Put the player in your jacket or in your shirt or in a small fanny pack. Works like a charm for me.

Destroyed a CD?!? You mean something physically touched the CD inside? That's wacky - normally the laser should be mounted such that it can't bounce all the way against the CD! ;-0

Major design flaw, methinks. Skipping is OK, but it should NOT destroy a CD!

You're right, though, on the Blast I don't need music. Plus, I have to listen for errant cabbies trying to kill me. ;-)

yup destroyed track 4 of the Incubus Make Yourself CD. the rest is fine but I like track 4. Strangly I can copy the CD fine on a computer I just can't listen to the original cd on any player other than a computer. Anyone who can spend enough time on a Blast to get lost enough to need a GPS has "Buns of Steel" my rear wouldn't put up with that kind of abuse.

Well put. ;-)

I only ride around downtown, so as long as I can see the Sears Tower, I know how to get home. No need for "buns of steel" . . .

Boy, this list is slow . . . nobody here? ;-0

Just found out a local fellow car enthusiast loves the Honda Ascot 500, and was seriously looking at Blasts but could not find one cheaply enough. Maybe I'll finally have a local person that also likes thumpers?!?

Crossroads has got several add on items for the Blast. I own a 2002 grape juice and am thinking about some options (new bars etc). Can anyone recommend some optional items that have inhanced their machine. I hear they are coming out with a 17 inch wheel.

Thanks

97 miles today on the Blast. 66 mpg. Getting colder out there...

I got a chance to ride a "new" Royal Enfield 500 Bullet thanks to a chance meeting with Mark Apland of "Thumperstuff". He had it in his shop where he has loads of parts for several Thumpers, including a Kerker pipe for the Blast.

The R Enfield definitely is from another era. It was fun to putt around on and, when broken in, would be fun as a back road scoot.

Heading back home, I couldn't help but be glad for great brakes and a smoother ride. Sure, it's all relative, but the stock Blast is a most capable machine. And still a kick to ride.

My Blast is getting better every day. Its hard to imagine these machines are not getting more attention. They are superior to most bikes on the market for the money.

It's cold up here, but I'm starting to go into severe Blast withdrawal. I'm desparate for an unseasonal freakish southerly wind.

It's great to hear about the big bore kit and words like 50hp getting tossed around.

Freezing my butt off here in the NorthEast. 50-60 miles in 30 degree weather last night on some back roads in BFE, NJ. Is it just me or does this bike run better the colder it gets? 70+ mph with some sections to 90+, and the bike seemed to pull relatively hard and felt like it had a lot left. could just be I was so cold I was laying on the tank, so better aeordynamics? Waiting on a couple of checks for some free-lance work, then most likely ordering the Nallin kit, btw. And after last night, I wonder what it would take to mount a half fairing on this thing?

Phillyblast,

My Blast also seems to like cold air alot. I live in Vermont and I'm hoping that it warms up later in the week. The jet stream is just screwing us over here in the NE. How do you dress for 30 deg riding?

More silly Blastage...

My Blast has the handlebars from some other Buell - maybe an M2? They're a bit lower. When the dealer swapped the motor and the clutch cable, they lost the upper little cable routing thingy. Instead of replacing it, they let the clutch cable flap in the breeze. Its position prevented the steering from being locked.

When they went to 'fix' it, they routed the cable in front of the bike so it bacame an ugly appendage and simply zip-tied it despite my explicit WRITTEN (maybe that was the problem) explanation of what I'd like done - which was to have the cable routed EXACTLY as stock. Note: This dealer had put these handlebars on using the STOCK cable routing. Now they were claiming that wouldn't work.

After the motor with the proper serial number was put in, I started noticing a leanness I'd never felt in my bike. I started checking the rubber intake boot but it looked tight enough. I finally found that the bolt holding the airbox bracket to the case on the left side was missing - likely not tightened.

While investigating this sillyness, I found a missing case bolt. Odd... The dealer likely had no reason to mess with the motor. Turns out that the factory probably left off a case through bolt - the one that sits next to the oil filter.

