Quick question. Was there a header change on Cyclones from 2000 to 2002? Will a muffler for a 2000 model fit 2002? Sorry to hear about your bike Loki. I keep putting off getting an alarm. Maybe I need to think seriously about that again. Thanks | ||

I normally have it chained up with 30' of heavy chain. Save for sunday afternoon I had just looped it through the wheel. I was wet,cold and tired. That I did not have the key for the padlock on me. So it was someone who took the time to actually check the chain and lock. My fault for not locking it, but I don't think that would have stopped this theft. After talking to the Sheriff and doing the reports. He could not believe it was taken. Even he noticed that it was normally locked up and that the chain was very noticable. It was in a carport when this happened. I know they did not ride away with it though. The clutch cable was broken when I parked it. My chat with the man revealed that theft in my area has been increasing. So brave as to actually jack someones truck up and take all four wheels off it the other week. My bag, my fault now I get to deal with the ins company. Bad part is I have to find recpts for all those extras to be covered. Bry | ||

Talking about e-Bay and in view of my responsibility, in perpetuity, to constantly remind you bunch of heathens how darned funny life is....... Decided to try to be a bit parsimonious. Went to e-Bay. Found one. Bid. Won. Cheap, high quality, heavy. Buyer: "I'm in East Northport, Long Island, you could just pick it up" Co-worker: "I live right there, I'll drop over and pick it up" Yeah, right. . . . . . Co-worker: "I work with Courtney and I was asked to call about picking the vice up" Seller: "No problem....yada, yada, yada" Seller: "By the way, I have one unusual request" Co-worker: "Sure, what's that?" Seller: "Well my husband may be here when you arrive and you may have to fight him for the vice, BUT...."technically" it's mine". Co-worker arrives, gal runs out with heavily taped sealed box acting like she's known him forever. Plants a big kiss on him and hands him the box waving as he drives off down the street. Jim, You are correct. When this happens you just question what could you have done to prevent it. Then again locks and chains are to keep honest people honest. If someone wants something bad enough there is not much that is gonna stop them. I wish I had seen them though. I coulda taken pot shots at them from my bedroom window. Although covering up the report of a Mini-14 would be real hard to do. I wonder if they actually know what they were taking or thought it was something else and more expensive? Bry (Loki) | ||

Loki, Someone tried to steal my Blast last year - they stuck a screwdriver in the ignition to try to start it. At the time I didn't have a yard or garage, one of the reasons I had a Blast, not an M2 or such. Thought it would be less of a target. Oh well. I now have a yard and garage, and the S2 is in the yard behind a fence, or locked in the garage. I also have a large (and trained) mutt dog. great deterrent, and better than a gun because I can call her back, can't do that with a bullet. hope you get your stuff back, and they catch the a-holes that took your bike. If not, hope the insurance co. sees fit to take care of you. Good luck. david | ||

Loki, If I were witnessing a crime I hope I would have the sense to call trained Law Enforcement Officers and let them handle the situation (I say 'hope' because we all at times are enraged by this nonsense and then who knows what we'll do?). By taking a shot at them how would they retaliate? Do you have a Wife and kids at the house? Just things to consider. Realizing that hindsight is 20/20 perhaps you can install a floodlight with a motion sensor in this area? They are quite inexpensive. I'm a light sleeper and a light coming on in the yard would wake me. Then hopefully if I saw something amiss I would call the Law. No loved ones but the ferret in the apartment. Only the Buell sleeps outside. The carport is about 100 yds and 2 1/2 flights of stairs away from me. Yet in the time it takes to lift a bike into a pick-up of van, I would not have gotten thru to the sheriffs dept. The stop or I will knee cap ya mentallity is there. Want to ask how my 9mm is loaded for living quarters defense? Try 1 rd snakeshot, 2 rds 147 subsonics, 2 rds +p repeat till mag is full. Besides I would have only wouned the vehicle. flat tires, missing windshield, radiator going poof tend to make people real nervous. | ||

