So my slip on had some chipping and paint coming off in areas, i decided to hit it with some hi temp VHT header paint that has a silica ceramic coating. I did give it a light sanding and cleaning before spraying, however there are areas that had some bubbling and paint didn't take very well at all. Looking for some suggestions on how to get a decent finish. Any ideas would be appreciated. | ||

This is what I have done in the past: Have the muffler professionally descaled (blasted) to remove all surface material. When having this done, specify to the shop that absolutely no media or fluid is to get inside the muffler...or else. Then before spraying, wipe the muffler down with a paint prep agent (I used Dupont), which will remove any surface contamination that got on the pipe between the shop and your spray area. Then spray. If you want to have the entire job professionally done w/a ceramic coating, I have used Miller Powder Coating in Atlanta Ga (770-931-1505). Reasonable $$$ and good quality. Good luck! | ||

A guy near me just went through same thing with that paint. Get a can of krylon grill paint, I haven't had one problem and it's a little more glossy/shiny than other grill paints. I used it 4 pipes so far and haven't had an issue. Doesn't last as long as powder coating but looks identical. | ||

I 2nd the grill paint rattle can. I did it on my D&D and it looked great (I used Rustoleum which comes out flat). The did a little bit of surface prep by degreasing and doing a quick wet sand just to scuff up the existing paint and get rid of any flaky stuff. |
