I have a JC Whitney Fairing For Sale. BRAND NEW, never mounted. I bought it to put on my Blast, but it's now for sale. Looking to re-coup the $$$ I paid for it. Here's a link to the local ad: http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/mcy/41549602.html Thanks Kaveman (Message edited by Kaveman on September 13, 2004) |

Hello, I'm considering a Blast as my first bike. My local dealer has a few of them, 2002 and 2003 models. Is there any major difference between these two model years? Should I pick one over the other? Thanks. JQ |

I dont believe there are any major differences except a few bearing changes.I think price & colour would more influence my decision between those two,but all things being the same, I would choose the newer model. |

Are you over filling it? Check the oil when its warmed up? Is the crankcase breather open? |

It will spit out a bunch of oil if the umbrella vent valve is not seated properly, especially if its all highspeed/rpm riding - such as a freeway or highway - you air box becomes your catch can - better that than having it shoot oil constantly into your carb - pop open your airbox and turn that spigot a 100 deg. downward from pointing into the throat of the carb. Also, are you using 20w-50 oil? More than likely it is just sucking it out of the PVC breather that is pointed directly into the carb mouth (as EZ stated). Blasts tend to do this when run at continuous high rpms.Either turn it downward or eliminate it completely. But do be sure you are checking the oil correctly, as Swampy stated, because the manuals have been known to have misprints on oil checking procedures. Keep us posted! |

In regard to the theory that the oil is being sucked out the pvc breather into the carb.... The problem should be theoretically worse if the air filter is clogged, and less severe when the filter is new or when using a high flow filter. Is my thinking correct? If so, simply switching to a K&N OEM replacement might alliviate the condition without eliminating the positive environmental benifits of the PVC breather. |

I personally think wiping oil out of the inside of my airbox (when I had one) is still enviromentally friendly and doesn't risk gunking up the carb. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be more environmentally friendly? I mean, instead of burning the oil you're just wiping it out... I could be mistaken, but it just seems better to discard any puked oil, rather than feed it into your cylinder to be burned with the fuel. A quick update to the folks who wished me well and all that... Just talked to the insurance company. Apparently, if there isn't a claim, the accident doesn't get entered in their computers, so it never happened as far as Progressive is concerned. Unless the rep was misinformed, in which case I'll be unhappy next May. Otherwise, that's really really cool. Just made the Blast street legal (installed the mirrors, lol...) and will be riding again in a few hours. Nothing like a commute for testing. Or something like that. lol... I'm pretty much okay, the dizziness is over, just waiting until my girlfriend can lean on my right side without me wincing again (bruised a couple ribs, I think...) Everything else is great, and no real downtime (couple weeks beats three months any day!) So, to everyone, keep the rubber side DOWN! Down, I said! (The lesson I'm learning, slowly but surely. lol...) |

LOL - I'm sure I can get the Fairing to fit a Blast - that is easy as projects go. The plans for Scotts tail section for his Blast on the other hand will be origional and tight - something I saw done to an X1 with a twist - lol - may do something simular to my black when all is said and done - definately a tighter look though. Heres the link - I'll be posting it in the thumper links section soon enough though - lol http://www.ricepaddymotorcycles.com/side.html Had a great day of wrenching and planning with a friend - we'll definately have some custom Blasts come the next SLO ride! For some great visual ideas check both our and the regular BW picture sections, and spend some time reading the different sections - especially the Thumper KV - and if your looking at different ideas - check out the Links to stuff you can't find here section of the TKV - I'm always editing it and adding new links - don't let the date tag fool ya, instead check the last time edited tag at the bottom of the post and you'll see what I mean - Welcome and enjoy! Here's a general question-- For those who have ordered a locking gas cap (the one for the M2 that fits the Blast), did yours come with a key? Because mine didn't. I ordered one, picked it up yesterday, opened it later and... no key. Locking gas cap that I can't even use, as it's locked. lol... Sooooooo... Was I also supposed to order a key for the gas cap? What's the part #, if so? Any info would be great. TIA... (Message edited by newblaster on September 23, 2004) |
