in all honesty, does this look like a decent deal? I talked to the guy and hes only 5 hrs drive from me. I'm awaiting a pic of the vin before I pursue this any further. is there a way to tell if this is the color scheme the bike came the factory with from the vin? I read that no s1w came from the factory with the twin tail set up and that it was all a dealer add-on. can anyone confirm this? |

5 hours? I'd absolutely take a look at it if I were you. I drove 35 hours R/T from Albuquerque to Minnesota to pick up mine before someone else snagged it. Yeah, it was THAT good of a deal. Brankin could tell you everything as it left the factory from the VIN. |

I sent Lance the vin and he responded with what he could tell me. Ive commited and will most likely go saturday. Been back and forth with the owner and he seems like a stand up guy. Even face-timed with me so i could go over it and hear it run. Ill wait til i have the bike in my possession, then possibly msg one of the masters and see if they will share some of their knowledge and wisdom Thanks man |

From the 1998 dealer show material, the twin tail was offered only on the S1. I know that later, but still early in the 1998 model year, it was also offered on the S1W (similar to the S1W originally available only in Ice White Pearl, but later available in all 1998 colors). |

Thank you sir. I did end up driving up there on saturday and left with the bike. It needs a little tlc but, fortunately, its in my hands now and it will get all the attention it deserves. The sticker on the stem says june 98. 995th bike. Few things i missed that i didnt notice til it got home but nothing that cannot be remedied. |

I have no choice but to park it where it sits. I have a cover thats just like the other one beside it. I know its not ideal but its the best i can do at the time being. What will happen if its in the hot sun? Id like to know because if i take it to work, thats how it will sit. Seller wouldnt budge on price. Probably cuz he knew i drove 300 miles and didnt wana leave without it. Even though it really wasnt as described, its still ok. I finally have an S1W :-) I did get the carbon fiber rear hugger. The large one with the license plate light and the oem large muffler. Both are near new and will most likely go up for sale. If anyone knows a fair price, please pm me as i have no idea what theyre worth. |

Heat can cause the fuel to outgass, which can cause the tank decals and paint to bubble. You have a recall tank on yours with the block lettering badge/decals, just like mine, and that'll help...but I'm starting to get some little pimples here and there. Is what it is, I guess. Patina. Keep the hugger. You'll never find another, and they MAKE the bike in my opinion. Ditto the muffler - eventually that SS2R will fall apart. Not "if", but "when". You'll want it, and it's a '98-only piece, only on the S3 and the S1W (the first two thunderstorm bikes). Later mufflers were all black painted mild steel; yours is stainless. I'd keep the original parts, you're lucky to have them. |

Nice looking bike. Just to clarify the comments on the tank, the S2 models we're the only tube frame bikes to have a recall on the fuel tank. Blistered tanks were often replaced under warranty or authorized "goodwill". |

I thought that was the SSR2. Not really up on the V&H models but I do like the sound. I may swap it out for the KT Components I have. That one is just built like a tank. Plus, Kevin from Drummer made me a custom baffle for it. How can I let that go? :-) Thanks for the info friends |
