I bought this tail and a seat on ebay a couple weeks ago, with plans to repaint it, when I got the tail it was in much better condition than I anticipated. I really would like the tail to go to a good home to be used as-is rather than re-painting it, otherwise i'll suck it up and break out the DA It looks to be original paint by the layering in the chips on seat edge, but there is a fair amount of overspray on the underside as well as a number rough painted in poor paint pen or rough brush. I don't know if this is normal or a replacement part or a good repaint. I will add a pic of the underside on monday. All pics are at http://www.mediafire.com/?6l1ddhe6ok2dk So I would like to find someone that has a need for a White Lightning Tail that can trade me for a paintable S1 solo tail preferred without cracks. Drop me a PM and we'll work out the details. |

My original is also oversprayed underneath, and I've seen a lot of body parts from the early days with handwriting on the backside. Decal is in the correct place. My guess is, original. Should have blue pearl over the white base, yes? |

Indeed it is Pearled, wasn't sure on the numbers and over spray. My S1 underside is very nicely masked black paint, with no numbers. The PO might have done it as he striped and rebuilt the bike at 137 miles (my cousin). Thanks for the confirmation Ratbuell, that guarantees I won't paint it. |

The only OEM parts from that era that I've seen nicely masked and back-painted (at least on my personal tubers), are the front fairing and the leg lowers from my S2. The rest, at least in my experience, all have some "character". Perhaps 1313 can shed some light...? |

I feel your pain, man and good on ya' for trying to pass this on to somebody who wants original paint. Bubbling is going to force a repaint of my S1W. I absolutely hate silver bikes but, all of the plastic--tail included--is gorgeous. It's going to hurt to sand into that and remove the decals to lay the Molten Orange down. |
