likely would be a wiring harness short or break. Josh |

Blake, I crashed going around this little cone. It's a "barrel Roll" turn where you had to go all the way around it. I came into the turn too hot, locked up the rear and low sided basically. MikeY sets up some mean battletraxes, but they're fun! Steve, Last I heard the Mechanic at HDW found that the Stator was bad. Hopefully this fixes everything else. No word when it will be ready. Linda and I will go to the POCONO Brag rally on matching Blue SV650's. |

José, glad to here the problem was dianosed. Have you been running in really wet weather recently??? Like water running on the engine???that can cause a stator to die/fry. |

OK, Here's what I know so far. I'll recap the whole thing. 2000 S3. 4,700 miles. Bike ran fine Friday night. Saturday morning it would not fire up. Turning on the ignition switch, I could hear the fuel pump working for a few seconds as it always does. The check engine light did its five second illumination and then shut off as it always does. It would crank over, but never even think about starting. The bike has good spark. I cheked. The bike has 50 PSI of fuel pressure as measured at the schrader valve connected to the fuel pump with a gauge. I removed the air cleaner cover and gave a quick shot of starting fluid in the air hole and attemptd to start the bike. It starts!!!!!! So, I know now that there is surely no fuel getting into the engine from the injectors. Next I guess I'll look for the LEDs that Josh mentioned and see if the bike is getting the signal from the ECM. I guess it's a somewhat safe assumption that if the LEDs do not light up, then it's either the ECM or something in th3e wiring from the ECM to the injectors. Comments, thoughts? Later, Scott |

have you a DMM? (Digital Multi Meter) you can check for DC (I'm assuming that the injector signal is DC it could be AC still easy to check) between ground and the wire. rather than go looking for another tool. If not I would put a DMM on the short list of needed tools...Sears has a few good ones that are cheap or you could buy an expensive one from Fluke (I'm still partial to the Fluke AN77) |

The signal to the fuel injectors is a square wave. The duty cycle of the wave increases (longer pulse width, or higher ratio of time on to time off) as the revs increase. At idle, you may not see any DC voltage, but it may flicker a little. Hard to get a good reading with a meter. An O'scope would be ideal. I'm thinking the LED option is your best bet. |

Loki, the S1 shouldn't be any higher. The (extreme) narrowness of the seat gives more room when you are standing (and a wee bit less when you're sittin' ) Welcome to the S1 side, yer gonna like it. The conditions for your conversion suck, but what the heck, you got the right bike now. Just get yourself a Manta tank and an Axtell 88" kit and you'll be right on the money. I hate to say, one of those is sold now. I think I can manage to keep the other two. If not, there is going to be a real nice S1 with an 80" Axtell motor for sale. I do have a perfect 74" Lightning motor for sale in the classifieds if anybody needs one. bighairyralph |

I have a Fluke, but I'd doubt that I would be able to pick up the pulse since the bike won't even start. I'd essentially be looking for a millisecond of a.....what?.....Five volt DC pulse? Hootowl is right, a 'cillyscope would be the way to go if I wanted to see what, if any signal there was. Of course we don't all have one in our garage =8^) The LEDs seem to be worth a shot. This bike is still under extended warranty. I'm going to have a look and see what is covered. I may just truck it to the shop if I can get out of this for a $50 deductible. I just can't stand the incompetence of the mechanics (and I use that term loosely) at the Buell/H-D dealerships in the greater Phoenix area. Later, Scott |

Scott, are you trying to start it with the throttle closed? Have you tried cracking the throttle open a bit when you crank it? worth a shot. |
