I hate to sell this thing. Time warrants that unnecessary toys and redundant items must go. I looked for a long time to find a 200X in good enough shape to bother with. I rode and raced these things back when they were new, and loved it as much as riding my Uly. It is an '85 in its original condition. I have had it for about three years. I frequently get it out and ride it around our field. It runs great, does not smoke, new front tire, plastics are excellent as is the seat. The bars have been tweaked, but are tweaked back, original rear tires and brake pads need replaced, also the rear rims have a slight wobble(can be straightened). I have been saving it to go from "really good original" to "great restored". Looking to get $950.00 Ah crap, I have too many cool projects!   | ||

Looks like it found a new home today. Got deposit on sale, new guy rode 'em and loved 'em back in the day like I did. He couldn't believe its original condition even with the original tool kit and paper work. Gotta go out and do one more through the gears wheelie! Damn.......I will probably be looking for another one day. Oh well. | ||

They flip back real easy too... sure is a good lookin bike tho. Nice time machine. I have an 88 Fourtrax myself, good for plowin snow. | ||

  These are my old skool toys  The quad is an 87 trx250x The bike is an 01 cr250r modded to use 02 and newer plastics with the david bailey "old skool" plastics These are all I get to play with these days as I havent rode the Buell in almost a year :_( But I do get her back this weekend hopefully,If my now out of buisness dealer hasnt sold her on ebay  | ||

Well it is gone now. Guy picked it up yesterday. He was so impressed when he opened the tool kit and it was all there, and I gave him a plastic envelope with all the original paper work from when it was new. The thing that caused the demise of the three wheeler was increased power and lack of training. These things were simple fun when they were 90cc and even 110cc. Anybody could ride them. When the 185's came out people were not having much problem because they were up-grading from the smaller three wheelers and had experience. When the 200X and 250R came out in '84 and '85 new riders liked the look and power so they got into inexperienced hands, In '86 the 350X came out so I got one of those. I had worked my way up from a 90cc to the 350. It was awesome. It would run 65 mph, and tip right over if you tried to turn the bars without instilling a lot of body english. It happened to a lot of noobs. Thus the massive number of law suits and the recall of as many as people would bring back for a refund for Honda to crush them. In '85 I sold my first 200X to a noob. He had dirt bikes, snomobiles, and road bikes. That experience did not transfer. The 200X would run about 55 mph, the guys riding with him his first night on it, said that is how fast he was going when he put his foot down in a corner. The extremely knobby back tire grabbed his leg pulling him off the bike slamming him to the pavement while running over him. He was in the hospital for weeks while they tried to save his leg. It ripped every bit of skin and muscle off his lower leg leaving bare bones. I rode the bike with him and taught him for about two hours how to ride before he left with it. I was told that as he was about six beers into his ride he forgot the lessons I tried to teach him. Like about how to make the machine corner at speed and the warnings that I had given him about NEVER putting your foot down, EVER, if the machine is moving. I guess I should have been more assertive about not drinking and riding and to limit your stupidity at all times. But he was his own man. Like he said in parting as we loaded the bike on his truck "it's only a 200!". Yeah well..... | ||

^Ouch^ Did the new X owner get the same block of instruction...? Since this is becoming a Honda wheeler thread... here's my '88. It still has the original tires and toolkit... no paperwork tho. Not as sexy as the X, but still a good workhorse.  | ||

Nice bike! Had a couple of guys looking for a 'Big Red' when mine was for sale. The new owner of the 200X. jumped right on it, set the choke, put it in neutral, set the switches, and kicked it off. No instructions for any of it. All very natural. No doubt he had some serious experience riding them. He said he had the 250R three wheeler, and had ridden many 200X's. He couldn't get over the original condition of the bike. It was cool to see someone get it that knew what it was and really appreciates it. | ||

By the way, the three wheelers were very unsafe in the wrong hands. I had seen it many times back in the day in Northern Pa. The "I can ride anything" macho attitude was the demise of many un-prepaired untrained riders. I called a couple ambulances, and toted a few to emergency rooms myself. The guys I rode with though, were quite good. We all started with 90's or 110's though. After a few years of some serious riding I could easily stand it up and wheelie though the gears. I could steer it around corners in a wheelie. My personal best was a wheelie of over three miles on an abandoned railroad bed. In '86 I bought a new 350X. I had moved to Florida. I used to drag race guys on the then new 250R four wheeler on sand. I would beat them in a 1/8 mile by about six bike lengths. Doing it sitting on the seat in a wheelie through the gears, they would usually get me by one length. I won several bets based on the 'fact' that you could not do donuts on pavement with a three wheeler. The back of my helmet was always scratched up from hitting the under the bottom of the bars, as I put both feet on the inside peg and pinned the throttle. It took considerable 'body english', but it could be done. Oddly enough I never got hurt in four years of riding, racing, stunting, trail riding, hill climbs, and what ever they said couldn't be done with it. I flipped and tumbled on many occasions. Guess I was lucky on them. On dirt bikes, it was a different story. Gravity sucks. |
