So I got this latest rendition of the stock shock a few years ago to serve as a sub while I was having my bikes shock with 23K miles on it rebuilt and tuned by Aftershocks. This was only on my bike for about a month, rode a bit stiff so it may be an S3 shock. I did not adjust it at all. I just put it on and rode. I didn't put even 500 miles on it since work's close to home. (If you can tell me how to verify S3 vs X1/M2 shock I will). No leaks, first pic is to show where it's laid on the garage floor for six months to prove it. In one photo you can see the threads inside the canister, pretty clean and free of debris. Purchased from another badwebber for $75 and shipping. I'd like $50 and shipping, or make me an offer. Boxed and weighed it should be just under $20 for US mail.

It's the short one, so measure your shock from eye to eye. I believe it should fit any model year (S1, X1, M2, S2) with this exception: If you've got the 16"+ shock you'd need to get the updated front shock mount as well. |

Sorry, Bugs... Dorothy at BTR just now emailed me that the first of the new shifters is almost ready. Can't afford both right now, and I gotta go with the shifter. If this doesn't go now, I'd sure like to get it after I sell some RC plane stuff that's gathering dust since my return to Buell Bliss. I really need it, but it's gotta wait. Thanks anyway, Greg |

Cheeze !! I've been asleep at the switch - please forgive me measured while sitting on 2 tires + the side stand, my '99 M2 was right at 14.5", eye-to-eye so am I good with yours? - I've got the cash if shok's still available... |

FirstBuell was first. I'm not worried about starvin' the kids...They're grown. I just don't wanna starve my cats. Tryin' to juggle this with buying a BTR shifter when they become available. This X1m is new to me with 20,000 on the clock. It appears to have the proper recall shock (I went through that crap in '06 with my S3t). The guy I got it from had the suspension adjusted like a carb...all the way in on everything, and back it out a skosh! After FSM settings, rides great. But after about 500 miles, I'm getting "black greasy buildup" where the front of the shock body exits the spring can. So, I'm thinking it's probably on it's way out. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks, Greg |

Curt, Looks like you are still quite welcome to it. PM sent to you sir, same price as the one Buellbozo offered, $70 shipped. (I want the thing out of my garage. I'm trying to clear it out so I can set up my trainer in there for winter cycling/training, I'm getting fat and it's making me crazy). Greg, mine seeped for quite a while but took its time before going to full blown spewing oil in the garage floor mode. Like a year or so. But that's just me. I got a CNC'd top clamp for my bars from B2R a few years ago. Billet bling that cuts weight is good stuff. (Message edited by littlebuggles on November 11, 2010) |

Well if Firstbuell pays me within the next 36hrs or so it's gone, otherwise it's gonna move on down the line. Don't forget to check your spam-mail folder for PM's guys, I know my email sends a lot of PM's there since they are sent from unfamiliar addresses. |

LB questions for you I just measured the X1R shock and it looks like the 16 inch one. I tried to keep this bike mint from showroom floor is the 16 inches from bolt to bolt? and if I do have the 16 inch shock how much would the updated shock mount or where would I get one? I would do this same thing you did so it would be a temp shock for me as well. |

Babired, The 16" fully adjustable shock with the remote res came as original stock on the X1. Due to a safety recall many have been replaced with the shorter, stronger fully adjustable shock (with remote res). The front mount was redesigned for the shorter shock, I do not know if the front mount was also made stronger. As far as acquiring the proper front mount, I'd go with a parts wanted ad here, watch ebay, and check with a sponsoring dealership. It is possible with your VIN you could get the upgraded shock and mount for free. I completely understand your desire to keep a bike fully stock. The X1's were very nice as a stock package. I would be torn as to which shock to use, I suppose it depends on how much I intended to ride the bike, and how hard. I also don't know the failure rate on the pre-recall shocks, so don't know how likely it is that I would experience a failure while riding. I think that is a personal decision based on your perspective (life experience, etc.), but since both are stock Buell parts I'd go with the safer option. The forks on my M2? I bought them here from a guy named NCBueller about seven years ago. I haven't seen him here in a long time... I believe they were from a 02 X1W. The forks in the photo were the stock forks on my M2, they have bent upper legs. I'd like to break them down and recycle to aluminum lowers, or better yet find someone who needed the parts. Buellsrule, this thread is getting pretty long you may find more interest in your part by starting a fresh ad. I do appreciate you not trying to undercut my price. I guess one of the previous posters might find your offer useful though. (Message edited by littlebuggles on November 14, 2010) |

Okay thanks I'm going to go ahead and buy it. It would be interesting to see what is in your front forks if there were any upgrades made to them. |

Babired, got your payment, thanks!!! Buellsrule, looks like you've got at least two potential buyers, I hope you can sell your shock. The forks I'm running now, I'm pretty sure are stock. The seller sent some Buell race springs with them. I didn't need them until I took the bike to the track, then found I was limited by the forks once I'd had the shock rebuilt and revalved. I'm about 190 or so fully geared up. If the forks had adjustable preload I probably could make them work for me, but they definitely need the stiffer spring for more aggressive riding. |

Glad to know it got to you okay, I hope it works well for you. I'd check the damping and compression settings and dial them for stock before you mount it, even if it's just a temp. It felt a bit sharp edged when I was riding on it. |

Babired, This is from my notes on the M2's. The M2L's (2001-2002)used a (ctr. to ctr) 15 1/4". The old M2's used a 16.5" and the newer M2's used a 14.7" shock. The older shocks came with a straight bracket and the newer ones used the boomerang style which had the mount hole further back to accommodate the shorter bolt pattern of the newer shock. Hope this helps for your X1R. Also the 2000 M2 mount # is K0407.8H and the 2001 is K0407.01A1. I believe they basically are the same but the 2001 has an additional hole for the regulator mount upgrade. (Message edited by Buell_Bert on November 28, 2010) |
