I spent a good 3 months looking for a decent used one. Everything I found was either absurdly priced, already junk, or so close to retail pricing that I figured I might as well buy a new one. I ended up ordering one two weeks ago from my local Harley/Buell Dealer. Part # S0121.01A1 It was $65 and showed up in 4-5 business days. | ||

$65 is, I think, cheaper than they were when they were rolled out back in 2001. You definitely want one. The original design would pretty much slice right through the rubber isolators in short order, and you ended up with both slop, and metal to metal bouncing. Never a good day to start with, and a downright bad day when the near inevitable header stud shearing follows. | ||

weird... my '97 S3T has 32K miles on it and doesn't appear to be showing any issues with the isolator and it doesn't look like they've been changed anytime recently, maybe ever since the fancy exhaust was added in 2003 (according to the receipts that came with the bike) | ||

It mostly depends on the weight of the muffler according to my understanding. My S2T has 57,000 miles and the original hanger. | ||

Using a proper tightening sequence to prevent pre-loading of the (exhaust mount) joints can impact durability. Forced alignment at any mounting can also pre-stress the system and reduce mount durability. Certain flywheel combinations also seemed to be a factor. | ||

Myself and my buddy vic60 several years back bought a bunch of parts from a crashed x1 , the owner said his non updated exhaust hanger broke while riding and the muffler dropped the the pavement causing the bike to front flip , true or not ? But why take the chance $65.00 seems reasonable . | ||

Yup.....$65 is a drop in the bucket when comparing the prices of broken headers, mufflers, and/or bones. I read it wasn't a necessity for the muffler I have (Borla CF)' but I figured it was "cheap" insurance. | ||

Ok, so there seems to be different prices at different Dealers. The dealer I usually go to wants $142 for the front mount. | ||

Thats probably for the muffler mounting "kit". That includes the front Y mount, rear Z bracket, rear muffler strap, and the front mounting plate for the voltage regulator. I didn't need all of that extra crap, as I have an aftermarket muffler and the VR on my S1 is mounted by the battery. The mount part number is S0121.01A1 The "kit" part number is S1001.01A1 | ||

The kit I'm familiar with included the Y mount, and the new regulator mount. The original regulator mount won't work with the updated Y bracket. You could get the regulator bracket off a later model tuber though, don't necessarily need the kit. | ||

but it also gets me all the hardware and the rear mount, etc. Seemed like a good idea. | ||

Yeah, it's a good idea if you can find one and you need one. That's the route I took too. Just saying, if you can't find the kit, and can scrounge or don't need all the other stuff besides the Y and regulator bracket, you don't necessarily need the kit  | ||

I got it from Lawless HD right here in Renton, WA. This is going on the X1 basket case. I picked up a stock stainless muffler (weighs a ton) when I was in the next state over buying S3T parts.Actually got a 2.5" one and a 2.0" one. Given the weight, and stock configuration I figured the kit would be exactly what I needed - fewer trips to the hardware store an no need to fab a rear hanger. That being said, you're right, if somebody just wants the Y mount the kit is overkill. Hey! You guys have given me excellent advise on this topic (which I seem to have hijacked) and I greatly appreciate it! Thanks All! | ||

got the kit... it has the y mount with the associated fasteners and 4 zip ties(?), has the regulator re-locator, and bracket that must go around the rear of the black mufflers (the 2 stainless mufflers I have welded on ears) |
