It's still on original tires. tons and tons of pics to be found here: http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/19959145_nJjdnV#156 8456909_DMSz6Ht It's clean, never been crashed or abused. I tried to take a picture of every single flaw and dirty bit I could find. A few bubbles on the underside of the tank but only one or two where they can be seen. I have the stock bread box air cleaner to go along with it. I will consider an S3t or S2t trade. First $3950 takes it. Needs to be riden and new tires. I'll toss a new battery in it before it goes home. |

Tasty. Love that it has the original hugger on it - so many people ruin the S1 by tossing those. Good luck - gorgeous motorcycle. |

All S1's were carb. They killed the S1 after '98; the "Lightning" name went to the X1 in '99. All X1's were EFI. The S3 is the ONLY Buell - unless I'm forgetting something - that was ever "some carb / some EFI". S2 - carb. S1 - carb. M2 - carb. X1 - EFI. Blast - carb. S3, 97/98: carb. S3, 99-up: EFI (maybe optional in '99?). XB - EFI 1125 - EFI That blue S3T is gorgeous as well. Good thing for my wallet it's not any closer to the east coast. |

Thanks for that info there RatBuell... Now I guess I know the rest of the story as they say.... So wd. the S1 be like the HotRod of all models that came with a Carb... And sorry buddy for asking all this in your tread... |

Hopefully Pete will appreciate all the "S1 hype" we're trying to create for him The S1 was, I think, the lightest and most basic of the tubers. The M2 may have been close weight-wise, but didn't have the upside-down forks or the high-rev cams. The S1W was the first Thunderstorm-engined bike, along with some S3's, making it the first 101hp spec bike. So yeah...I guess it was a hot-rod I love mine, and that's what matters to me! |

'98 was an odd year for the S1's. Many had the older style "Lightning" 90hp motor, like Pete's bike. While some were equipped with the S1W "Thunderstorm" 101hp motor. Heads, valves and pistons were unique to the "Thunderstorm" motors. Both motors shared the same cams, which were actually an HD "Screamin' Eagle" part. S1W "Thunderstorm" Lightnings were also equipped with the larger S3 style fuel tanks. Bob Loblaw |

I think the S1's with the thunderstorm heads were S1W's |
