For Sale: 2002 Buell Blast, 12k miles, year round “city bike” If you take the bog standard Buell Blast that was a mainstay of Rider’s Edge classes for a decade and try to turn it into a very nice year round city bike, you’ll probably end up with something like this! This is a “do everything” bike. It’s got enough power for highway use (perhaps not ideal for a heavy rider in the mountains, but it’ll do it), it’s very well behaved around town, it’ll handle gravel just fine, and it’ll sip fuel while doing it. The core of the bike is unchanged - a 500CC thumper in a very forgiving frame that gets nearly 60mpg. The rest has been improved and upgraded over the years to make something far, far nicer! An incomplete list of modifications: * A custom intake with splitter plate into the carburetor radically improves air and fuel delivery. * The Jardine exhaust opens up the exhaust nicely. A quiet core in the tip reduces the noise significantly, though if you want to remove it, there’s an awful lot of thump left at the tailpipe! * A pair of very nice XB mirrors replaces the stock Blast mirrors for better visibility and more mirror area. * Hand guards and heated grips keep your hands cozy and warm even into the cold riding months. * The removal of the rear plastics opens up the frame visually and makes belt inspections easier. * A set of 1125R turn signals plus a LED tail light makes the bike incredibly visible from the rear. The tail light both flashes the brake light and “chases” out to the turn signals when turning - it’s an impossible to miss combination. * I’ve got an extra rear wheel, an extra belt, and a full engine seal kit. There are all three seats for the Blast, so regardless of what you prefer, you’ll find one you like. There’s the “high firm” seat, the “high soft” seat, and the “low” seat - even a 5’3” woman can flat foot the Blast with the low seat. Tires are cheap, fuel is cheap, and with the motor being “half of a Harley” motor, parts are easy to come by. The bike has been down, like most older bikes. There are some scrapes along the left side of the fuel tank that a bit of sandpaper could clean up if you cared, and the bike shows that it’s been ridden, but the color is molded all the way through the plastics.
