By next spring, I will likely have one close to that spec at the low end of your price range. It's a 2007 XB12X in orange with a failing crank. I have a low mileage (10k) 2008 crank and necessary parts on the bench (thanks Ross!) ready, and I'll be putting it in over the winter. I'll be going over everything once the motor is out to make sure it is all in good shape (both inside and outside the motor). It has 30k miles or so, and has a rebuilt from salvage Ohio title due to an accident at about 20k, and some remaining subtle cosmetic damage (structural damage was replaced, minor cosmetic was cleaned up and left). So street value on the thing will be at the low end of the spectrum, but it will be a great rider for somebody, given it will have heads that were just redone by CycleRama and a crank with only 10k miles and a full transmission inspection and cleanup. I should have just parted it out, but its such a nice bike, and Ross had all those "fix an 07" parts all lined up and ready to go... I couldn't bring myself to shoot it. Thanks, Court! I think I found a real nice 08 with less than 12k. Gonna go look at it early next week (1hr-10min away) |

Nice! If that is the stock top case, I don't think it is supposed to be mounted without the side case mounts in place. So don't put too much weight in it until you get that sorted. |

Look into that mounting. There is a factory bulletin about doing that . . I think. The tailbox relies on the presence of the sidebag brackets to transfer some of the mounting stress moment. Great looking bike . . . I was in the Pawling area checking out the horse farms today. |

Thanks, guys! Good call on the top case mount. I plan to get the side case mounts asap! Keepin' it light up there until then. From what I know of the bike: Buell triple tail backpack Aprilia Tuonno mirrors Barkbuster hand guards Comfort kit (I think/hope) New spark plugs And I have a nice Cortech Super 2.0 18l tank bag to go on her. |

Order a new front exhaust strap also, for when you want to remove and paint the muffler. The surface rust is harmless, but that's such a nice bike, you might as well make it perfect. |

I recently used VHT Ceramic primer and paint (the one for headers) on my M2 muffler with good results. Only time will tell. (Message edited by jim2 on September 13, 2016) |

Ace hardware high temp black semi matte paint and duplicolor (I think) ceramic engine paint have both worked pretty well for me (better than the black bbq high temp paint, which doesn't seem to last as long). |

Actually, no. At 9pm last night, he sends me the text below. This is after 2 months and 20 something emails and a couple phone calls. Ugh... So I move to my #2 choice, another black 08 about 3hrs away. Clean with 19k, bone stock, no bags and plenty of surface rust on the stock can :-p Unfortunately, he's very inaccessible. I guess I will keep trying and looking until he can find the time to for me to come look at it...

Lol...wow, this forum must be good luck. The guy with choice #2 just called me as I posted that last post. So I am going out tomorrow afternoon with my Jeep and trailer....hopefully with a nice Uly to bring home. Orig owner- he bought it new from his local dealer, no mods at all...a few things done under warranty, service records, etc. Hoping to get her for around $3,500 or so (the one in the photo above was $4,500, before he had seller's remorse). Pics below.

Got it home! Worth the 6hr round trip to Bethel, PA I'd say. Paid $3,800. Original owner, purchased new from Shaeffer's HD. I want to call them to see if I can get the service records. This bike is 100% bone stock! Nice clean slate for me. Time to get her on the road, bathe her, fill her tires with air and get my Uly on once again!

Score! Contgrats. What a bike for under $4k. These are going to be the good old days, like when people could buy Porsche 914's in good shape for $5000. |
