I found some new old shocks, have the short newest available, and some of the old old remote res, longer body shocks if someone is trying to do a restoration or something of that sort.
Still researching value on them, but hope to share with the community for a good price.
Pics to follow shortly, can't post them from my phone =\

New recall, front

New recall, rear

Front eye and reservoir

I have a few of these, they appear to be brand new, no marks from having been mounted, and no grime or wear, a little dusty, the others are still in plastic bags.
These are the short body shocks. I have some front mounting plates, pretty sure they are for the new, short shocks above, not the long body shocks I will post below... after the mount pics.

Short body, approx 14.5" eye to eye.
$350 plus shipping.

These shocks are brand new old stock, but are RECALL items, Buell pulled these out of service. Riding on these is done at your own risk.
There were, or may have been failures at the rear eye, which is why the much more robust short body shock was put out as a replacement under factory safety recall.
These were probably removed from bikes as they arrived to a dealer, but somehow escaped the bin.
They are probably best for an original restoration type situation where you do not anticipate riding the bike vigorously, and certainly not for doing any sort of stunt that adds extra load to the shock - these are a no-go if you're going to wheelie or stoppie, EVER! (even accidentally)

I have a few of these too.
Long body, roughly 16.5"
$235 and shipping.

the recall shocks were chronoligicaly; (1) long and (2)short neck. The original was a white springed WP that was NOT in a can

>>>Buell pulled these out of service.

And for a damn good reason.

I think I am the ONLY person who ever had a shock fail in actual service and I never did a wheelie or anything that would induce anything beyond a normal load.

If you are buying one of these for a display bike . . it'd be perfect. If you plan to ride on it, it's akin to playing Russian roulette.

Just to be clear.

In addition, should you ever had a nasty incident your "assumption of risk" will effectively prevent any claim.

Again. . . just so you know what you are getting. There are a lot of incorrect old tales about the shocks.

Court,

Your information is invaluable as ever, thank you. I definitely want folks to know what they're getting into with the long body shocks. Thank you for that information regarding your shock failure!

Danny,

I to be selling "original", exposed spring WP's (pre 1999 model year) I would make abundantly clear as well (I was hoping to find some of them for the REAL restoration projects, 'cause, how cool would that be?!?)...

...basically all the original shocks were longer bodied units - recalled until that thick necked, 14.5" full canister, all chrome jobbies posted first, Ithink that we are on the same page?

I've edited the above posts with photos to include length and price. Payments through paypal for goods to kinda cover both parties butts in all this

I browsed ebay a bit and found used long shocks selling for as low as $200, and used short bodied shocks as well (cheapest used was $250 by our member Big Hairy Ralph, since I don't want to scoop his sale I've priced above that for the newest, solid shocks).
New in box (factory packaging)short body kits were listed (by our St. Paul supporting dealership, 651lance) at $500, which I think is a good price if you need a full kit.

Make me an offer if I'm out of my mind, price wise, please be clear which you need/want (Tm, Fast, & Egagnon, calling you out here, politely of course, cuz they're all remote res).

And those that already posted, I will honor your post in the order receive, provided price is acceptable. I only have four (4) of the newest Showa short shocks avl, as I have a pm from a member I reached out to... if he feels price is okay. Although I may list a rebuilt, valved and sprung used one separately, I had it done about eight years ago, and it handled wonderfully on the track and freeway, was only on my bike for a few years until I found a works performance shock I could afford.

Ebutch, can I assume you're out since you pm'd about the white spring, I believe you wanted a WP (you've gained weight brother, maybe you oughta see a doc about that)?

Basti, I'm not sure about shipping these international... are you the fella with the New York address too, or was that another badwebber?
-Mike

PM sent regarding the WP shock. I'd love to have one for my S1W.

Forget to mention in PM that I'd need a mount for the long shock also.

I thought that some of the long thin necked shocks were still good, that is what was installed on my S1 when the replaced the WP shock. I had that on the bike until I upgraded to the Penske.

There are a lot of incorrect old tales about the shocks.

If that ain't the truth.

I had one of the big threaded rods fail on my S2's original WP rear shock coming back from somewhere in Iowa. Actually I think I was coming home from the KC plants first Open House. The handling just wasn't 'right' anymore. Stopped at a farm implement store bought some all-thread, and some nuts, and used a cutting tool of some type to shorten the all-thread appropriately and I was back on the road.

But back on topic...

Hell, one could almost infer from this thread that all of the longer Showa shocks were recalled from ANY Buell tuber. The recall notices (that are available on BadWeB, see below, FWIW) do not support this. There are certain bikes where the longer Showa shock is fine, although the shorter Showa shock definitely has a better reputation for reliability.

My '98 S3T Defender has a long Showa shock on it. Checking recall status on H-D's website there are no open recalls on that VIN.

My '95 S2 had a long Showa shock on it since the original recalls were performed at a secret location in East Troy. I did upgrade to the shorter Showa shock for durability reasons once the long Showa shock started the pogo action.

FWIW

Can anyone clarify the difference between an urban legend and an urban myth?

Alright, so I'm going to drop price a bit more.

$265 plus shipping for late model short shocks (approx 14.5").

$175 for the long bodies (16.5") (also plus shipping)
I have several of those, so would love to move them out, they are all new, showing no wear at the eyes, probably pulled off new bikes before they ever left the floor.

If you are going from a long body to a short body shock, I have a couple new front brackets ($25) to replace the stock hanger, you'll probably want new bolts for safety's sake when you put your new shock on.

I shipped to TX this week using a 28x6x6 box that weighs in about 13.5lbs, cost was $32 for USPS ground... 3 day mail was $37, UPS 3 day shipping was $24, so you have an idea what you're looking at cost wise there.

Oh, I have four of the latest greatest short body Showas available. Five of the older all with remote reservoir, and three front brackets.
I do not have any of the voltage regulator relocation brackets, I looked, but couldn't find any.