Loki, like Court said and lose the homemade rounds. Even if you are found to be in the right to defend yourself, the use of such ammo, designed with "intent to kill or maim" will get you in mucho grande trouble in civil court. The jury will not be sympathetic in the least. You may defend yourself by stopping an assailant but you may not kill or maim...if that makes any sense. Get yourself some Mag-Safe frangibles, I've seen what they can do to a Butterball turkey compared to ballnoses and ashtrays. Impressive. Perhaps bighairyralph could chime in on the legal points since he makes his living as a gunsmith. If you must shoot something to protect your bike, get a paintbal gun with ammo that has the same luminescent dye that won't wash off for 2 weeks likes banks use in their money sacks. And if any gets on your bike, well, you'll be that much more visible at night! | ||

Don't get me wrong here.... Shooting a living being is the last thing in my mind! especially when it comes to defending a not so inanimate item like my Buell. BUT to defend my own person from adverse actions in my own residence is another story. Every time I replant myself somewhere I learn the local establishments rules. X1, none of those rounds are home made. They are all legally purchasable and possessable. The snakeshot is a standard CCI/Blazer round. Always carried it out in the woods in Arkansas, good for those pesky cottonmouths. The 147 sub-sonics were designed for submachine guns with sliencers. Very effective at short ranges. Most gun stores will stock these babys. The only questionable round is the +p. Yes I know the drill also, a close friend of mine shot and killed a person. Only after retreating to the farthest corner of his house and closing as many doors as possible betwix him and the now dead person. Yet cooler heads will normally prevail and I hope I can be calm in the future. As to todays rantings, I am blowing off some steam, so let it go.... | ||

Ahh, I see, didn't know what snakeshot was. I thought it was a home made load of buckshot. A friend of mine made some of those for my 45. Was fun to shoot but when I gave it more thought, I had just fired an illegal length shotgun. Perhaps the theft is a blessing and you can get an XB with the insurance money. Anyone want to steal my X1? | ||

That sucks. Maybe the 100,000 candlepower of tactical light on the end of my bad 870 after hearing the action rack would be a good enough deterrent...I'm hoping...though I'm sure we all hope it never comes to that. Anyways, sorry about your loss Loki. Hope your insurance hooks you up. | ||

Receptionist here at work indicated her boyfriend just uses his baseball bat as his theft deterant, she says it has worked great so far. He lept over the chain link fence with bat in hand and the guys changed their minds. - Defend what is yours- "life, liberty,and the pursiut of happiness" Sound familiar? I hope so - we have others who paved the road for us... There are various means, use what suits you and try to keep it legal - Decide before-hand and things will go better, kinda like deciding to wear a lid - what will happen if you need it and it's not there? I keep two things next to my bed (not that I have room anywhere else) both martial arts related, one a short japanese spear (it will punch a whole in a car door) and the other my baby, my pride and joy, 29.5 inches of razor sharp steel. will I ever use them against a person? probably not but (I have killed a rat with the spear) when I hear a noise at night I grab that spear and a flashlight. | ||

Loki---I can't help but think "if you hadn't have moved to Michigan..." I got robbed once.It wasn't the loss of property that bothered me.It was the violation that I felt afterward and the thought that the S.O.B. could come back any time he wanted and do it again. I have kids...That feeling was unacceptable. I got a man-eating, snarling, unintimidatable(word?), beast the likes you never want to meet. I felt very safe(along with my S&W 357 magnum). It's a shame the things you have to do to feel secure. | ||

All, Thanks bunches...The hardest part is the feeling of being violated. That someone thinks they deserve to have(take) what is not theirs. Former lawyery types were -Smith,Wesson,and Mossberg. Now its Smith,Wesson and Ruger. I think this weekend I am gonna go pull the trigger on some live ammo and work out my feelings. Pammy, I was thunkin that one over also, then again someone lifted an entire cooler of beer out the back of my truck whilst deployed down there. Put a sign on the truck "please return cooler when finished" that was no cheep beer either that stuff came all the way from cheese land. Blake, Going thru all my archives and the BWB to get everything together. So far I am up to over $2k in extras. If all comes out well I will be sitting pretty good. Might wait till Nov and see what the XB9S really looks like. | ||
