Had a tank slapper on my '03 XB9S Thurs evening. Went to see the bike today and have a feeling it will be totaled. I've yet to meet with the adjuster, but if the buyback is reasonable, is anyone interested in parts? Trying to judge if it will be worth the trouble. Thanks |

Depending on the cost, would you be interested in selling the whole bike? I'm looking for a bike I can use as a track only bike. |

This bike may not be the best candidate. I want to get another XB, so if buyback is reasonable I would want to keep wheels and add ons. Engine did run strong (20K mi), forks look straight. Micron can looks ok, but header is abit ground up. Lots of scratches...

Let me know what you would want to sell it for after you took the stuff off of it. I have another set of XB wheels and a bunch of spare parts so that isn't a problem. |

Did the subframe disappearing rip the mount off the frame? ac |

I can't do much of anything until the adjuster takes a look at it. When I find out what the buy back is I'll be in touch Thanks |

Condition of Micron and what kind of $ would take it off your hands? |

Depending on price, I might consider getting in line behind Ironheadsporty for the Micron. I tore the subframe mounts off the frame of my XB9 last year...I feel your pain. |

I'm meeting with the adjuster tomorrow AM, so I should know more then. The subframe mount did break, all the plastics have at least some rash. Never really thought a tank slapper was so quick or violent, but the bars basically bounce back and forth off the gas tank (airbox). I'm curious now how to correctly steer out of it, or if a stabilizer would have helped. |

Steer out of a tank slapper? Unlikely. A damper would have definitely helped. It is all about chassis geometry. ac |

In the event of a tank slapper you're supposed to not tighten up on the bars and keep very loose and let the bike work itself out, I read. Reads easy, sure I would put a death grip on the bars and f myself. Is that the proper thing to do? |

I am also told to apply the gas to unload the weight off the front forks. less front grip less steering slap... but I have never had one so its only talk on my part. and I also got a lever from an awesome bueller so i am no longer in need. (Message edited by delta_one on August 18, 2009) |

Yup, as one who has experienced them. Hardest thing in the world to NOT try to steer out of it and let the bike do what it wants. Once I loosened my grip and gassed it pretty good it quit and we rode away. |

I am trying to buy the whole bike so I can use it as a track bike. I have a set of plastics to throw on the bike since I replaced mine with CF. If the deal works out I'll sell you the plastics that are on the bike now Alex. Either that or the OP can sell them to you and deduct that from the total. He still hasn't bought the bike back from the Ins company. |
