I reluctantly am posting up my favorite bike yet, a 2000 Buell X1 Lightning. The reason I'm looking to trade or sell is because with such a bike, comes necessary maintenance and upkeep. And now that school has started, I simply do not have the time. I don't need or even really want to sell/trade it, but am throwing it out there to see what offers there may be. Buell X1 Lightning -~17k miles -1203cc V-twin -5 speed transmission -Fuel Injected -Race ECM -Tires have good tread on them Work that has been done on it: -Primary sprocket/pulley seal has been replaced (was leaking) -The infamous and commonly failed Crank Seal has been replaced with a improved two-lip design. -Starter gasket replaced -New Baker front pulley that was bumped I think up one tooth by a shop, should help with highway speeds/mpg -New drive belt -New EBC pads front and rear. It starts up every time, idles and runs very well, all through the rpm range. Went on a 45 minute cruise the other day without hiccup. The good news is that I just replaced that stupid crank seal that is the most common laborious failure on these bikes. It brakes well, turns great, rides smooth, is loud and vibrates like a thunderstorm sent from Zeus, and is a joy to be on. The clutch engages well and haven't had issues with it or the transmission. Trade ideas: I do NOT want ANY cruisers. I'd prefer a 600 or greater sportbike, Japanese, Italian, British, whatever. No dirtbikes or atvs or watercraft or cars or trucks or electronics. Strictly a 600 or better sportbike. I'd consider a newerish Buell as well. I can possibly add cash if it's worth it. Please don't offer anything older than 2000. Price: $3800 obo Location: Columbia, SC (Message edited by b1rdman on August 25, 2013) (Message edited by b1rdman on August 25, 2013) |

Just rode it from NE Columbia to Greenville and back with no issues. The guy's bike who I was going to trade for was in worse condition than stated and the seat height was uncomfortably too tall. |

Not a big fan of the "look" of the X1 Tubers but the yellow and black ones do look nice. |

Thanks man, I think it makes them look a bit more modern. Most people don't believe me when I tell them it's a 2000. |

Is my price way too high or is the market just dry? |

B1rdman- I'd guess your price is a little high (but not ridiculous), tubers just seem to be generally hard to sell, and it's probably not the best time of year to be selling a motorcycle, since the riding season will soon be drawing to a close (at least for much of the country). All you can do is be patient, or cut the price. I suggest you just ride the crap out of it and maybe you'll convince yourself you want to keep it. In another 20 years, it may be the equivalent of a Vincent Black Shadow. |

What Hughlysses said. If you don't need the money that bad, hold on to it. It's worth a lot more as "my favorite bike" than it is as pile of fungible dollars. |

If you want an X1, that's a reasonable price. But if you want an X1, you probably have an X1 already. And you are competing against XB12S's, XB12R's, XB12X's, and 1125's. All of which, sorry to say, are probably a better choice. Personally, having had then sold a tuber and currently riding an XB12X... I am watching for good deals on tubers, I would love to have another someday as a toy. For me, currently, "toy" money is $2000 or less unfortunately. So it's not so much a matter of what the bike is worth, it is a matter of what people will pay. I sold my m2 a **LONG** time ago for about $3200 as I recall. Heck, I bought it in 2000 with 5000 miles on it for $5000. |

To put in perspective; I bought my 99 Carbon Kevlar edition with 34,000 and a fresh top end rebuild for $3000 about 6 months ago. Bike was/is in excellent condition. |

From what I've noticed of the markets, the 00+ X1s fetched more than the pre-2000 ones. I would take anything around $3200 honestly. |

Oh, and thanks for the input guys! Maybe I'll put it on Ebay? They seem to go for a lot on there.. |

Give it some time as it will sell when the right buyer comes along, GLWS. (Message edited by Jramsey on September 05, 2013) |

I kind of sort of already bought an '07 ZX6R Ninja and thus, unfortunately, the beloved Buell has to go at some point to pay for it. I'd love to keep both but can't at this time. |
