brackets not the problem so much as wiring that takes 12v to 5 volt. everything is discontinued and unavailable. none of the brackets come with a harness that is why i posted. was hoping someone had something laying around collecting dust | ||

The 12 to 5v is pretty easy. The tough part is the power connector. It's a flush mount spring loaded pin thingy, and there was no cheap way to scare one up. you can use the charging cradle or car cradle, take it apart to pull out the connector part, and screw it into a nice $10 RAM snap cradle, then power it with 5v with a simple step down voltage regulator. But those don't last the best over time on a motorcycle in the weather. | ||

I just (yesterday) rewired the cradle on my CR. I was using the factory plug, but it kept coming undone and I got tired of it. So...I took it apart. I've done this before, but this time I did a diagram. There are four pins in the factory plug - 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. Red/black are 12v hot/ground; purple/orange are the voice outputs (I was using the original Buell harness that has a 1/8" jack for voice prompts). I cut off the plug, and soldered the wire ends directly to those four contacts on the circuit board (I have an old Weller component-level-rated soldering iron that doesn't cook PCBs). There are six tabs on the back of a Quest unit - they contact the six bars on the cradle. Left to right as you look at the empty cradle, these are labeled on the circuit board as: TxD RxD Voice VGnd Gnd Vchg As diagrammed:  I just test-fired my CR (I know it works, I rode all day yesterday), and the Gnd and Vchg are 5v- and 5v+ respectively. If you get a 5v power supply and solder + and - to those two tabs in the correct order...you've got a Garmin cradle! | ||
