If you are running firefox as your web browser, go get the latest update. It might not be advertised on your browser yet, but it is on the firefox site for download. You want to be running 1.0.5 ***soon***. |

Pale one, Are you referring to this bracket? It's not the most robust design in the world, to be sure. Does your bike have the updated inverted Y mounting Y-bracket: It should if it is an 01, that front bracket was stock on the '01's. That bracket is helpful in reducing front mount breakage. The way I got mine to last the longest was to weld the stubs of the shoe together, see here Al |

Not a good idea. Many have tried, but the results were inconclusive. |

Al Yes that is the bracket that I currently have and the Y-bracket also. I checked out your photo and it seems as if we are on the same page. I had it rewelded and also use 2 clamps now. It had previously sheared the upper L-part and also the lower rounded foot, right at the weld all of the way across. Should it really have all of that stress or is something more serious there? The bushings seem fine. Oh yeah it also sheared off the thick T-clamp at the Dragon. Thanks for the help and the great photos also. Pale |

I think we have some mis-alignment/stress going on. You should not be breaking that much stuff. |

Thanks for the good advice I'll wait till I'm closer to coming home to seriously shop. Aafees wasn't much help so far, they gave me 2006 machine prices with 2005 specs and they seemed very limited due to the awaiting 2006 info release. So hopefully come early August they can give me some firmer numbers. Here on the internet I've been seeing lots of 2003 XB9R Firebolts for sale. Is there something I should know about them that I've missed here on the board? That would explain the ?higher? numbers of 2003's for sale vs other makes/models? |

Yes. They are a year older The belts got much better, but just wait until the one that is on the 03 breaks and put on the new standard replacement part and you are in pretty good shape. Also, get the inner airbox cover for an XB12 or XB9SX for some dirt cheap extra horsepower. Not a LOT of other changes... |

...other than that the '04 up have an improved velocity stack, the '05 XB9's have a larger throttle body, and all '05 have larger diameter forks with a large flat below the triple trees that facilitates clip-on bars. |

I moved all the Laguna Seca threads here in the Tale Section. Please keep the photos coming. Maybe limit each post to no more than five to help keep page bandwidth to a reasonable level. Thanks all. I'm still compressing and sorting mine. But here's one of my favorites... |

Zoomage... I hadn't noticed that Sean wasn't wearing pants when I took the pic. Good quick thinking with the T-shirt there nature boy. This was right after Eric Bostron won the Supebike race, pretty much blowing Mladin and his Suzi clean off the track. (Message edited by blake on July 16, 2005) |

Blake mentioned: In prison, you can't take off for a great weekend at Laguna Seca. Sure you can, it all depends on how long you're in for, your behavior while you're there and when your probation comes up. Just takes a little planning, just like you did. <grin> -SD: |

I went to change the trans oil in my 2000 lightning x1, couldn't get the exaust off to drain the oil so i figured i would do it later. I took off the side cap and replacd it but now i have this motor whine when it starts and when it revs up. Does anyone else have this problem? Please help |

Ryes: If I read this right, all you did was remove and replace the "side cap", right? That sounds to me like what everybody else calls the "derby cover", that's the big round plate on the left side of the motor. Unless there's more to it than that, and assuming that the motor wasn't whining before you worked on it, I don't see how you could have caused the problem, whatever it is. Did it have the right amount of oil in the trans when you pulled the cover? The right amount is when the oil level is just touching the bottom of the ring gear on the clutch with the bike sitting level. rt |