SOOOO.... Given the shoddy nature of the work being performed, I simply asked for the airbox bolt, the case nut / bolt, and the cable thingy. I said I'd MUCH rather do it myself - for the principle of the damned thing. Well, the owner of the dealership decided to either ignore my request or just to give it ONE LAST TRY and he put on the missing fasteners and re-routed the cable in the stock location using a (now defective) stock cable thingy. Leanness gone. Funny - the clutch cable seems to work great in the stock location - except that they clucked up the eye while removing it from another Blast.

I'm not trying to sound like a nit picky cry baby annoying son of a bitch - although it's likely far too late for that. I'm merely trying to instill a VERY important concept here: FIX YOUR OWN BIKE - EVEN IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW. Dealer mechanics don't know and/or care about the Blast. As a Blast rider, a lowley, wimpy, sissy, 'unworthy of a real bike' Blast rider, you don't deserve their full attention.

I agree Saro. I shudder at the thought of my bike falling into the hands of a dealer mech.

It behooves everyone to ride Blasts until we are an inescapable and relentless storm overtaking the earth. They will learn the futility of their resistance.

Buellzilla-
Here's what I wore: Insulated boots with wool socks, jeans, couple of layers up top (should have had a turtleneck of better yet, a baclava). Joe Rocket pants and jacket, winter gauntlet gloves (my bros old hd ones). Gotta get better gloves.
Could have been warmer. Wasn't planning on being out so late, sun went down and it got cooolllldd.
Saro,
i guess that's why so many people call them "stealerships"?

Of course the Blast likes cold air blasting on the cylinder. Wouldn't you, after exercising, prefer a cold glass of water to a lukewarm one?

Cold weather riding: Phillyblast has about everything one needs except perhaps for an electric vest. Joe Rocket is good stuff, as is FirstGear and others. But decent gloves are vital.

Fairing? I'm sure happy with the Blast windshield the Buell tech put on after my February 18 tumble. It really lets me put more miles on the Blast with much less fatigue.

Dealers? Sarodude - get a new Buell dealer if at all possible. You're stuck with some losers who don't give a rip. What a nightmare!

hey those of you lookng for Gloves needn't look just at expensive motorcycle gloves. Try looking at almost as expensive Snoboarding gloves (not ski gloves) Snowboarders are known to drag their hands and gerally destroy cheaply made gloves. I have a set of Snowboard specific gloves that I bought 10 years ago that are still good for both their intended use and the double as my winter gloves (when I venture into locations that have seasons...gonna be in Japan next week 48degrees....brrrrrrrrr)

Saro: There are some very good dealerships out there. I'm sorry about your unfortunate experience. Your perseverence paid off though right? The next guy with the same problem will certainly benefit. I have found that a positive attitude and my personal interaction with my mechanic can go a long way to a happy relationship. I know; we shouldn't have to take such pains to get good service, but until the droves of HD mechanics are on board and up to speed with Buell service, we don't always have a choice.

Thanks Tavs for the info. I'll run it by the dude. If I don't get back try a run on Ebay. I see a lot of bikes selling on the auction. If you need help on proceedure let me know I can give you some tips. I sell stuff on ebay all the time.

As far as the dealers go. I own several Harleys and my 2002 grape juice (which is one of my favorite machines). Its not they don't respect Blasts or Blast owners its they do this kinda shitty work on even the $25000 rigs. My bud owns a Harley chop shop that does quality work. I needed warrenty work on my 2001 FLHT. Instead of going to the dealer and having it done under warrenty I elected to pay out of pocket to know it was done right. You are taking a big chance when you take your bike to the dealers for work. They will round off nuts and bolts, torque wrong or not torque at all, scratch chrome, leave parts off etc. They have car mechanics in the back that do the excess work. These often are pimple faced kids that detail and wrench when things get busy. I advise finding a mechanic you can trust. Kinda like finding the right doctor. Also, buy the shop manual (so its 50.00) and learning as much as you can about your machine.

This is a sore subject with me.

Woke up Friday morning 6:00 a.m. Sun was shinning and there was a heavy frost. Good day for a morning ride. Picked a town on the map that I had never been to before and said that's where I'm going. Boarded the Blast at 7:00 a.m. gassed up and headed north. It was 36 degrees when I left. 80 miles later, stopped for some gas and to warm up.(It's nice to feel your fingers) Started back out and found some new views of a place I've seen a hundered times. Sun was shinning and the bike was running strong and there wasn't much traffic. Me, very happy. Turned east for a little while then back south. Lots of south-west wind. The right side of me felt like it was 10 degrees cooler. Beautiful scenery, no traffic. Me, very happy. Stopped for some gas and a McMuffin. Headed for home and a nice WARM shower. Arrived home 200 miles later to greet my babe of a wife at 11:45 a.m. with a huge grin on my face. Me, very happy. Took a nice long shower and then went to sign my life away with my master's thesis proposal. Me, still sorta happy.

Saturday morning
Woke up a bit later, went to work out and get some breakfast with my babe of a wife and her cousin. Left breakfast at noon and headed west. Temp was mid 40's and climbing. Me, very happy. Rode through some nice farm country and some nice small towns. Tried to reach the end of the road, but darkness and temperature thwarted my attempt and I had to turn around. 180 miles. Me, still very happy because I will return to finish that road someday. Party at my old roomates new house Saturday night. Me, very happy. :)

Sunday
Day of rest with my babe of a wife. Me, very very happy. :)

Monday
Wake up and it's like a carbon copy of the past 3 days. Went to work out and had some lunch. Only 80 miles from 5000 miles on the odometer of the Blast. Wouldn't it be cool to do that in about an hour, I said to myself. Fire up the bike and head west on the interstate. Getting that average speed up to about 75 mph. Wind is very strong, but not much traffic. Tuck into the tank a few times for some speed runs, pretending to be on the salt flats.:) 45 miles down 35 to go, there's an exit. Turn off and head straight east. Get the speed up to about 80 mph for quite awhile, then run into a whole bunch of law enforcement officers huddled on the side of the road. Slow down and drive past. A few miles later a LEO sneaks up on me. I move over and he drives past. Me, very happy. Hit 5000 on the odo doing 70 mph. Head for home.

On the way home I have an iteresting time with stop lights and wheelies. Well only one surprise wheely. Been trying to practice my take offs from red light lately.(dreams of being a drag-racer I guess) Get the engine revs up a bit, and I decide I'm going to go for it. Let the clutch out faster than I have before, and whola to my surprise the front wheel lifted. No more than a half an inch at my best guess but nonetheless an actually wheelie. Kind of scared myself, but kind of impressed myself too. :) Me, very happy.

Made it home, did a small burnout on the sidewalk to commemerate my first 5000 miles and my first wheely. Me, very happy.

Friday: 200 miles
Satruday: 180 Miles
Monday: 95 miles
Tuesday: Reality

Just wanted to share a good weekend. :)

A note to the cold weather riders out there. Go to your local snowmobile shop and buy a pair of "Hot Hands". They are like a large mitt that goes over the ends of the handlebar. They keep the wind off your hand quite nicely. You will have a problem, if you have bar end mirrors, or if the mirrors screw into the handlebar control. Any one who sews can make these work in either of the above cases. "Hot Hands" are quite cheap. I bought mine for $17.95 (I think)several years ago. I used to ride 39 miles one way to work. I live in Maine. I ride til the temp drops to 15 degrees, or until they sand the roads.

Well, it has been a whole lot warmer here in Wyo than it should be for November. And so went out for about a 30 mile ride today. Reminded me exactly why I bought this thing. Relaxing, comfortable, cheap fun.

Thinking I may get a windscreen though.

I bought my Blast with 300 miles on it from a guy whose wife decided she didn't really want to ride after all. At the 1000 mile interval, I went to change oil and filter (no problem) and then to change primary oil, adjust clutch and primary chain. It took me an hour to get the foot peg support bracket off! Plus skinned knuckles. The studs are too long for nylon lock nuts. With tools on hand in my garage, I had to use open end wrenches at about 1/8 turn per push. That's B.S. The solution is a simple modification that will allow you to remove the clutch covers torx bolts and access the clutch adjustment. Drill two holes in the foot peg support bracket, one over the 9:00 o'clock torz bolt and one centered over the clutch adjustment screw. With a little ingenuity and a set of torx tips for an electric screwdriver, you can access the other torx screws. With the holes drilled ( I went 9/16 inch) you can pull the cover and adjust the clutch and drain and re-fill the primary in about 15 minutes. I sent a picture and info to Buell Engineering, but no response. My local shop charges $65/hr labor, maybe they want to keep the charges up. They's probably hate to charge ojnly $16.25 for the service.
